Looking for information on the parents of Elizabeth Jane Burgess. She was born 5 Oct 1835 in Lawrence Co, Kentucky and married Joseph A Johnson on 13 May 1859.

My great aunt's DAR application states that Elizabeth is the daughter of Henry Burgess and Sarah Spencer (2nd wife). I believe this not to be true since Sarah was fairly old in 1835.

The 1850 census shows Henry Burgess (77), Mary Burgess (36) and Elizabeth (14). I'm wondering if Mary Burgess is Henry's daughter and Elizabeth the out of wedlock daughter of Mary or perhaps a daughter of one of the sons.

I just think I'm missing a generation somewhere.
