I'm looking for a Sallie White, born in Wayne but married in Pulaski to George Bryan Stigall. The marriage records there list her and her parents as being born in Wayne. She would have been born in 1860 (maybe after June?) or 1861. The 1880 census shows her being 19 years old and it was conducted in June of that year. Her husband George Stigall was 10 years older. My aunt sent me an email with this note that may help:"Somehow I have a letter from E. Simpson to Nancy Newell dated Monticello, Ky, June 10, 1966. In which he references doing research on her grandmother. He says :”I went over to the courthouse to do research on your grandmother. I found a marriage license, October 6, 1878. I figured you grandparents were married about the same time as my mother’s parents did. George B. Stigall, second marriage , age 28, and Sally White, age 17. This is in Marriage Book 133, if you want to check it. On the opposite page is notice of a marriage bond of $100 given by George B. Stigall….it might have been that a bond was necessary because she was so young or because she was an orphan and somebody was responsible for her. Under the George B. Stigall is another name, Owen. Do you suppose this was a guardian?” Once you know the marriage book, it does not take long to find. The page number is 147…""
What on earth would the reason be for a marriage bond?
Thank you, Barry
