Re: Need marriage date for Virginia Miles Radford and Greenley Wesley "Lee" Turner, probably about 1900 in Trigg

Hello again,

I found an obit on Lee from 1907. It was also on the Trigg site where I found the marriage dates.

TURNER, Lee Lt. - C.S.A.

August 16, 1907 "Uncle Lee" Turner Dead
Prominent Old Gentlemen of the County Passed Away Last Week
Another one of Trigg county's oldest and most highly respected citizens passed into the great beyond last week in the person of "Uncle Lee" Turner, of the Tuggleville neighborhood, who died last Friday of Bright's disease. He had been in feeble health for several months.

He was seventy five years of age and had been married twice, his last wife and a number of grown children surviving him. He also leaves a host of other relatives throughout this county to mourn his death.

Mr. Turner was also an old Confederate soldier. At the beginning of the war in 1861 he enlisted as a member of Company G, 8th Kentucky Infantry of this county and was made a sergeant. Was captured at the battle of Fort Donelson and carried to Camp Morton at Indianapolis. After remaining there for about seven months he was exchanged and in the reorganization was made a lieutenant. In 1863 he resigned his commission and returned home, and had since lived here in our county a quiet country life. He was always proud of his record as a Confederate soldier, and was always in attendance at all the county reunions and Confederate gatherings.

His remains were buried Saturday in the old Peyton Thomas burying ground on Donaldson Creek in the presence of quite a crowd of friends and loved ones

You may already have this, but I'll send it along just in case. My ggg grandfather was also captured at Fort Donelson! He was in Company G, 1st Cavalry Regiment Kentucky. My ggg grandfather was from Hancock County, Ky. His record says he was confined on 18 Feb 1862 at Camp Morton, Ind. and was part of a prisoner exchange on 15 Aug 1862 at Vicksburg, MS. He got out 2 months later. Maybe he and Lee may have known each other.
I also went to findagrave.com and found Lee's grave site in Peyton Thomas Cemetary, but unfortunatly, Virginia was not listed with him.

Jesse

I have Margaret Patsy Gill being the first wife of John S. Goode born Aug 20 1762. Second wife Elizabeth Jane Hawkins who had all but perhaps one of his children. John seems to be the son of Edward, who was the son of Edward, who was the son of Samuel, son of John, son of Richard of Whitby, son of Richard, son of Richard, son of Walter, son of William who married Dame Milicent of Cornwall, son of Walter, son of William, son of William. There are two different geneologists that have done research and wrote books and they widely disagree.

If anyone could please look up a marriage date for Greenley Wesley "Lee" Turner and Virginia Miles Radford I would appreciate it. They married about 1900. It was a 2nd marriage for both.

Lee was first married to Christina Baker.
Virginia was first married to William J. Radford.

It would be nice to know where Virginia is buried. I found what I *think* is her death cert, but it has problems so I am not sure.
I am hoping someone can help me find information on Mary Ann (Gentry) Hillman b. 1841 d. 1908. I am particularly wanting to know about her later life in Trigg County after her husband's passing. I have found a newspaper abstract that mentions a Mr. Frank Rogers who went to live with Mrs. M.A. Hillman at Trigg Furnace. Just wondering if this is the same Frank Rogers from my family? Any information on Mrs. Hillman's life in Trigg County would be greatly appreciated.

I just stumbled across this post while looking up info on the Trigg Co. Rogers families. If you are still looking for info on the decendants of Absalom Rogers then you may be interested in this link:

http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/Rogers.html

I don't know how much of the info on this list is verified. I know I found it several years ago and have found that more than a few of the dates are off by a few years, but the general information on the families seems to all be correct and is a good starting point for additional research. I know it has helped me. I am a decendant of Robert Porter's brother, William D. Rogers. William was my great-great grandfather. Absalom Rogers had so many children that I'm afraid I do not know much about the majority of them even though I have been researching the family for several years now. Hope this link helps you.

George Washington Riddle

I am looking for information about my GGGgrandfather, George Washington Riddle, who was living in the Golden Pond District of Trigg County, Kentucky when the 1870 Federal Census was taken. The census taker accidentally listed him as just George Washington, forgetting to put the Riddle surname. I feel confident that this is him because his occupation is the same as in the 1860 census of Nelson Co., Kentucky. I find his family still there in 1870. He was dead by 1876, as money came to his children back in Nelson County from his estate in Trigg County. I have no record to suggest that he and his wife were divorced, but he disappears from the tax lists of Nelson Co., Kentucky after 1864. I know that he had no family in Trigg County, but am just hoping that someone there might have something about him, a burial record, an obituary, a will?? Any help would be most appreciated. Below are some documents pertaining to George:

1860 Census of Nelson Co., Kentucky, District 2, Post Office: Nelson Furnace
Dwelling #236, Family #218
William Bowser, 24, M, W, Charcoal Burner, PA
GEORGE W. RIDDLE, 26, M, W, Charcoal Burner, PA

George does not appear on the 1860 tax list of Nelson County so he must have arrived in Nelson County after the tax taking of 1860. George married Elizabeth Jane Norris Vowels, a widow with four children, on 12 July 1860 in Nelson County.
I do have Thomas R. Robertson's parents as Samuel and Nancy (? maiden) Robertson of South Carolina. The Joiner line has been heavily researched and there are several published volumes available - but you may have already seen those. I would be very interested in sharing information and pictures with you. If you like, you can email me off-list at ysholmes@hughes.net.
Yvette, I am descended from Thomas R. Robertson and Rebecca Anne Joiner Robertson through their daughter Melinda Caroline Robertson Sumner. Do you have any information regarding the parents of Thomas or Rebecca. I have a photo of them with several of their children: Amanda, Sam, Melinda, Lou, John, Jim, Wootsie (not sure of given name). I would be happy to swap photos and information.
I learned recently from another Ancestry member that the parents of Rebecca were: Jonathan Joiner and Mary Taylor Joiner. I have nothing on Thomas. Thanks.

I am hoping someone can help me find out who I can contact to possibly find the identity of a specific unmarked grave at the Cunningham/Trigg Furnace Cemetery in Trigg, Co. KY. I've contacted local funeral homes, but they say that they do not have a plat showing grave locations for any of the older burials there. Can anyone give me any suggestions on where to look or who to get in touch with for this information? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for information on the Wring family. Right now, our line ends with Samuel H Wring(1837- May 16, 1904), married to Mary C. Springer (1) and Mary M. O'Donnel (2). Samuel and Mary M. had 12 children- Francis Marion Wring

Samuel was born in Tennessee and died in Crittenden County, Kentucky. He is buried at Tyners Chapel. I'm trying to find information on his parents, but have had little luck. My mother unearthed an obituary for Samuel's mother, who is also buried at Tyners Chapel, but she was listed as "Old Lady Wring." Her name and her husband's name were not written in the obituary. My mom and I looked for "Old Lady Wring's" grave, but could not find it.

I'm relatively sure that Samuel's parents would have been born in Tennessee, but I have know idea if his father died there or if his father died in Kentucky like his wife and son.

If you have any information, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share it with me!!!!!!

I show Hughes W FLORA married Amanda Turner in Trigg CO, KY on 11 Dec 1855. From the 1860 census Hughes W Flora, 24 yrs old, would have been about 19 yrs old at the time of his marriage and according to the law needed parental or a guardian's permission to marry. His parents must have been deceased as my great grandfather Elisha Crass was appointed as Hughes W Flora's guardian by Trigg CO courts on Hughes W Flora's wedding day and presumably gave the required permission for him to marry. If you would like my sources for this information email me directly at smcpeach@earthlink.net
Sincerely,
Sharon Peach

I'm trying to track down information on my great-grandfather, W. O. Butler who married Nancy Shadow or maybe Shadowrn in Trigg county. I've found them in the 1880 census and also a Trigg Cty marriage record. I'd like to find the source of the marriage information posted on the TRIGG COUNTY KY HISTORY & GENEALOGY page. Some of the information there differs from what I'm finding.

Thanks Debbie,

Yes that helps as I didn't have Willaim Doss's children. Of course answering one question in genealogy brings up other questions. If you have or can get Eunie's info I would appreciate it. My reason is I had a cousin on my Cothran side that m a Morgan and a great aunt on my Colson side that m a Morgan. The Morgan's were cousins. I'm wondering if Eunie m a brother to one of them?

Thanks again,

Glenn

Looking for information about Mary F Longmire and George W Skinner. They were married in Trigg co 18 Aug, 1858, and are listed on the 1860 census. In 1860, there were two Longmire sons, R H Longmire and J S Longmire (Richard Henry and James), ages 12 and 8, respectively. So Mary was married to a Longmire within 6 years or so of her second marriage to G W Skinner, but I cannot find any information about the Longmire husband. According to family bible records, his name was Robert, but that is the only clue I have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Travis Russell
