Hi! I'm looking for any information regarding my ancestors from McCracken County. My great-grandfather's name was John Cannon Bonner and he was born in Paducah in the late 1800's, I believe. If I'm not mistaken, he was first married to Maryetta Ballance and then to my great-grandmother, Alda Benson, of North Carolina. I would like to know his parents and grandparents names if possible. I would also like to know if he had any brothers and sisters and where the family is originally from...my grandfather who is now deceased never knew his father. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Josh from NC

My dad was born Danny Thomas Snipes in March of 1959. His mothers name was Katie Lee (Bland, Green,Upton not sure) She later moved to AZ where she died of emphasema. We think that he has 7 sisters. 1 possibly lived in Portsmouth, VA. 1 Possibly lived in Kingsly, GA. 2 Possibly lived in AZ, NM area. We think he had a brother who was also adopted first name possibly Butch. All these children may not have had the same fathers. We do know that there was an Aunt who lived in Norfolk, VA on Bangor Ave, named Mary Mathews who has since passed. All we know about my dad's father is that his last name was snipes and he was in the Navy possibly.
When my father was adopted his name was changed to John Hall Jr. He was adopted from his home in NC by John and Gladys Hall. Katie Lee and some of my dads sisters lived on Bangor in Norfolk for a while with Ms. Mathews right accross the street where my dads new home was at the time. Katie Lee was quite fond of my Great Aunt Alma Hall and her daughter Cheryl. If you have any info can you please email me.

William Copeland, John Copeland and Joshua Short Copeland.

We will hold our 2nd reunion at the Massac Creek Community of Christ on June 21, 2008. The church is located off of 12th street on Com. Park Drive in Metropolis, IL. The time is from 11am- 3 pm and we will have a prayer followed by a potluck meal at noon in the gym. The Jones family will provide ice. There are plenty of plug-ins for crock-pots and warm dishes.
Shortly after lunch we want to make pictures and there will be plenty of time for visiting. I would like to ask for a representative from each branch of the family (Douglas, Jones, Riley, Sharp, Copeland) who would read a list of their families Veterans and mention which branch of service they represented and what war. We have been fortunate to have so many in our combined families who have served or are presently serving and we would like to remember them and their service. Let me know if you are willing to share a word about your family’s contribution.
I didn’t make another DVD movie this year but I am continuing to add to the family scrapbook. If you have any suggestions or contributions please let me know. I can make available more of the 2007 Family History Project DVD if necessary. My contact information is Karen Riley Hall, 4354 Quality Rd., Lewisburg, KY 42256 if you have e-mail then contact me at dkhall85@netscape.com or dkmnlhall@juno.com. My phone # is 270-755-5404.
Let me know what your family would like to contribute and I will compile a list of things we might still need. We had so much to choose from last year and it was really good food.
I have heard from several that they plan to attend and I am looking forward to getting to visit more this year. I am sure we will have some different faces this year and getting to know some of you better.
I know that some will not be able to make it but I do look forward to seeing several there. Make plans to attend if you can.
I have recent pictures of the Graham Family tombstones located in Grahamville, KY as well as some old family portraits. I only have one picture of William and Margaret's children made when they were much older. In it are Julia Effie Graham Douglas, her brother John Graham, sister Emily Graham Smith, and others. I also have some marriage documents for this family.
Karen Riley Hall (a granddaughter of Fred & Velma Douglas Riley)

I couldn't find anything online to help me.
He was married to Lucy A. and had a son, Ivenson, and daughter, Clara, that lived with him and Lucy in 1920. He was a cooper.
I can't make out the cemetery he is buried in on the death certificate and wanted to see if there is any mention of his family and heritage in the newspaper.
If anyone knows anymore about this person, I'd be delighted to share Potter, Kirby, info.

William Clinton Graham m to Margaret Ann Purdy were my ggrandparents. Their daughter Julia Effie Graham married James Anderson Douglas. Julia was born in Warren Co. Iowa on 9/12/1859. She had a sister (Emily) born 4/11/1861 according to the Birth Record Book for Marshall Co. Ky. 1852-1859. This family had to have moved between the years of these two daughters births. The Graham family is some of the original forefathers of the town of Grahamville, Ky. located just west of Paducah in McCracken Co. Ky. If anyone has any information that would help me find out more about this family please contact me. Is their printable material about the town of Grahamville that tells how it got its name?

Hello to All. Searching for information on William M. Sullivan b. ca 1869 Hardeman Co. TN. who married Willie Mae Harkless.b.ca. 1868, daughter of John O. Harkless and Sarah Nichols Harkless of Ballard Co. Ky. William and Willie Mae married in Bolivar, Hardeman Co. TN. 1877. Willie Mae died 1896. Two of their children were Dan Allan Sullivan who died in McCracken Co. in 1979 and Mollie Sullivan who I know nothing about. Have reason to believe this family left TN, after marrying and returned to Ballard, or McCracken Co. KY. William probably remarried. If anyone could check the 1900 census for McCracken Co. for this Sullivan family minus Willie Mae, I would greatly appreciate it. Any information welcome and I am willing to share what I have. Thanks. Nancy Sullivan NSull7@aol.com

I'm researching the enlisted soldiers of the 6th Tennessee Cavalry Union Army Co. C. Private Benjamin Martin, was one of these men. He moved to McCracken Co. some time before 1870, and died there in 1917. I'm seeking pictures of his and his wives, Charlotte Vickery (b. 1846-d. 1882) and Melissa Houston (b. 1853-d. 1919), headstones and cemetery information if anyone has this information. This information is for a book of biographical sketches of the enlisted men of this regiment.

Thanks

Mike

My great grandfather was William Riley Baggett, he was married to Sarah Elizabeth Wooley. Their 6 children were as follows: Carrie Bell b.1882, Margaret Isabell b.1885, Hattie or Hettie, Viola, John b.1992, Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie). I know that my Grandmother was born in Kentucky, although I'm not exactly sure where. I also know that they lived in Paducah (McCracken County) Kentucky as well as in Montgomery County, Tennessee.
My grandmother Carrie Bell lost all contact with her family sometime in the early 1900's and I've only recently discovered what happened to her sister Maggie.
Please help me put the pieces of this puzzle together. I would so love to discover other "cousins" with Baggett connections, maybe together we can solve the mystery.

I'll happily share whatever information I may have.
Waiting to hear from you Baggetts out there. On the McCracken County website, New Hope is not even listed as a cemetery there. Can anyone help to clear this up??? I had a friend looking for the cemetery to photograph the tombstones and she couldn't find it either. Thanks....

German Catholic Migrations to McCracken Co.

I'm not sure of the best place to post this, so please excuse any crosspostings to different boards.

My wife is descended from German Catholic immigrants to McCracken Co. (St. John's parish). It appears that these immigrants came in two separate waves (though that might just be her ancestors rather than a general pattern).

The first wave of the German Catholic immigrants arrived in McCracken in the early 1830s. It then appears that there was another wave around 1860 (late 1850s to late 1860s). Does this fit with immigration patterns that anyone is familiar with? If these patterns are real, what historical events might have caused these Catholics to leave Germany when they did?

Any comments, speculations, or theories would be appreciated.

Jeff Nelson
Paducah, KY

Cemetery Lookup Request

I live about an hour away from McCracken County, so any cemetery lookups help is much appreciated. My relatives moved to Graves Co., KY from IL between 1876-80. They lived in the northern Graves Co. / southern McCracken Co. area. Here are the relatives I'm searching for: George Scribner, Emeline (Scribner) Archer, Patsy (Scribner) Cruse, and Sarah Jane (Scribner) Mongold or Mangold. Here's what I know about the above people. George Scribner was born 1830-33. He died sometime in the 1880s. His son, George W. Scribner, and his son's family are buried in Johnson Cemetery near Boaz in Graves Co., KY. Emeline (Scribner) Archer was married to George Scribner until he died in the 1880s. She remarried a William Archer in 1889 in Graves Co., KY. She was alive in 1900 and living with a daughter, but I don't know what became of her. Patsy (Scribner) Cruse was George and Emeline's daughter. She married Milton Cruse and apparently died between 1900 and 1910. Milton died June 15, 1949 and is buried in Carter's Mill Cemetery. She was born around 1881. Sarah Jane (Scribner) Mongold or Mangold was another daughter of George and Emeline. She was born around 1874. You can contact me by email if you prefer:
stevescribner@yahoo.com . Thanks for any help, Steve Scribner

William, Cecil, Roy, Dorie, & Fannie Lovelace

Am seeking information on William Lovelace, who with his wife, name unknown, and children, Cecil, Roy, Dorie--a male child, and Fannie, left Kentucky and went to a small town in Buchanan County, named DeKalb. Upon their arrival the lady died quickly and left William with 4 small children. I have no dates on the trip, but am guessing it was in the mid to late 1800's. I am trying to help a descendant who states that the family may have been from the Paducah area. I am hoping that the childrens' first names, will help someone connect the children to their father, William.

improved Husband & Husbands family tree

at
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=ildau&a...
I've posted an improved descendancy of Husband & Husbands families of the Southern Colonies, and later Southern states. a few went to PA OH IL
---
I'll probably improve that online family tree a little in coming months. So far I haven't been systematic in spelling of the surname, so y'all may have to search under both Husband and Husbands.
---------------------------
It's better to go directly to the above URL for website, or via worldconnect family trees portal at www.rootsweb.com
or search at http://wc.rootsweb.com
BY THOSE PORTALS, y'all can look at the source notes, or can look at more recent generations than are provided by the early global descendancy, for person on the family tree by just clicking on a name.
ALSO via those portals, the latest updates and corrections are incorporated into the family tree.
----------------------------------------
BUT, as a less preferred alternative, in case the above options aren't possible, here's what my descendancy currently says:
1.
Davidson Family Grave Yard. On or near the McCracken-Graves Co KY Line

Hi McCracken Co Reasearchers

I am trying to find the graves of CHARLTON B and SALLIE M
BARKSDALE DAVIDSON. CHARLTON DAVIDSON died in June 1842?
He was on the committee to pick the site of the 1st Marsh-
all Co Courthouse in June 1842.Along with my grandpa BOYD
on my MoMs side of the family. CHARLTON and SALLIE owned
land on the Island Creek. On the graves-mccracken at Isl Crk
Charlton Davidson isnt on the 1850 McCracken Co census but
Sallie Davidson is.She is also on the 1860 census. She is
living with her son who is my line William P Davidson. I
have been told she died 1866? There is no record of it.W.P
Davidson's daughter Sallie Davidson who married George W
Boaz was born on the Island Creek farm near the RR trestle
1856. I think the Davidson family were members of REV Isaiah
King's Island Creek Baptist Church. He was my wife 3rd great
grandpa King.Another clue as to the Davidson graveyard is
Thomas C Davidson 1825 KY after 1903 KY.He was mentioned in
the Memorial Record Of West Ky which was published in 1904.
Tom C Davidson was the bro of William P Davidson. He isnt
buried in a Paducah Cem.So that is another reason for my
belief of the Davidson graveyard? If anyone knows of the
graveyard or can give any info on the family it is apprec-
iated. IN CHRIST Greg Davidson CARMEND@MIDWEST.NET

Two of Margaret Purdy's brothers fought on opposite sides during the Civil War.
Two Graham cousins were killed when the steamship Golconda sank in the Ohio River about 1901-11? I am not sure exactly what year that accident was but I do know there are newspaper accounts of what happened in the Paducah library and in the Smithland Ky Archives bldg.
William and Margaret's son Zelotus Graham was credited with "founding" Grahamville and he was the 1st member of the Grahamville lodge. The land where the cemetery is located is adjacent to this lodge today.
Julie Graham married James Anderson Douglas from the Massac/Pulaski County, IL area and they lived all of their married life close to the Ohio River in IL.
Descendants of the GRAHAM,DOUGLAS,RILEY,JONES,COPELAND and others are having a reunion at Fort Massac (in Metropolis, Massac Co., IL) on June 16, 2007. We will have a potluck meal at 11am and ask that all families bring a dish. For more information please contact me at Karen Riley Hall dkhall85@netscape.com or dkmnlhall@juno.com My mailing address is 4354 Quality Road, Lewisburg, KY 42256. I would love to hear from any related family. I have pictures of William, Margaret Graham and their daughter Julie Effie Graham and her husband James Anderson Douglas.

I am trying to trace down the roots of a William Turner WILLIAMS, whom I understand was born in Paducah, KY in 1852 and left home at a early age because he could not get along with a step-mother. Went to Texas and married a Susan C (Susie) WARREN in 1879 in Erath County, Texas. If anyone has any information, I would like to share. Thanking you very much.
