She enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables and canning the vegetables out of her garden. Look for a book called "A Genealogy of the descendants of John May, who came from England to Roxbury in America 1640"
Published 1878 by Franklin Press.
This family married into my Brewer family. Descendants of Daniel and Joanna Brewer. (Many books on this bunch.)
If you are speaking of this family your are probably kin to half of America--as I am.

May Family

I'm searching for information on the family of William MAY (b abt 1861 in Kentucky), his wife Ellen (b abt 1860, KY). They married about 1880, according to census records, and had six children, all of whom were born in Kentucky: Willis (b 1883), Mamie Pearl (b 1884), Robert (b 1888), James (b 1890), John (b 1892), and Roland (b 1896).
William's family was from Virginia. Ellen's were from Kentucky.
In 1900 the family was living in Torrent, Wolfe County. Over the next several years, the family, or at least parts of it, moved to Wisconsin. Willis was in Langlade County, Wisconsin, in 1902. Mamie married Thomas COMBS in Kentucky, and they moved to Wisconsin some time between 1903 and 1908. William, Ellen, and Roland moved to Wisconsin sometime between 1900 and 1917. I don't know whether Robert, James, or John stayed in Kentucky or moved to Wisconsin or elsewhere.
Any information anyone has on this family would be very much appreciated!

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Pearl Harbor. In his later years he enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening and had acquired several collectible cars. Betty, I know that you have been searching for Effie Brewer Trent for some time. I must clarify issues concerning my earlier post. My interest was in the Trent family when I assembled data on Raleigh Trent, and my source was a member of the Trent family. The data (name, dates, places) given to me by one of Raleigh’s grandchildren indicating that Effie was the daughter of Howell Brewer and Mollie Spence fits exceptionally well. However, if you do not already know, you should be aware than there is also evidence pointing toward another Effie Brewer-Little. A number of sources suggest Raleigh’s wife is the daughter of Sarah Ellen Brewer who is the daughter of Jeremiah and Louisa (Eliza) Lawson Brewer. That research effort says that this Effie Brewer/ Little is the daughter of Sarah Ellen and an unknown Little. Sarah Ellen Brewer later married Jesse Dunn. Someone pointed out that Una and Irene are missing from the 1930 enumeration of Raleigh Trent. That particular census supports the latter theory because Una and Irene are listed with Ellen under the name “ Dunn” and as granddaughters:

Jude Centers, in her book, refers to this Effie as Effie Little Trent. Ms. Centers said that Effie “died at a young age of lung cancer...and...her mother, Ellen Brewer Dunn, reared Effie’s daughters.” I believe I have seen either Una or Irene’s death certificate and it lists their mother as a Brewer and father as a Trent. Therefore, the genealogy surrounding Raleigh and Effie is a bit muddled. However, since Ellen Dunn raised these girls and designated them as granddaughters tilts this strongly toward the Jeremiah Brewer connection rather than the Howell Brewer connection. There exists lots of Brewer family research, perhaps someone has looked at this issue more closely and can provide more useful information to you.
I do not know Effie’s death date. I think Raleigh later married the widow Martha Collins Combs between 1925 and 1930.

Mrs. Banks was a 40-year member of the Christian Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church. Verna, (known as Mamaw) was a homemaker and stay home mother who started working after her youngest child started first grade. She retired from Middletown City Schools System after 20 years of service. She loved being around her family, cooking, telling stories and traveling. We believe that she is in heaven and that we will see her again someday. Porter Ray Brewer, 67 of Bainbridge, OH formerly of Dayton, OH died August 30, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born January 26, 1942 in Wolfe County, KY the son of the late Curt and Sarah Belle (Taylor) Brewer. He is survived by 3 children, Kenneth (Tari) Brewer and Lisa LaRosa both of Beavercreek, OH and Jennifer (Kurt) Cypher of Dayton, OH; 5 grandchildren, David and Daniel LaRosa, Emily and Kelsey Cypher and Kenny Ray Brewer, Jr.; 2 brothers, Kenneth Brewer of Bainbridge and E.C. Brewer of Campton, KY and 3 sisters, Gertrude Taulbee and Carmie Moore both of Dayton and Mary Gram of Campton, KY. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Larry "Goose" Dunn, age 63, of Carlisle, OH passed away August 26, 2009 at Southview Hospital. He was born April 10, 1946 in Wolfe County, KY to Melvin Robert and Amanda Jane (Spencer) Dunn. He was a truck driver for ABF Freight Systems for 12 years, retiring in 2000. Larry was a member of Teamsters Local Union #957; avid corn hole player, fisherman and huge Dale Earnhardt fan. He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin R. Dunn. Larry is survived by his wife of 18 years, Glenna F. Dunn; mother Amanda J. (Dean) Myers of Middletown, OH; daughter Bonnie (Chris) Scheper of New Miami, OH; sons Randall (Kelly) Dunn of Carlisle and Brian Dunn of Middletown; step-daughters Barbara (John ) Meyers of Middletown and Lisa (Billy) Barnes of Tazewell, TN; step-sons Robert (Doreen) Morris, Jr. of Camden, TN and George Morris of Carlisle; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Ronald (Kathy) Dunn and Donald Dunn both of Middletown, Danny (Jean) Dunn of Hillsboro, OH; sister Pat Bannon of Middletown. Hey Wanda--Look here what I just noted:

a different Delilah Spencer (1878) also married a Martin!!
She married William C Martin. They had a son named Cecil who married Mamie Rose (1818)??

Another note about Aunt Sadie's wedding..Homer Spencer was also in attendance. Homer, like Nola was child of Jasper who married Pearl Martin.

Jasper and Pearl's children:
Victor, Vernon, Ray, Homer, Clay, Thelma, and Nola.

Hello Pam. My mother's name was Velma. She was the 7th child of Perry Brewer, s/o DBoone and Fannie. She was born there in Wolfe County.
Perry married Alba McKenzie, s/o Charles and Maggie Spencer. Alba was raised by Jasper Spencer who married Laura Ingram.
My search has been long and heart felt, but I have finally got living relatives!! (Other than my own kids...)
Why do we spend so much time on the dead?!
Could it be WE CARE??!!

Alba and Perry's daughter was raised by Cyntha Spencer, who married Alek Scott. She was d/o Jasper and Laura Ingram. This same daughter then married Ray Spencer, s/o Jasper.

After Perry's death in 1936 Alba remarries to Russell Phipps, s/o Ely Phipps who married Cyntha's sister Alice Spencer.

Joseph Spencer s/o Jasper and Laura married Ida Ingram, a relative of Laura.

Jeremiah Brewer, s/o Thomas married Louise Lawson-well documented.

Related to Lowery through Fitzpatrick. Walter Estill Lowery married Minnie Logan Fitzpatrick. Place and date not known. Walter was a preacher, and helped start the Maysville Campground. He had a church in Greenup at one time in the late 30's.

My Brewer's are from Wolfe/Breathitt around Holly Creek and Frozen.

Have you ANY info on even one of these folks? How they knew each other or better yet--photos?! I am a dreamer!!

they are posted at Ky digital photos. they photographer says that the people in the photos are "Arky" Brewer and husband George. there are children in the photos. Dr Jones is riding upon a horse in one, and posing in a duster coat in another.

Hello Wanda. Hope you are well today. I've been working on my Spencer/Martin/McKenzie/Sparks bunch today. Just like the Brewer's they named each other "same as".
I don't know why ancestry has to charge...sometimes I hate this machine as much as I love it!!:)
I thought the Hatton's were well documented. Seems like I have read an awful lot on them. Sorry I can't help. Next time I see something I will keep you in mind.

Hello dear Wanda. Yes, I go to your MYFamily space at least once a week. I do not have access to all the areas. When I try to tab into some places I get an invite to join for a fee. So I just read all the news and look at pictures and comment once in a while. Like you, I have kids still hanging out around the house, and I'm waiting on my SS to go through since I am unable to work.
Too bad your book is on hold. I want to read it!!!
I have seen that Gosney name somewhere--were they related to Spencer's or McKenzie's from over around Rowan/Powell?

Hi, Saw the post about Campbells. My grandfather was Grover Cleveland Campbell (Anne Bailey) 1884-1970, lived in Menifee Co. His father was James Campbell (Mary Elizabeth Brown). James' father was Jasper (possible William, not sure) who married Margaet Coldiron, daughter of Rebecca Coldiron; Jasper & Margaret married in Lee County, Va. in 1854. Jasper was listed as William J. Campbell with his father listed as E. Campbell. I cannot find E. anywhere, but the family always referred to him as Jake Campbell. Know anything about these Campbells. Jake's wife was Elizabeth ? My 3X grandfather, William Jasper Campbell, born 1836 in Lee County Virginia to Jake and Elizabeth Campbell. William and Elizabeth are buried in Evans Cemetery in Wolfe Co. William died in 1809. I am trying to find his parents, Jake and Elizabeth, and am running into a brick wall. I know they were in Viginia in 1936 and William was in Va. in 1854 when he married Margarita (Margaret) Coldiron. Anyone know these people. Any info greatly appreciated. Hi, Jefferson Davis Vancleave (son of Andrew Vancleve and Minnie Woods), and Catherine King are my gggrandparents. Their daughter Cora Bell is my ggrandmother and she was married in Morgan Co. in 1900 to Wayne Smith son of Jane Bush and Lee Smith. Wayne was killed in 1929 in Bourbon co Ky when run over by a train. I found his death certificate which gave me his parents Jane Bush, VA and Lee Smith. I also found a Lizzie Price who may be Wayne's sister as same names are listed on her death certificate. I can get no further on Jane and Lee and would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who might have any of these same names listed.

Everyone wanted to read my stories, so I put them on there, so they could without my having to type them out so many times. and-my memory isn't what it used to be, ~g~. that's why I refer people to my web site to read them, so they get the original version.
I'm still trying to find Sally Hatton, my g-grandmother and also my g-g-grandmother. Can't find her before she was with Isom and after Isom md. Sally Simpkins, who lived on the next farm.

Effie M. Brewer, born 1896, married Raleigh Trent in 1909 in Breathitt County at the age of 14. She is the daughter of Howell and Mollie Brewer. I think most of Howell's family lived in Owsley County, but it seems that Effie's family lived at least briefly in Wolfe County. The 1910 Madison County, KY census:
Hal C. Brewer 38
Mollie Brewer 36
Effie M. Brewer 13

I'm not aware that Effie was ever called Eppie, could be an error in transcription.

The statement that “George W. Brewer married Lula Mae Stevens” may be based on the early research of my wife and I when we identified George Brewer’s wife as a “Stevens” based upon family oral history. Later research shows her surname to be “Stephens”. Her parents are William Stephens and Lucy Osborne. Some researchers suggest that Lucy’s name was “Lucille”, but all public records show “Lucy”. William Stephens’ parents are George Stephens and Susan Blevins. While there is an abundance of George Washington Brewers, I haven’t been able to confirm this particular George Brewer’s middle name to be Washington.
