I am researching the Bishop family from Nicholas County, KY. My g-g-grandfather was Wilford Nelson Bishop. He was born 8/9/1866. I've been told that my g-g-grandmother, Sallie Barnes, was his second wife. Am interested in his parents, siblings, possible first wife and any children born from that marriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a weak BISHOP connection in Nicholas County, KY. I have a Mary Jane BISHOP daughter of Richard and Jane BISHOP, born in Kentucky in 1826 according to the 1850 Census of Clermont County, OHIO.

There is a Richard BISHOP listed in Nicholas Twp, Nicholas County KY in the 1830 census. This census shows only names of heads of households, but there is a female child between 0-5 years old, which would fit the birth of Mary Jane BISHOP, as well as one male between 5-10, and one female 10-15.

I believe Richard, Jane and Mary Jane moved to Clermont Cty, OHIO by 1840, if I read the 1840 census correctly. I cannot account for the other members of the family listed in the 1830 census.

Mary Jane BISHOP married an Ephraim JOHNSON in December 1843. They, as well as Richard and Jane BISHOP, are listed as living in one household in the 1850 Census in Clermont County, OH. Mary Jane and Ephraim had a daughter Elizabeth JOHNSON in 1853. I have a handwritten poem by Elizabeth dated "July 27 1879, Carlisle, Nicholis (sic) County, Kentucky" Could she have been visiting her grandparents' relatives there???

Elizabeth JOHNSON is one of my great-grandmothers.

Hope this helps. Any corroboration appreciated.

This is a very late posting, but I believe this is your family listed in the 1880 census.

Just found your post and hope you are still active after all this time. RICHARD BISHOP & JANE TROTTER are my gg grandparents. Mary Jane Johnson, your gg grandmother, was the sister of my great grandfather James BISHOP who married Mary Elizabeth Harmon. Their son Elmer BISHOP married Matilda Quicksall and their son George Quicksall BISHOP is my father.

According to what I have, Richard was the son of either Samuel BISHOP or possibly...Richard BISHOP, Sr. He had two brothers, Daniel & Greenberry.

I would like to exchange information with other descendants of this line.

THANKS !!!! Jim BISHOP nyccousin@juno.com
