Mrs. Emma Williams Dies Here Tuesday At Home Of Daughter
d 6 Apr 1941

Mrs. Emma Williams, 92, died Tuesday morning at 11:45 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.J. Miedreich, wife of the Mayor of Providence, on South Broadway. She had been confined to her room for the past six months.
The deceased was born in Madisonville, the eldest of seven children of Joe and Jane Thomas. The other six preceded her in death. At the age of twenty-one, she was married to H. Burl Williams of near Providence. After his death fifteen years ago, she came to Providence to make her home with her daughter where she lived during the remainder of her days. She was a devout member of the local Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Williams was a person of remarkable characteristics. Being a devoted mother, unselfishness was a major trait. In a quiet and unassuming way she lived her life for her home and family. She will be greatly missed by members of her family and her many friends in whom her interests were centered.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. C.J. Miedreich of Providence, Mrs. Samuel Gugenheim and Miss Nell Williams of Marion and Mrs. H.K. Ferguson of Miami, Fla.; three sons, Kenneth B. Williams of Providence, rural route, Clarence L. Williams of Athens, Tenn. and Heyward Williams of Shelbyville, Ky.; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at the residence with the Rev. A.R. Poole, Cumberland Presbyterian minister, in charge.
Pallbearers were C.W. Williams of Evansville, Ind., Samuel Gugenheim of Marion, Douglas Williams of Madisonville, Owen Thomas of White Plains, Burl Letzinger of Louisville, Joe Thomas and H.A. Boyd of Providence.
Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.
