I'm looking for information concerning my g-great grandfather, George W. Montgomery, who had been married to Amanda Bedford and were originally from Galena, Illinois. They had gone out to Grass Valley, California in the late 1870s and had returned east sometime after 1880 where George passed away in Henderson, KY, in August of 1887. Amanda's obit in Neillsville, WI stated that he died on their farm in Henderson, KY on August 31, 1887, at the age of 45 years.
Amanda and the children, William, Maude, and Mollie, moved to Wisconsin a couple years after his death, eventually residing in Neillsville. I would be interested in the location of their farm in Henderson. He had previously been both miner and with his father, a brick maker.

I would like to hear from you who are researching families descended from either Doak or Robert Pruitt. I have attached to this message additional surname that have extensive coverage in my book. There are others, but they are too numerous to name. If you have information about any descendants, please contact me. I'd like this book to be as complete as possible. I won't include the names of any living family or those who are under 90 years old. I'm particularly interested in family stories. They flesh out an individual in a way mere vital statistics never can.

Joan , are you still looking for Andrew Fisher? As I mentioned once before I have a Henry (Merritt) Fisher in Henderson County in 1880. You mentioned a listing of marriages in Henderson County-- can you quote the entry that mentions H. Fisher? Maybe I can help. The Henry Fisher I am thinking of was born in Franklin County in 1845.

Doak & Robert Pruitt & allied families

I’m currently compiling a book titled, The Pruitts of Henderson County, Kentucky, and Allied Families. It will include everything I can find on Doak Pruitt (ca 1775 in Granville Co., NC-ca 1833 in Henderson Co.) and Robert Pruitt (ca 1791 in NC-1825 in Henderson Co.) and their descendants up to, but not including those who may be living. For many of the individuals it will include birth, marriage and death records, tax records, wills, inventories, and family stories. It will be fully indexed and include maps and pictures. I need your help if you have researched individuals related in any way to either Doak or Robert. Please share the details about your family that would enrich this family history. Any material you submit that is used in the book will be credited to you in a footnote.

The book is already over 180 pages long with over 1000 footnotes and will probably be about 300 pages when finished. It will be self-published in about a year and sold at cost to individuals who request a copy. It will be distributed free to genealogical libraries in Kentucky and other parts of the country. This is my fourth family history book. The other three, which are on other branches of my family, are in the Library of Congress, the DAR Library, Allen County Library, etc. This is my way of making available to future researchers the information I have gathered over many years. I hope you will contribute to this effort. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sandra W.
Patience Lawrence Barnhart Smith was the daughter of Adam Lawrence, who lived in Henderson County, Kentucky from abt 1796 until his death in 1800.

On 21 July 1800, Adam Lawrence prepared his will. It was recorded in October, and was filed in Will Book A for Henderson County, Kentucky. Charles Davis and Anthony Bennett were named executors. To his wife, Susannah, he left a bay gelding , $175.00, and one-third of his estate, and directed the same to be divided among his children after her decease. He left his son John the whole of his farming tools. He gave his son David, the youngest, two thirds of the tract of land he lived on, as well as a gray horse, his saddle and bridle, his clothing and rifle. To his son Adam, he left the remaining one third of the land he lived on and one cow and calf. To his youngest daughter Patience, yet unmarried, he left $125, two mare colts and two cows. He provided that neither David nor Adam could dispose of their share of the property without the consent of the other. He directed that the rest of his estate be equally divided among “the whole” of his children, John, William, George, Joseph, Adam, David, Ruth Clapp, Nancy Strater, Polly Haynes, Susannah Sprinkle and Patience. His witnesses were Jesse Kimball and Lawrence Roelosson Junr.

Susannah Lawrence, a sister of Patience, married John Sprinkle in Henderson County. They moved across the river in 1803 to found Sprinklesburg - later Newburg - in Warrick County, Indiana. John Sprinkle died before 15 Aug. 1822, when an auction of his things was held at his home [recorded in Book A2, pg. 72 in Warrick County Recorder's Office]. Listed among the buyers were an Ezekiel SMITH, Michael Sprinkle, and Susannah Sprinkle.

I believe it is likely that the name of Patience Lawrence's second husband was Ezekiel Smith. He was one of the buyers at the estate sale of John Sprinkle in 1822 and he was listed on the 1820 census for Warrick County, Indiana, residing two households down from John Sprinkle.

1820:	1820 U.S. Census/Warrick Co., Indiana:

Ezekiel Smith: 2m 10-16, 1m 26-45, 1m 45+, 1f 1-10, 1f 26-45

A list of property belonging to Estate of John Sprinkle, deceased. Sold at auction on 15th day August 1822.
Ezekiel Smith	1 shoemaker tools	1.00
Ezekiel Smith	6 chairs 2.12
Ezekiel Smith	1 cow 10.00
Ezekiel Smith	1 lot of barrels	1.00

I have extensive information on the family of Patience Lawrence and some contacts for the Smith/Lawrence family. I would be happy to share those if you would email me personally at rwhitzman@aol.com.

Does anyone on Henderson County do marriage lookups? The link on the Henderson Co. website is broken, and I have a few marriages that MAY have taken place there that I would like looked up. They are: William S Thompson, born about 1863(died before 1908); his brother Charles, born 1865, married Lula ???; and their sister Sallie, born about 1868, who married 1) unknown, married about 1888; and 2) George Smithhart around 1907. (Sallie's name was actually Maria, but I have never seen it written that way except for the 1870 and 1880 censuses.)
Thank you,
Peggy Ray

The father's name is not listed on the Kentucky Birth index.
I found he died 19 Sep 1997 and his obit from Henderson and it said he is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa. I did a search and if I have the right one it is owned by McLaren Funeral Home and the phone number is 515-223-1230. The cemetery or the funeral home might have who the parents are. If you would like what I found on the obit I can send you the link.

I did find that Arthur's mother was Helen Denton Greco Harms
and she died 12 Junw 2008 and is buried in Henderson County, Kentucky.

This is a GREAT post! Thanks for taking the time to write all this down. Patience Lawrence Barnhart Smith is my gggg Grandmother. She went on to the state of Missouri (still can't figure what happened to her second husband, last name Smith) and lived in Wayne County for many years, near her first son Henry Barnhart, as well as Alfred Smith and other family members. She had an affair at the age of 50 with a Major Richard Dickey Cowan, which beget my ancestor, Eliza Jane Smith. Eliza Jane married Jonas Myers, and he died in the Civil War. Their son, George Bolen Myers, married Virginia Tankersley. They had Vest Myers, who was the father of my grandmother, Mildred Elizabeth Myers. All in Wayne/Bollinger Counties of Missouri. My research has been focused on finding family lore around both Patience and R.D. Cowan, as well as trying to figure out who Smith was that she married, and what happened to him? Your post is fantastic! Thanks so much!!

I have an Elmo Sandefur, Sen., and an Elmo, Jr.
Elmo, Sen. was born 22 Nov 1897 and died 20 Nov 1956 in Daviess Co., KY. He was married to Sallie McElmore Sept 20, 1920 in Spencer Co., Indiana.
Elmo Jr. was born April 14, 1936 in Daviess Co. and married Gladys McCullough - don't have the date on that marriage.
Is the Elmo Jr. your father?
I have two children for him - Christa and Thomas Elmo Sandefur.
This Elmo, Jr. comes from the line of Samuel A. Sandefur, through his son, Alexander Hamlett Sandefur.

I am updating and redoing the Sandefur book, "They Crossed the Green River" that my mother and I did back in the 1980's, to be published hopefully in the latter part of 2010 (if all goes well). It was mainly about Samuel's lines, but had some of his siblings, also. I would like for any additions, corrections, comments, etc. you would like to give me for the book.

My email is:

gwillistree@yahoo.com

Glenda Willis
