Jesse Offutt; City Marshal

Hello,

Hoping that someone can help me out. I have come across two newspaper articles printed in August of 1884. One has dateline of Louisville, KY that states a dispatch from Frankfort, KY to the Courier-Journal says Town Marshall Jesse Offutt was shot and killed by Henry Taylor.

The second article reads Jesse Offutt, City Marshal of Franklin, KY was shot and instantly killed on the 19th of August while in the discharge of his duty by Henry Taylor.

I would like to first determine if this happened in Franklin, and secondly if it did who this Jesse Offutt was.

Any help would be appreciated.
Dave O.

If I remember correctly it was March of 1984. Her birthdate was February 14. Her son, my father, is Robert Utley, who lives in Nebo KY.

Don't think it could be same Vivian though as Utley was her married name.

Yes, my John was married to Jennie. Thomas Jr. had a daughter named Anna and she married a Joseph Travelstead(Street). They are listed in the 1880 Census of Robertson Co., TN. Joseph Street is listed at the end of the McClanahan's names. Rosette and Tricey(Trixie)are Anna grandchildren, I think.

If you ever find that Bible, please let me know. A booklet written on the family says that it burned. I am also a descendant of Samuel and his wife. I want to know the wife's name. It was allegedly "Lucy" and many think that her maiden name was Hampton. I descend from their son Wade Hampton McFadin who married Elizabeth Ann Hampton, the daughter of Benjamin Hampton and Ruth DeWalt.

Hello:

I located your family tree on Ancestry and note that you have two men with that same name. One born in 1876 and the other born in 1914. You do not show either one with a wife Martha, so I do did know which man you are talking about.

However, I did locate an obit for the Lyman Rife (1876-1951). His obits mentions his wife Martha Myes and gives their marriage date and place. Do you already have this information?

http://search.ancestry.com/browse/view.aspx?dbid=6776&ii...

Also, I could not see any connection to Simpson County, Kentucky. Do you believe that Martha came from that county?

Sharon

OBIT Rose Edna Uhls Gelvin-Rose 1922-2011

NOTE: I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS INDIVIDUAL. JUST POSTING THE OBITUARY ON ROSE GELVIN-ROSE FROM THE DAYTON (OH) DAILY NEWS 2/27/11

Rose Edna Uhls Gelvin-Rose, age 88, of Dayton, OH went home to be with the Lord sometime in the early morning hours of February 21, 2011 following an extended illness at home. She was born March 20, 1922 in Franklin KY, to the late John Abraham and Ruth Lee Uhls. She was preceded in death by her husband Everette H. Rose, her husband Troy D.Gelvin, her brothers Roscoe Uhls, Edward Uhls, Walter Lee, Haskell Uhls, and Richard B. Uhls, her sisters Novice Kelly, Ruby Warren and Iva Steele. She is also preceded in death by her sons Jack Rose, Ronnie Rose, Robin Lautenburg, Randy Gelvin, Richie Gelvin, Reggie Gelvin, Toney Rose and son-in-law Larry Woolum. She is survived by her sister Mary Ann Gorham, sons Phillip Rose, Herschel Rose, Roger (Veronica) Gelvin, and Rocky Rose, her daughters Sheila (Billy) Blankenship, Brenda (Ray) Hawley, Eleanor Tudy White-Sproat, Debbie Gelvin and daughter-in-law Maxine Rose. She was also the loving grandmother of 48, great-grandmother of 68, great-great-grandmother of 17 and aunt to innumerable nieces and nephews. From one of those granddaughters,"...and she never ran out of love for any of them. Even those that were not biologically hers, she welcomed them as her own. I will never forget playing hair-do in her beauty shop, the pops she would insist we could drink, Sunday dinners where she would never sit down until everyone had seconds and the endless giving of anything and everything that she had to anyone who was in need. I am not biologically Grandma Rose's grand-daughter but will always be her Monica Rose. Long before I had ever met her, her name was with me. And her name will forever be with me until we meet again." She ran away from home at age 14 so she could be a hairdresser. She always insisted on having her beauty shop in her home so she could be there with her kids. She dressed hair for 70 years, from before daylight till after dark. She never ran out of love for ANY of those who God put in her path - from the many ailing family members who needed constant care till their last days, to the men and women who came in to her home beauty shop. She had customers whose hair she fixed for years, and as they aged, she went to their homes, their nursing homes, their hospitals, and finally to their funeral homes to fulfill their wishes for the last time. The family will be receiving friends at Parkview Church of the Nazarene at 4701 Far Hills Ave. in Dayton, for a memorial service to celebrate her life on March 26, 2011 at 10:30am. In an act of unselfish concern for all who succeed her in life, Rose donated her remains to Wright State University School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, a gift for the family made out to Brenda Hawley, to cover expenses would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot attend you can still mail a contribution to 69 Watervliet, Dayton OH 45420. Roger, Rocky and Sheila are so thankful that their sister Brenda was able to care for their mom these last years. Brenda would like to express her heartfelt love and thanks to all those who helped her care for her mom in these last years but especially in these last months to her husband Ray, daughter Brandy Woolum, nephew Jason Smith, grandchildren Lara, Larrick, Madison and Matt for their daily sacrifices made on her mother's behalf. Mom, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma and friend, you will be forever missed, never forgotten and always in our hearts.

She was born in Elmo, MO in about 1915. My name is Julie Moberg Flanagan (My Mom's name was Rosalie Heriford Moberg. I live in North Carolina now, but grew up in Nebraska. I knew Bob and Dorothy and ALL of the kids, in Winterset, Iowa. There were several. Bob Jr., Michael, Amy, Lydia, Jodie... maybe more. I haven't seen them in years. Unfortunately, my mother died at age 39 and after that, I wasn't around the Crowdes family much. The last time actually was in about 2000., around the time My beloved Grandma Ada passed away.

Here's how:

Go to an appropriate page in your family tree.

Highlight the URL address at the top of the browser page with your mouse.

Press CRTL and the letter C at the same time. (That copies the URL to Clipboard.)

Go to the place where you want to put the link, and Press CRTL and the letter V at the same time. (That pastes the item from Clipboard to the place where you want it.)

Like here.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/32554399/family

This is the link to the Sterling Perry Majors familly tree.

Anybody can just click on the link in the message and go right to your tree.

CRTL C and CRTL V have a thousand uses. You can use then in Word, Excel, your browser, etc. You can highlight/select, then copy, then paste practically anything from somewhere to somewhere else. The original stays intact.

Better than sliced bread, eh?

Maybe the nice folks at the Simpson County Archives can help you with this now.

Sharon

I then discovered that the information about Sterling in your query does not match the information in your family tree.

Are you asking about the man who was born in 1819?
I agree with the grave finder headstone. Makes complete sense. Three key factors line up for me.
#1. Ana is born in 1821
#2. Jantha is born in 1855 could be a misspelling in the census and should have been Inatha
#3 G.W. Russell is Husbad of ANA and Father of Inatha.

Thank you so much. this is my first ime using the message boards, you were very helpful.

Still following up on your infer re: Elinor Whiston and Geo W. in Gordonville

Well, I did locate the family in 1870 in Simpson County, KY. Ancestry had them misindexed as Rupell.

I also located George and Clay Russel in Simpson Co. in 1880. They were in Middletown, which is almost on the Logan County border.

Sharon

My husband is Robert Lawrence; his father - Jesse Lawrence; his father - Claud Lawrence; his mother - Alice Rhea Murphy Lawrence, Mayhew, Sympson; Her Parents - TULLY AND MARGARET RAY MURPHY. We visted Father Drury last week (had found Tully & M. gravestones last year). Can't find markers for Alice Rhea/Robert Lawrence/Robert Sympson. Have pictures showing Alice's funeral (in plot with T. & M.) in Catholic section Green Lawn, Franklin KY. Please contact me at lawrencea@info-ed.com so we can compare notes. (I haven't got past Tully & M. either). How are you related?

Thank you so much for looking that up. I really appreciate it. I know that William could not have been there long as he was in Todd County in 1830 for the census. I know that Ann was still in Simpson County in 1850, but she had married Samuel Winder by then and he had died before the census. She went to Missouri with her older children by William C. Turner. I feel sure that her children by Samuel Winder went there, too.
