I was just looking up "Harbit" on the message board and saw your old notes posted from over a year ago. My grandmother's maiden name was Harbit. Some of the names you mentioned looked so familiar. MY great-great grandfather was William Jackson Harbit and he was born abt. 1826 in Nicholas Co. Ky. He married Nancy Townsend in Indiana in 1849. They had several children born in Tipton, Co. Indiana. My great-grandfather was named Francis Marion Harbit.
My g-g-grandparents had Sarah, Francis, James, Henry, Amanda, Isaac, Dora May, Kneutsen, and Charles. Some of them died very young. I thought with the similarity in names and place of birth there must be some connection. I know thru some of my searching that more often than not they named there children after grand parents, Aunts, Uncles.
Just thought I would send you a note with my input. I just lost my Mother a few weeks ago and I sure wish I had gone thru this with her many years ago. It is her side that was a Harbit. Her mother was Chloe Harbit married to Leonard Baker. My g-g-grandfather's second wife was Jane Phillips.
