I'm also a descendant of Sylvester (through his son Barton), and I've got that Sylvester's parents were Thomas Huckaby and Nancy, whose last name was possibly Rednour. Thomas was born about 1785 in Fentress County, TN and died there in 1854. You can find him on the 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses. You can find Sylvester in that family on the 1850 census.

I'm currently trying to determine the identities of Sylvester's mother-in-law's parents but have not had any luck so far.
