A Green Co. woman was killed Wed. morning 4 Jul [1984] after being accidentally short with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle in the yard of her home. Authorities state Violet A. Huffman, 76, who lived near the Green/Hart county line on the Huffman Rd., off Hwy. 313, was found in her yard with a bullet lodged in the left side of her chest. Mrs. Huffman routinely used the rifle to shoot at groundhogs near her home, said authorities. Her body was found by her son, Vandall Huffman, at approximately 10 am. It was estimated she was killed at 6 am. After an investigation at the scene by Coroner Terry Price, Deputy Sheriff Harold Curry, and State Trooper Ronnie Moran, the body was removed to the Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton.
