Surnames: Stuart/Stewart, McCown, Tindol, Miller, Goodwin, Jones, others
For years my dead end has been William Davis Stuart born 1823 in AL (from census records) and died in Neshoba Co., MS in 1907. My first documentation of him is the 1850 Winston Co., MS Federal Census. After that he always appeared in Neshoba County.
He gave his father's place of birth as KY on at least one census.
I recently participated in the Stewart/Stuart/ all spellings Family Tree DNA Project. I matched only one other group - known descendants of James and Mary Lafferty Stewart who settled the Cowpasture River area of old Augusta Co., VA in the mid 1700's. Several descendants of this family had moved into KY by the 1770's.
I'm hoping someone might be able to point me toward a Stewart/Stuart family of this descent that moved to AL by the early 1800's. Or possibly have a William of the correct age to be my William Davis Stuart.
Thanks,
George Stuart
Smith Co., MS
