I got a lot of my info from the Rowan County website on the KYgenweb. Added to a census record from 1910 and just some family information from my mom. Here is what I"ve pieced together: James M. Moore was born on Feb 17,1847 probably in Tenn. He was married twice. I have yet to find his first wifes name. From his first marriage he had four children:George Sherman, Elizabeth, Willie J. and Harlee. I have some info on them. If you're interested I can send it later.
He then married Amanda Susan. I'm not sure of her maiden name. She was born March 2,1866. They had ten children.
Both James and Amanda are buried in the Moore-Messer cemetery in Rowan County.( the same place Issac and Mattie are buried.) There is a complete list of this cemetery on the same web site.
I just received James and Amanda's death certificates in the mail this week but I left them at my mom's so I'll send you that later also. It's lists their Parents names .All I can remember off hand is that James' father was named Issac and that he was born in N.C.
I would be interested in any info you have on Issac and Mattie's family (children, etc.) or on his brothers and sisters families.

I'm anxious to find the gravesite of my gggrandfather William Thatcher Hyatt/Hiatt b. 1821 Fleming Co., KY d. 1885 Waltz, Rowan Co., KY. I don't know which cemetery. His wife Lavina Jane (Hedges) Hyatt may be buried nearby. I hope someone near there can help me, or direct my search.

I understand there is a Rowan County Cemetery Survey that may have the information. I would buy it, but that's a lot of money to spend on a source that I'm not certain has the information I need. Does anyone have it, that could check if they are there? Thanks so much.

Theodore worked as a scientific photographer for 38 years at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. His greatest love was his family, with whom he enjoyed traveling, especially the many camping trips with Gladys, his children and grandchildren. Until recently, he enjoyed his long, daily walks.
Fisher, Little

I am looking for someone who is researching these two surnames in the Rowan Co. area. My great grandparents were William A. Fisher and Martha Little. Family history states that "Bill" married three times, the last being to Martha. He was also supposed to have been married to one of her sisters. I believe William's father was Alfred Fisher from Carter Co. Martha's parents were George Washington Little and Tempy Guy. If anyone would like to share/swap info, please contact me at my email or at (606) 780-4076.
My ggrandfather was Robert A. Arnold (born in Rowan Co.), married Alice Hammon(Riddle's in her line), also from Rowan
Co., KY. I know nothing about Robert's parents. Robert had a half brother named John (Arnold?) Robert and Alice had a
P.O., store, and Singer Sewing Machine shop at Crix around the turn of the century. They had the following children: Russell,
Cordia, Loula, Fred(my grandfather), Ernest, Herbert, Denny, and Herbert. Robert came up missing around 1910 (they found
his horse and wagon in town). Presuming he was dead, Alice married Thomas Sexton having the following children: Leora,
Carrie, Johnny, and Robert(adopted) Sexton.
During this time, Tom and Alice moved to Logan, Co., WV. After 33 years, Robert Arnold shows up in Rowan Co. again, at
his brother's (John)at Christy Creek, the same area from which he had left. To make a long story short, Robert went to Logan,
WV, and regained his place in Alice's household. Tom Sexton stepped aside. Where had he been? Are there any native
Arnold's still living around Morehead that might know anything about John (Arnold?) There is an Andrew Arnold
(7/27/1809-1/9/1886)buried at White Cemetery #3 on Christy Creek Road and a Sarah Arnold (1/24/1824-2/16/1916)buried
at Hogtown Cemetery in Elliottville. Could they have been the parents of Robert and John? Can anyone make a connection with
these people? Is there anyone that might know anything about the story of Robert Arnold's disappearance? Would/could it have
been in a newspaper around that time?

I am also the ggranddaughter of Edward Lambert, son of DeLaney(Dulaney) Lambert and Eliza Leedy. Ed's mother was
Pearlie Bell Lowe Lambert Bryant, daughter of Andrew Lowe and Martha Ann Waddell(daughter of Jordan Waddell).

Looking for a birth record from 1860 in Rowan Co.(could be 1861,1862 of course) for Jane Padgett(Melissa Jane)
She is in the 1870 Rowan co census Cross Roads #33 with her father George Padgett.
I found her sister Rosella(Rosalie) birth in Bath Co 1856.
There is also a Harriet Padgett b. abt. 1858 probably Bath co since they are in the 1860 census in Bath at owingsville post office # 918 George W Padgett family.Since the mother is dead by the 1870 census Melissa Jane's birth date gets narrowed(after July 1860 census in Bath but before 1870 census in Rowan-where she is said to be 10).Her mother may have died during or shortly after Melissa Jane's birth.thanks susan

Padgett & Calvert Families

The Padgett Family is first found in Farmers, Rowan Co., KY in the early 1800's. Robert Padgett (1789) married Harriet Traylor and had at least one son, George Washington Padgett (1814-1880). G.W. Padgett married Harriet Calvert in 1835 in Mason Co., Ky and had 14 children in Farmers, Rowan Co., KY. We need help on Robert Padgett, Harriet Traylor and any kin. Amanda Thompson (1861-1884) was my great step grandmother from Flemingsburg, Ky? Anything will be appreciated. The few Padgett's in Farmers are a little "tight lipped." Thanks

Sincerely,

Earl

Earl C.
Lenora National Bank of Morehead

I am researching the old Lenora National Bank of Morehead, which opend on Feb. 3, 1905 and closed on May 9, 1906.
The officers were: W.W. Utterback, president; L.P. Morgan, vice-president; Luke P.V. Williams, cashier; and Charles M. Durham, assistant cashier.
I would like to locate any descendants of those bank officers.
During the time this bank was in excistence, it issued it's own paper money in the form of $5, $10 and $20 bills, called National Currency. I collect this old paper money and would like to acquire one for my collection.
I'd also be interested in knowing how the bank got it's name of "Lenora," as that has always intrigued me. I figured it might be the first name of the wife of one of the bank officers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Richard L.

I really hate to complain, but the site needs an update. Does anyone know of an altenative site for Rowan County genealogy? I know of other counties which have two or more sites devoted to genealogy. If there is one out there please let me know. Rowan County is my birthplace and I do not think I will ever get over leaving it. I had no choice in the matter because I moved with my parents to Ohio. I thought when I reached adulthood that I would be able to return but things do not alway work out as we wish. I recall the many visits as a child and how difficult it was to leave. I would never look back as we were leaving for Ohio. It was much to sad to leave those I loved so dearly behind. Donna

Christine died about age 5, and Arzetta died at 11 months, with Sylvesta dying at age 20 a month after Arzetta. Death records indicate that Sylvesta died in Rowan Co., so I am presuming she went to her mother's when it came close to her due date. Can anyone provide information on Sylvesta "Vesta" Brown Lewis? I am specifically looking for information on a Zenas Clark whose sons are buried there. Zenas was born in Mass. abt. 1815 and I am having a heck of a time finding who his parents were. I have no death date and no burial record and my assumption is that he is probably buried in Pine Grove. Any information or advice would be appreciated.
