I am interested in the Huckabys of Wayne County. My great-grandmother was Myrtle Huckaby m. Willie Burgess. My grandfather remembers her parents as Frank Huckaby and Mary Ann "Polly" Marcum, d/o (James) Arthur Marcum and Elizabeth Boston. Somehow, I also have a Ransom Huckaby and Sylvester Huckaby as father and grandfather of Frank, although I think that Ransom and Sylvester were probably brothers. Others have suggested Myrtie's parents as Thomas Huckaby and Mary J. LNU. I looked through the 1850 census hoping to find a Huckaby/Hucaby family with Ransom or Sylvester as children. I found no Huckaby at all. In the 1860 index there is an entry for Ransom which disappears in 1870. Did the Huckaby family not appear until after 1850? Do the surnames Huckaby and Hucaby refer to the same family (Hucaby seems to be very rare)? Does anyone know for sure that Huckabys were in the county in 1850.
