I am descended from a Matthew Conner who married Betsy Shaver in Montgomery Co., KY in 1798; I am attempting to find any connection that may have existed with the few other Conners in that Clark-Montgomery Co. area that includes Wm., John, and Isaac Conner.

There was a Wm Conner, Rev. War pensioner, who was born in Isle of Wight Co., VA about 1763, who was raised by his older (unnamed brother) in Surry Co., NC before moving first to Fayette, then Clark, then Montgomery Co. The 1800 tax list shows Matthew, Isaac and Wm Conner all three on the same day, August 22nd. The Isaac Conner family appears to have come from Fauquier Co., VA, but I cannot find any reference to any Matthew in the online records.

There was also a John Conner and a Wm Conner in Clark Co. in the 1790's, and it's possible that John may have been the older brother Wm referred to in his pension application.

Matthew may have died in Estill Co., but that is not known; his second wife was Betsy Best, who he married in Clark Co. in 1812. Her father, Rev. War pensioner James Best died in Estill, and it's possible that Matthew Conner had some connection with him prior to their arrival in Kentucky.
There are many Conners (including the name Lewis which also shows up in Surry Co., NC) in the area of Norfolk and Nansemond Co., VA. in the southeastern part of the state. James Best was born in Nansemond according to his pension application.

I would be glad to hear from any other Conner descendants out there and exchange information.

Thanks,

Todd Moberly
