MANSFIELD: Emit Johnson, 81, of Mansfield, Ohio died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at his residence.
Born January 12, 1931 in Rowan County, Kentucky he was the son of Eddie and Ruby (Johnson) Johnson.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the 38th Army Infantry during the Korean War.
Emit was a proud member of U.A.W. Union Local 549 and retired from General Motors following 30 years of service. He enjoyed being around his family and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally.
His favorite hobby was sitting on the porch.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Perdue) Minnie Johnson; a son, Perry Johnson of Mansfield, Ohio; a stepson, Paul Minnie; six grandchildren, Tanya (Brandon) Hickok of Ashland, Ohio, Joshua Johnson of Ashland, Ohio, Randy (Sally) Johnson of Golden, CO, Rebecca Johnson of Mansfield and Amy Carver of Mansfield; a step grandson, Mike; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Nora Fraley of Mansfield and Edith Mae (Lee) Johnson of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie J. and Randall L. Johnson; a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Scott; two brothers, Arthur Marvin and Raymond Johnson; and a sister, Dora Lee Lacey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield conducted by Pastor Carl Woodyard.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail following the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Franklin Church Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the funeral service, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home on Saturday.
