The McLean KYGenWeb site has a short narrative of that event sent to me by Paul Bohannon several years ago - you may wish to email him Look at the surname page under Bohannon. The story is on the McLean Life page under the title Preacher wins a gunfight.
The main KyGenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/ has a link called Ky Newspapers - this links to the U of KY newspaper on microfilm project. The only pre 1900 McLean papers are from the year 1890
However you may wish to research Owensboro and Madisonville papers given it is such a unique story. If you find further info I'd be interested. If possible I'd like to add info to the website
