Thanks to a generous researcher, my Burtons are found in the 1870 Ohio Co. KY Census!

Margaret Burton, age 50, born KY farmer (Margaret born in VA---Margaret Brooks Burton is widow of Jesse Burton born Pulaski Co. KY died 1863 in CW.)

Only the 3 younger Burton children are listed in this census:
Mealy Burton 14 (Amelia E. Burton born 1851, age 19). Mary Elizabeth Burton and James Burton.
Also in Margaret's HH is William ADAMS age 70 listed as farm hand. (Jesse's sister Elizabeth Burton married David Adams ?Pulaski Co. KY. Also, looking for a connection between this William Adams and David Adams.)

Mealy/Amelia E. Burton/Burden married John Clark/Clarke Aug. 1872 in Ohio co. (Caney?) KY.
John born 1848 in VA.
Per marriage documents, John Clark listed his 1872 residence as Virginia, his occupation as a "laborer."
Living in VA and courting Amelia in Ohio Co. KY must have been difficult. Nothing has been found about John's parents, city of birth or if he was staying with Clark relatives in Ohio Co., etc...)
There is a listing for Margaret & Jesse's son Thomas Burton/Burden in Ohio Co.
Thomas Burden's signature is on Amelia and John Clark's marriage document as a witness. W.H. Burton, Amelia's younger brother, signed statement supporting Margaret's permission for Amelia to marry John Clark.

What was the employment attraction to Ohio Co. KY in the early 1870s? Was there any type of employment that would attract young men from neighboring states during this time frame?

Margaret Brooks Burton and Mary Elizabeth are in Lincoln Co. KY in 1875. This family stayed close together and John and Amelia Clark may have moved with Margaret Burton to Lincoln Co., but so far cannot find them in Lincoln Co. KY.

My Burtons and Clarks are in Rockcastle Co. KY for the 1880 Census. John is now a coal miner.
