Looking for the descendants of Enoch GOODAN (sometimes in Nicholas County records spelled: en, in, ing, win). Believe Enoch to be descended from Daniel and Elizabeth DRAKE WHEELER GOODAN of Montgomery and Bath Counties. Originally migrated to KY from Northumberland County PA in 1803. I have much information to share.

I am looking for Wheelers in Bath and Nicholas Co. There was a Joseph Wheeler in Nicholas Co in 1840 census. He may be the Joseph Wheeler who lived in Wayne Co, KY 1810-1820. I have the descends of Charles Wheeler(b.1792 VA) of Bath Co, KY. Also in Bath Co is Eliza Wheeler who married Robert Badger in 1822(daughter of Levi Wheeler per LDS) and a Polly Wheeler who married a Thomas Iles 1810 Bath Co. Any connection to your Wheelers?

GOODAN - GOODWIN CONFUSION

Surnames: GOODAN
Some time ago I posted a query on the Nicholas County site regarding Enoch Goodan. I recently discovered I was in error about the surname. I found an obituary in the June 1877 Carlisle newspaper for Enoch Goodwin. I will post it on the obituary site. My apologies. It would seem that the Goodans and Goodwins migrated to the same area in Montgomery and Bath Counties. This has caused a great deal of confusion because the surname was usually recorded with some mixing between the two. When I found a deed in Bath County for Enoch Goodan moving to Nicholas County, I assumed he was a Goodan not a Goodwin.

Polly Wheeler was the "Widow Wheeler" when she married Thomas Iles. Her maiden name was Foster. You're right that her first husband was Levi Wheeler (1780-1810). Their two children were Samuel and Eliza (m. Roger Nelson Badger).

Polly and Thomas Iles may have had a son, Thomas Jefferson Iles, who became a physician and died in Davenport, Iowa.
