There is a lot of confusion about the correct Mary that was married to Andrew Jackson Howard.

Clarification: Mary Howard, the daughter of James Howard and Cynthia Howard, born in 1857, was the person married to Andrew Jackson Howard. Mary J Howard, daughter of Reuben Howard & Nancy Arnett was born in 1854 and was actually Andrew Jackson Howard's cousin, not wife. *the attachment is a jpeg of an abbreviated pedigree.

I have evidence of this from gravestones and the 1860 census that shows each Mary in her respective household. I have been extensively researching this line, and if you have any info to share or any questions to ask, go ahead: jen@dave-and-jen.com.

John Prater is probably a son of Jonathan Prater & Margaret "Peggy" Bailey. I have not seen proof, as yet, however.

I am descended from John & Purlina (Hamman) Prater's daughter, Emma Prater who married Jefferson Davis Lewis.

Thrilled to see your post. My grandmother was Maudie Howard Joseph, dau of Charlie Howard and Martha Shepherd (dau of Brice) She spoke often of "Uncle Bob" and was so proud of his accomplishments.
During flu epidemic of 1918, her family lived with Brice "Flitterfoot." She was born in 1903 so was of the age to remember them well. I think that Bob did not live with him-perhaps with Lewis Shepherd (in 1920 census.
Would like to share info. Stories your father knew of Brice.
Family tree at ancestry is Coffey, Howard, Wilson. Have many photos and sources. Some of Robert Lee Shepherd

Brice was my grandfather. He was 70 years old when my dad Robert L Shepherd was born. Brice died in 1926. My dad was the only child that Brice and my grandmother Lucinda Ratliff Ousley had. Each of my grandparents had children by previous marriages.

HI, I'm not sure if Caleb and Margaret Mays are buried in this cemetary but there is a May Cemetary, next to the road on Highway (7) 421 between Salyersville and West Liberty.
Hopefully someone will be able to tell you exactly they where. I may have pic of the graves, took a lot in magoffin co. I Will check, if I do; will let you know.

Yes, the John Hale who died in 1938, his father was also John Hale. The John Hale who died in 1938, his father - John Hale may have been born 1806-1820 somewhere in VA. According some researchers he was born 1815 in Wythe County, VA. But, according to the Wythe County Historical Society, no Hale familes were living in Wythe County, VA during time that John Hale is thought to have been born. The Wythe County Historical Society also stated, that there were Hale families in Grayson County, VA during the time John Hale was thought to have been born that had sons that might be this John Hale. John Hale's son William Hale (born 1834-1844 in Russell County, VA) submitted a sworn statement with his Giuon Miller Roll application that stated his father (John Hale) was born 1806 in or near Avington, VA. I couldn't find a city in VA by the name of Avington, but I did find a city named Abingdon in Washington County. So, maybe that's what me meant, but I've found no proof of John Hale being there or anywhere in VA.

These John Hale's are my g grandfather (the one who died in 1938) and my gg grandfather is the John Hale born 1806-1820. Would you have any info on the John Hale born 1806-1820? Thnaks for any help.

Thank you so much for searching. Philp Slusher's family told that after the mother died Philip would bring 'little Rosie & Willie to visit. G.ma said Willie died quite young, he had just started walking. They were both born while Philip was married to Nancy Adams we think. His 1st wife was Samantha Conley but G.ma rembered 'Nancy' because she stayed with her some before she lived with William & Lora (Caldwell)Slusher. I doubt there were any records since the children were both born oow. G.ma also said that she was told to never ever tell that her Mom was Indian or she would be taken away from family. Thanks again.

You're right, this may be him. He was really a judge because G.ma Rosie told a story about him & his political beliefes. He had said to her that if Philip Slusher knew his daughter was voting Democrat he would roll over in his grave. She replied "Uncle J., if my Dad knew me & his Grandchild were going hungry he would come out of his grave." Philip died 1913 so this conversation took place after that date & she was living in Magoffin Co at the time. Thank you very much. Do you have any idea of how to find out if he had a sister named Kate, Catie, or Katherine??

Caleb Bailey Bowling

I am looking for info on my great-grandfather, William Henry Bowling's parents, Bailey Bowling and Sarilda unknown. William Henry states on marriage and census records he was born in Magoffin County, Ky. Oct 11, 1872. Sometimes the year of his birth varies from 1870-1873, but the month is always the same.
There is a marriage record for Baley Bowling & Sarilda Carty married Jan 12, 1872 in Magoffin County, Ky. This record seems to fit the timeline and could be Wm. Henry's parents. Most of the family histories or trees suggest this Bailey is "Caleb Bailey Bowling" son of Henry H. and Nellie Blankinship Bowling.
I am not so sure and here's why:
Caleb Bailey Bowling married Slyvania Cantrell June 20, of 1873. They had a child Henry who was born in 1875 and died March 27, 1912 in Morgan Co. Ky. Bailey & Slyvania state in census records they have 15 children and 14 are still living. So, the one that isn't living must be Henry.

Okay, this is what I am questioning: I found a death record for James K. Bowling born 1874 and died November 1875 in Morgan Co. Ky. His parents are Bailey and Sarildo Bowling both born in Va. (This couldn't be Bailey and Sylvania Cantrell's child, would Bailey mistakenly put down his first wife's name, doesn't seem likely). And the census records would say they had 15 children with 13 still living.
My Sarilda has stated on census records she had two children, one still living. I think this Bailey could be my ancestor and not Caleb Bowling, son of Henry H.
My Sarilda remarried in Oct of 1880 to Moses Childers in Lawrence Co. Ky. Possibly this other Bailey died. Also possible is this Bailey had another first name and was much older than Caleb Bailey. This is all so confusing.
Can anyone shed any light on this.

In 1987 an old rock marker was found in an abandoned Collinsworth Cemetery on Burning Fork It is the grave of James Ervin Collinsworth. We are having a granite marker made for James and his wife Malinda Matilda Kilgore. I will be set in the fall.

You need to find the correct Judge Watson on the 1880 census in hopes that he has a sibling listed named Kate, etc. Bastardy bonds for Magoffin County might offer a clue. I couldn't find a listing for Kate or Rosa or Willie on the 1900 census.

Hi, this is my line as well. Cuthberth Stone married Sally Sisson, was in American Revolution and had a son Cuthberth married Clarenda Arnett in Magoffin Co. I think these guys are my GG grandfather and ggrandfather. My grandfather was Floyd Stone, son of Cuthberth Stone and Sarah Elizabeth Pierce. My Floyd was b. 1896 in Lewis Co. I would love to know who was the father to the elder Cuthberth Stone and who were his siblings and children. I know very little and yes he seems to be elusive. Somewhere on here I read he was a messenger in the New Salem Baptist Church somewhere in Magoffin Co. Hope this helps. Hi, this is my Stone family.My line is Thelma Stone Zornes,(my Mom)Floyd K. Stone, Cuthberth Stone Jr. married Clarenda Arnett, in Magoffin Co.; Cuthberth Stone who married Sally Sisson. He was in American Revolution. I would like to know how is Cuthberth Stone senior's father. I would like also to know what cementary he is buried in around Magoffin Co. My grandfather Floyd Stone's dad Cuthberth died when grandpa was about 4/5 yrs. old. Cuthberth was then married to Sarah Elizabeth Pierce Stone.They had 2 sons, Floyd & Hollis, 4 daughters I believe. She then after Cuthberth death married Thomas Theodore Carver.
I live in Lewis Co. born raised here and can't find much on Cuthberth Stone and his family. Does anyone have info on William M Hale born 1834-1844 in Russell County, Virginia and Eliza Jane Gullett born about May 1862 in Kentucky. William and Eliza appear to have been married about 1900 in Magoffin County, Kentucky according to the FamilySearch.org web site.

I need info on William and Eliza's parents, siblings, and children. Thanks for any help.

Is this the John Hale you are seeking info on? According to the death certificate I've seen, this John Hale died 16 April, 1938 at Salyersville, KY. It stated he was born 1850 in Magoffin County, KY (this can't be right, because Magoffin County, KY was not formed until 1861). Info I have is that he was born in Perry County, KY. The death certificate also states the informant was "Eastern State Hospital, Lextingotn, KY". Burial is stated as being in Salyersville, KY, 16 Apr. 1938. The undertaker is listed as: "Patrick & Prater Salyersville, KY". The dated listed for filing the Death Certificate is 5/3/1938. Cause of death is listed as: "Lobar Pneumonia" with Contributory Cause as: "Senile Psychosis".

Hi Brandon,

My name is John Hale, my g grandmother is Nancy Trusty, she married my g greandfather - John Hale. I recently found this William Trusty family tree online. I don't have an email address at this time. I'd like to post the William Trusty family tree here and see if you could provide some help with it. As you will see, with William Trusty it states his death date as 1784, it also states he maried Anna Robbins (her birth date is listed as 1784). As you can see this can't be true. The family tree alao states that William and Anna were married around 1814, so William couldn't have died and married Anna if he died in 1784.

If you could I like to see if you have any info on Nancy Trusty and John Hale. I know that John Hale was born about 1853-1855 in KY. His father is, I think - John Hale born about 1806-1820 in one tof these Virginia counties: Grayson County, Washington COunty, or Wythe County, his mother is, I think Sarah Fawbush (born about 1822 in Sullivan County, TN, her fahter is, I think - Hugh Fawbush (born about 1765-1777 in Washington County, TN)). I think there may also be a Cherokee connection, but I don't know if the Cherokee connection is with the Hale, Fawbush, or Trusty families.

I hope you can help me with these requests and I thank you for any help you can give me.

Darwin Williams the son of Warney Williams was killed by a metal piece that flew out of a Large tree as he was cutting log on a Saw Mill in Magoffin CO KY.
Warney Williams>(the father of Darwin Williams) was the family member that was a Deputy who was shot and killed in around 1938 in Magoffin Co, KY.

To Kandy Backagee. I saw where you posted this obituary. This is my Mom. She was from Fairborn, Ohio where she passed away. She was born in Burning Fork just outside of Saylersville, KY. I did not know if you was just posting obits from Kentucky or was looking for someone special. My Mom was from Preston, Praters, Wards and Caudills from what she told me.
