Sandy, I was born in Lynchburg, VA - my name is Joyce Sisk Creasy and my father was William Oscar Sisk, the son of Elijah Lumpkin Sisk who was the son of Andrew Jackson Sisk. My father was born in Mt. Airy, GA and his ancestors came from Habersham County,GA. Andrew Jackson Sisk was indeed married twice , first to Celia Caroline Jones who was my grandfathers mother and Florence Whitfield who bore him three children and I know Judge was her son and I think ( I can research this to confirm) Elizabeth was one of his sisters - I seem to recall one being Martha. I named my daughter Celia Gay ( my grandmother was Mary Gay Hosea from South Carolina and my father named my daughter after his grandmother and his mother. Andrew Jackson Sisk father was Gabriel Marion who was married to Lucinda (Susannah Sosbee and I remember hearing the name Garrett somewhere. In the Sisk family a good many girls were named Celia Caroline. I have a huge book that came from my father's first cousin, Theodore Sisk of Lexington, Ky. and he acquired it from
Luther Sisk of California who was a direct descendant of Robert Sisk who migrated to Texas . and the family thence migrated to CA. We are definitely in the same family and my book lists most every state of the Union with family history.

I He lived in Hopkins, KY around 1895. he was married to carrie Titsworth and they show two children in census records, Hardy Monroe,(my father-in-law) and Lionel Prescott. They moved to Lutcher, Louisiana sometime around 1930. Any information you may have that will help me determine their connection to other families would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick Yoes

I have a marriage license for John Roberts and Mary Matthews from 1825. I have reason to believe this is my G-G-G Grandfather. I am looking for any info on these two individuals. I believe Mary Matthews made her way to Johnson County, Illinois by 1850 along with her children, but I think the husband was dead by that point. I don't know where either of these people came from or who their parents were. I believe Mary was born either 1808 or 1810 and John was born about 1802.

Muhammed ALI"S Ancestor Search

I received this email on my KYJEFFER list:

Dear List,
I am writing from Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland,
Muhammed Ali is to visit Co. Clare on Sept 1 to search for his roots,
I am hoping to help make the connection.
John Grady left Co. Clare and moved to Kentucky, his son Abe (Abraham) Grady
b.1865 was Ali's greatgrandfather. He had son John.L. Grady and he had a
daughter, Odessa Lee Grady, Ali's mother.
According to the 1870 census
John Grady (Abe's father), aged 49, b. Ireland.
Listed as living in Louisville Ward 11, Jefferson, Kentucky.
Living with
Mary 43. b.Kentucky
Mary 18. b.Kentucky.
William 13. b.Kentucky.

Is there anyone out there that might have access to the Kentucky records that
could help find out more on this John ???
Any breakthrough will be fully acknowledged,
Thank you,
Declan

I did some searching and found nothing conclusive. This guy doesn't seem to be working backwards from ALI. The last concrete information (even the family trees for ALI don't have any documentation) is a census for 1920 Hopkins Co., for John L. GRADY and his wife Berdie MOREHEAD. These were ALI'S grandparents. The parent's of John L. GRADY are unknown except for oral family history. This states that John's father was Abe/Abraham GRADY. His father may be a John GRADY who came from Ireland. Abe is supposed to be illegitimate according to an interview with Muhammed ALI some years ago. Berdie MOREHEAD was in Logan County in 1900 with her parent's Thomas B. MOREHEAD and Lizzie. I would think that the John L. GRADY would have to have been in one of these counties to hook up with Berdie MOREHEAD in around 1915. The man who wrote the initial query has since sent another to the KYJEFFER list thanking people and seems to have given up looking. I don't think he has asked around enough. Anyone out there want to give it a look?

Margaret

Donald, I am researching the Wier Family also. This is an entry I added to the TODD County board.

In going back through some old boxes I found a Family Sheet sent to me some time back. The person that sent it to me was not connected to the Weir's but she had been given this information by someone else. She cautions that this information has not been verified by her. It has the Children named under William Weir as Telamicis Weir, Rev., Margaret G. Weir, Elizabeth Wier, Mary Wier and James Harrison Weir. Some of the information provided on this family sheet came from a booklet, "Footprints" Houston Co. Tx - "History of Ky - 2nd Edition by Perrin & Battalle, pg 803 William H. Weir born Hopkins Co. April 26, 1851 second children of James H. and Mildred (thompson) William Weir's grandfather (William Weir) came with his parents to U.S. and settled in SC wshere he married and in the latter part of the last century. Came to Todd Co. where he was a farmer and teacher. Died in Hopkins Co. 1835 age 65. James H. was born 5/31/1818, married 1849. Had five sons and 6 daughters. Member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Letters from Penny Breedlove and Mrs Ruth Ashby.

Recently I was sent a copy of a transciption of a letter from Rev Telemachus and his sister Lourenda Weir to what appears to be a brother, William Weir, living in Robertson County Tennessee.

Would you mind sharing the children you have identifed as being siblings to James Harrison. I am trying to verify the parents of Telemachus, Margaret G., Lourenda and Sally Ann Weir. I believe William was the father and there may have been multiple mothers.

Thanks

GLen
thezells@swbell.net

Thanks. This information on my line is taken fromt he document Our Weir Family, Three Generations.

Telemachus Weir was born in Kentucky on 2 Jan 1808. As with most families during this time period, there are gaps of time where it has been difficult to follow their exact movements. The difficulty in following the family could be due to movement during the time the census was taken or his name is misspelled, etc. His given name was a very unusual name. The name is from Greek Mythology. Telemachus is a central figure in Homer’s Odessey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telemachus) I have not found anyone else (outside this line of the Weir Family) with the same first name. It has been spelled Telemachus, Telemochus Telemacher Telamicus. Due to the complexity of his name he was often referred to as T Weir or Rev. T. Weir/Wier. Telemachus Weir was a minister with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a compassionate person who worked to help the Presbyterian church advance. (See letter, later in this document, to William Weir, written in 1851.) There is some belief that after their father’s death two of the younger sister’s moved to Illinois with T and his sister Margaret. I believe that Telemachus, Margaret Gordon, Sarah Ann and Lorenda Weir were siblings. This belief is based on information they moved during the same periods to Illinois and then to Texas. Margaret named her first son Telemachus Weir Wade. After Sally’s husband died in Texas she moved to Johnson County and listed next to The Telemachus Weir family on the 1860 Census.

I have chosen to use the spelling Telemachus because his sister, Margaret, named her first son Telemachus Weir Wade after Rev T. and this is the spelling used for their son’s name. It is also found spelled this way on Land Patent Records for Illinois. The family was educated as was most minister’s families during this time period. From the letter at the bottom of this document you can see the level of writing ability CC Weir, first born of Telemachus Weir, exhibited and from this it can be presumed that most of the children had extensive schooling.

I have been provided information that indicates his parents were William Weir, Jr and Sarah Gregory and grandparents were William Weir and Susannah Miller. Also the information indicated Margaret and T are children of William and Sarah along with James Harrison. I also have in my possession a transcripton of a letter written by Telemachus and Lorenda Weir to William Weir of Robertson County Tennessee. After reading the letter several times several of us have come to the conclusion they must have been cousins and not brothers. William named one of his sons, David Telamicus so that would indicate they were close relatives or at least close friends. It is my belief that Telemachus, Margaret G., Lourenda, Sally Ann and are siblings. Is this the same family to which James Harrison Wier belongs? Some believe that it is. Does this mean that William Weir was married before Sarah Gregory? Another question remains. Margaret’s middle name is Gordon. This would lead me to believe she is connected to William and Sarah Gregory. Sarah’s mother’s name was Margaret Gordon.

The interesting or confusing issue remains. There are several William Weir’s in Kentucky at this time. One lived in Henderson County and the other lived in Muhlenberg County. Henderson County’s northern line is connected to the state of Illinois. Muhlenberg is south of Henderson. They are in the same general area of Kentucky and only one county separates these counties. Are these families connected?

Per the Census below, in 1810 there was 1 male under the age of 10 and 1 16-25. If this is indeed all the children at home William Weir would have been 14 and Telemachus would have been 2. Margaret would have been 8 years of age. There is another female 10-15 years of age. The other female could have been Mary or Elizabeth, other children which are thought to be a part of the William Weir family. Again I am have not been able to confirm they are all part of the same immediate family. Another piece of information that could tie the families together. The four Weir's that moved to Illinois in the 1830-1832 time period would have moved about the time of the death of William Weir. Was this a coincidence or is there a connection? Many questions remain unanswered.

Additional work needs to be done to confirm that William and Sarah are the parents of these families but it is my belief at this time they is a strong connection between families. I believe William Weir of Robertson County Tennessee is not a brother to Telemachus. In the letter from T to William of Robertson County he mentions that his father was a Mason. If they were brothers I would assume William would have been aware of this bit of information and T would not have included it in his letter. From what I have been able to gather, Margaret Gordon Weir, Lourenda Weir and Sally Ann Weir were sisters to Telemachus. All four Weir’s lived in Todd/Logan County Kentucky prior to moving to Pike County Illinois. Every indication is they arrived in Illinois sometime in the early 1830-1833. Later they would move to Texas. Noble and Margaret and David and Sally together to Navarro County Texas. Telemachus and family would arrive a few years later. Margaret G. Weir married Noble Wade 7 Oct 1831 in Todd County Kentucky. Sally Ann Weir married David Mize 8 Sep 1842, Pike County Illinois. During the 1850 Census Sally and two children were living next to Margaret G. and Noble Wade in Navarro County. By the time of the 1860 Census Sally had moved her family to Johnson County and is living next to Rev T Weir and family. Margaret died in Navarro County in 1858. On the 20 Sep 1860 Noble Wade married Sally Ann Weir Mize in Johnson County and she moved to Navarro County where she and Noble would live until they moved to Tehuacana to be near his son Telemachus Weir Wade. In the history of Navarro of County it is stated that Noble and Sally moved to Tehuacana, Limestone County in 1872. However, the couple and two children, son Noble Jasper, a young girl they were raising, Josephean Mabry, were living in Navarro County at the time of the 1880 Census. Noble died in Tehuacana in 1887 and is buried in the Tehuacana Cemetery. Son Newton Jasper would become a lawyer and practice law in Navarro County, Bosque County and later Tarrant County.

He lived in Ashbysburg from about 1848 to 1874, then made his home in Hanson for a few years, afterward moving to Nebo where he lived until stricken with paralysis and rendered unable to remain in business. His last years have been spent with his children, principally in Lebanon, under whose watchful care he passed the last hours of his long and peaceful life. His loving children in Kentucky and Tennessee have so smoothed the pathway of his affliction that, possessed with the unshaken consciousness of a well spent life, it may be said the last years of this dear old gentleman were his best.
He married Miss Mildred THOMPSON of the Ashbysburg country in 1848. Their long and happy union was blessed with twelve children, eleven of whom are living. There were six boys and six girls. The mother of this family of most exemplary children died some years ago. The children now living are Mr. W.H. WEIR, Mrs. W.D. BROWN and Mr. L.L. WEIR, of Hanson, Ky.; Mrs. E.C. MORROW, Nebo, Ky., Mrs. R.L. BONE and Mrs. Emerson HILL, of Madisonville, Ky.; Prof. E. J.T. RANDOLPH, pastor of the M.E. Church, South, Tuesday morning, June 1st, at 11 o'clock and there the worn and tired body of this good man was laid to rest. He had been sick for some time and his friends and relatives were not unprepared for the shock. Mr. WEIR was for many years a citizen of Hopkins county, and many years ago was engaged in merchandising and in the tobacco business at Ashbysburg and later at Nebo. For some time he had been out of business, and at the time of his death was living with a son at Lebanon, Tenn. He was the father of W.H. and Lonie WEIR, of Hanson, Mrs. Dr. Bob BONE and Mrs. Em HILL, of Madisonville; Mrs. Dave MORROW, of Nebo; Prof. Edward, Robert and Miss Annie WEIR and Mrs. Bob ROBERTSON, of Lebanon. All of these children are living and all have reached manhood and womanhood. Mr. WEIR was just 79 years of age the day he died. He had for many years been a consistent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. He was regarded by all as being a most excellent and upright gentleman. His wife died perhaps twenty years ago, since which time he has made his home with his children. The remains was shipped from Lebanon to Hanson where they arrived last night at midnight. Today the body will be taken to the cemetery at New Salem where it will be interred by the side of other loved ones who have gone before. (Source: Madisonville (Ky.) WEIR was born in Hopkins County, Ky., April 26, 1851, and is the second of twelve children born to James
H. and Mildred J. (Thomson) Weir; the former a native of Todd County, Ky., and the latter a native of the "Old Dominion",
and of German and English descent, respectively. When a boy, William Weir, the grandfather of our subject, came with his
parents to the United States, and settled in South Carolina, where he was educated and married. In the latter part of the last
century he moved to Todd County, Ky., where he was engaged in farming and teaching all his life. During his latter years,
however, he retired from active business, and lived with his daughter in Hopkins County, where he died in 1835, in his
sixty-fifth year. James H. Weir was born May 31, 1818. At the age of eighteen he was employed as a salesman in a dry goods
house at Madisonville, where he remained four years. He then taught for a year, after which he was engaged in the dry goods
trade at Ashbysburgh for thirty years, with the exception of two years, when he was engaged in farming. In 1874 he removed
to Hanson, where he was engaged in merchandising and the tobacco trade for three years. In 1879 he moved to Nebo, where
he has since had charge of a store and the tobacco business for his sons. He was postmaster at Ashbysburgh for some twenty
years, and was also a magistrate for several years. He was married in 1849, and eleven children--five sons and six daughters--
have been left to him. He is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church
South. From early manhood he has been a member of the Masonic fraternity, and was for several years W. M. of his lodge. He
is a Democrat in politics, and is one of the old business men and respected citizens of the county. William H. Weir was
employed in his father's store and tobacco factory until he was twenty years old. In January, 1872, he took charge of his
father's store and tobacco business at Hanson, which he continued to manage until September, 1876. He then engaged in
merchandising and the tobacco trade at the same place on his own account, and has continued with good success ever since.
During a part of this time his brother, James L., was in partnership with him in both branches of business. His tobacco
stemmery at Hanson is the finest and largest in the place, and he probably handles more tobacco than any other dealer in that
part of the country. In August, 1884, he sold his interest in the store at Hanson, and bought his brother's interest in a store at
Nebo, where he is also engaged in the tobacco trade. For the past thirteen years he has been both postmaster and express
agent at Hanson, and for five years was also agent of the Louisville & Nashville Railway at the same place.
My notes indicate that William H. Stanley appears in the 1805 tax records for Muhlenberg County KY. He is the son of Moses Stanley (and Dorcas Croom) of NC and had son(s) John b. ca 1780 (who married Nancy Garris and possibly James b, ca 1778 (who married Clara Garris).
Also in the Muhlenberg tax records appear the following Stanleys: Spencer, Lamuel, Stephen, William, and John. Not sure of their relationship.
My interest is in the Stanleys in Christian County: there is a John Stanley in tax records (probably born ca 1780). Also interested in James Stanley (who married Hester Teague in Christian County); their eldest son was named "John Council Stanley." Council was a family name passed down through at least three generations) ; since it's not a family name in the Teagues side, I'm assuming it comes from the Stanley side (.
