Missy - thank you very much for the information. Frank was my "2nd cousin 3 times removed". My gg-grandfather, William Henry Clark of Barren county, wrote in 1905 that this branch of his aunt's family had died out. Not quite, it seems. Frank was the only male survivor of his Button family (1st cousin once removed of William Henry Clark), but went on to have a number of descendants. He and his widowed mother founded a school that would later become the university at Morehead. I found quite a bit about him on the Internet and in our local newspapers (notes concerning his visits to relatives here in Illinois), but not a mention of where he was buried. I also appreciate the information you included about his two children, who I knew little to nothing about. Robert was vaguely mentioned as dying in an index of articles published in 1905; since it was an index only, I had no details on him. I knew nothing of Helen Salome, who was apparently named for her great-grandmother, Salome Patterson Phelps.

Thanks again. If there is anything you might need from the Warren county, Illinois area, please let me know. I'd be happy to return the favor.

Hi there. This is Donna. I run Old kentucky Photos. I remember speaking to you about the phillips family. But I can't remember what was said. I think Frank Phillips married to Martha was the son of William and Mary Law Phillips. I believe his real name was James. I can look it up. His siblings where Danial Boone Phillips (married Mary F. "Mollie" Gregory) , (1) Joseph Phillips married Sarah Gregory daughter of Jesse Gregory and Elizabeth Foster Gregory, (2) James Phillips (I believe he is your frank) Virginia Phillips married Charles Wesley Forman and (3) Dora Phillips who married Taylor Gregory a sibling to both sarah and Molly William R Phillips. I am not sure who he married. I hope this helps you some. petilda at verizon dot net is my email if you would like to contact me

Ah, yes, I see what you mean. He is in the 1910 census, but I can't find him after that either.

In case you do not have the 1910 census reading, he is listed with his parents, as are four of his adult siblings:

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, precinct 1, Morehead, enumerated 10 May, lists on pp. 15A-15B as family #272/274:
Hayes, Wesley, 72, first marriage, married 55 years, b. Ky Ky Ky, farmer; Francis, wife, 74, first marriage, married 25 years (but should be 55), mother of 10 children, 10 living, b. Ky Ky Va; Drew, son, 48, single, farm hand; Nancy B., dau, 43, single; Robert, son, 37, farm hand; Louise, dau, 35, single; W. B., son, 33, single, farm hand. All sons & daus born Ky Ky Ky.

So 10 years after his marriage to Jane Sturgill, W. B. was living with his parents, and listed as single. Most likely this means they were divorced, although she might have died young.

I have not been able to find him anywhere in the 1920 or 1930 censuses, nor in the Kentucky death records (which begin in 1911.)

This most likely means that he moved out of the state and died in another state that does not have death indexing sometime between 1910 and 1920.

However, it might simply mean that he is somewhere outside Rowan Co., and badly misindexed in both 1920 and 1930 and the death index. Sometimes you will see names get very badly misread, like Hayes being indexed as Noyes or Wages or something like that, and when that happens, it is almost impossible to find someone in a search unless you know exactly where to look. I searched on Wes* and W B with any surname in Rowan Co., and got no matches, but it is impractical to do first-name only searches over a broad area.

When you say you are "looking for" him, what information is it you are looking for, that is, what are your open questions?

Since you already know his parents and his birthdate and his wife's name, I am assuming that most likely you know some other things too, so it might not be productive to respond with just anything we can find.
Thank you for the information. Yes, I know about the Fouch web site. My sister Donna Fouch Bakelaar started it all up. She has found all of the Fouch genealogy back to 1700's. You may contact her on the Fouch web pages. She has established that she is a daughter of the revolution and is now a documented member. I am sure she would be glad to see your info too. If you ever come across a Harold King that boarded in Williamson around 1924-1926, please let me know. I would like to know my maternal grandfather and probably half brothers and/or sisters before they die.

Sorry, I know nothing about Harold King or Helen Hopkins.

I have a fair amount of information about the Fouch family in Rowan Co., but I imagine you've already found most of that elsewhere.

Ted B. Fouch (30 Aug 1901 to 30 Apr 1980) was the son of Walter S. Fouch and Birdie Mae Burchett.

Walter Scott Fouch (born 28 Aug 1872 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 3 Oct 1960 in Ironton, Lawrence Co., Oh) was the son of William Monroe Fouch and Eliza Conn. He and his wife Birdie moved from Rowan Co. to Ironton about 1901.

William Monroe Fouch (5 Apr 1851 in Morgan Co., Ky, died 11 Apr 1917 in Rowan Co. Ky) was the son of William Addison Fouch and Evelyn Thomas.

William Monroe Fouch had a brother also named Walter Scott Fouch (21 Aug 1854 to 6 Nov 1912) - apparently he named his son after his brother - who married Martha Ann Cornett. They had a son named John W. Fouch (17 Jan 1877 - 23 Mar 1940) who married Lennie Pettit (30 Jan 1889 or 1890 - 3 Dec 1939), dau of John P. Pettit and Malissa Clark. That is probably where your Pettit connection comes in.

Do you know about the Fouch family web site at http://www.fouchfamily.com/ ?

My mother was born in Batavia, Ohio. Roy Elmer Fouch was born in Ironton, Ohio. My maternal grandmother Mae Hopkins was married four times and her last husband was George Hopkins. After his death, she met Harold King in Williamson, WVA. Most of the Fouch's were from Rowan, KY. I do not know where my grandmother was born My fraternal grandparents are Ted Basil Fouch and Nola Fouch who lived in West Portsmouth, Ohio until they died. However, I do not know where they were born. I believe some of them may have been born in Rowan County, KY. I do know that we are related to the Fouch's in Rowan County, KY.

If you have any information regarding Harold King or any of the other family members I would appreciate a note from you.

My sister was able to find a Harold King living in a boarding house in Williamson at the time she conceived my mother, but there was also a delivery (truck driver) who did not live in Williamson, but made regular deliveries to Williamson at the time.

We do have Pettit's in the family line!

Thank you!
Diana Fouch Worth
Titusville, FL

Diana,

You mentioned where your father Roy Elmer Fouch was born and where he met your mother, but not where your mother was born, nor where your grandmother lived at the time she knew Harold King.

Was that also in Wiliamson, W. Va? Or was it in Rowan Co., Ky?

(I assume there must be some connection to Rowan Co., since this was posted on the Rowan County message board.)

Yes, I have a lot of information on them both.

Julius Caesar Trent (1873-1957) was the son of Harvey Trent and Rena Lambert. Harvey Trent's parents were Smith Trent and Mary Cline; Rena Lambert's parents were Philip Lambert and Rebecca Morgan.

Martha Ann Black's parents were John A. Black and Martha Ann Riddle. I do not know John A. Black's parents. Martha Ann Riddle's parents were John William Riddle and Mary Adeline Myers.

Martha Ann Riddle married four times, first to William M. Day who died of typhoid fever one week after their wedding, second to John Bailey Clark who died about 1870 (4 children), third to John A. Black who died in 1899 (3 children), and fourth to Andrew J. Brown.

Martha A. Riddle and John B. Clark are my ggg grandparents, which makes your husband Raymond my half second cousin twice removed.

I also have information on the ancestry of Raymond's mother, Annie Boggs, daughter of John Boggs and Sarah Fannin. I will email you some reports.

I have heard many stories about Uncle Everett and his sons musical talents. If you would be so kind as to send me pictures and a copy of the recordings you have I would truly appreciate them and pass them along to other family members.I don't know how you could send a recording but if you would I would gladly reemburse you for anything it may cost you. May Armstrong my grandfathers sister has a daughter Katherine who lives near me and she is 85 years old now.I'm sure she would love to see anything you have. She always talks about Uncle Everett and his kids and spending lots of time at grandparents Victoria and Newton Armstrongs house.Thank you Barbara
