Does anyone know where Abel Pennington from Jackson County Kentucky was buried? Abel was fairly well to do and owned much property, but his grave seems to be a total mystery. He is reported to have been buried in the Moore's Creek Cemetary or Lizard Flat, but his grave if there is unmarked or we can't find it. He did own property in Owsley County and Jackson County and perhaps elsewhere. His wife Elizabeth Bolling Pennington was buried in the Green Hill Cemetary and is the oldest grave there. His daughter Nancy Pennington McGee Arnold (Granny Arnold) is buried in the Moore Cemetary (her daughter Lucretia McGee Moore was buried there before her mother and the cemetary was named after her) on the Dry Fork of Moore's Creek in Annville, Jackson County, Kentucky. We also do not know the burial place of his remaining children, except for Levi Pennington who is buried in the York Cemetary in Annville. Any information would be appreciated.

That must be a different Abel Pennington. That name was repeated numerous times in that family. My Abel Pennington was a judge and a lawyer who helped found Perry County and he was born in the 1700's, I believe. His daughter Nancy was born in 1829. We have a tin type picture of Abel showing his characteristic top hat and gold knobbed cane.

i was looking for Abel this past weekend (Apr 22, 2006) and could not find his stone in Moore's Creek Cem. i DID find John D. Pennington, his wife Sarah, their last son John H, his wife Betty and their child (?) in Knox Cemetery.

did not know that Levi was in knox Cem, nor did i see a stone, but there are many old deteriorated stones there. i took pictures of John and his family's stones.

(John is my GGGGGrandfather, Abel is my GGGGGGrandfather. )

regards,
Jim Pennington

Check www.findagrave.com and input the info you are looking for. I saw his grave info there which said he was a Judge? If all else fails send me an e-mail at azfop5@msn.com and i will find a copy of it for you.

My great grandfather was Alonzo Charles Pennington born 1854 in Mississippi parents Willie and maiden name of Jackson from Alabama and died in 1936 in Oklahoma. Found a lot of Pennington's and have contacts with Able Penningtons decendent but no luck in my group prior to 1880?
Good Luck
