Dr. Paul Gladstone Horner, special assistant to the president of Campbellsville College, died at I:32 am Fri. 29 Apr at Taylor Co. Hospital in Campbellsville after a short illness. He was 77. Horner, who taught thousands of students in his 32 year tenure at Campbellsville College, was a favorite professor in the Christian Studies area. He was wisely known throughout Ky. for his long-standing work for Baptist education and the denomination. In his position as special assistant to Davenport, Horner performed many duties pertaining to activities and persons inside and outside of Campbellsville College. Horner was honored in 1977 by the College’s Alumnae Association when the Paul G. Horner Scholarship Fund was established. The fund has grown and 8 students received scholarships from it for the 1982-83 school year. Horner’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to that scholarship fund at the College. Horner’s funeral was Sunday, 1 May at Campbellsville Baptist church where Horner was a member and interim pastor from Jul 1980 to March 1981. Dr. J. Chester Badgett, Dr. James E. Jones, Dr. W.R. Davenport and the Rev. L.M. Hamilton officiated. Burial was in Brookside Cem. in Campbellsville. Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville was in charge. Horner, who lived at 101 Underwood St., Campbellsville, is survived by his wife, Lillian Aileen Porter Horner, whom he married 23 Mar 1973; 1 son, Stephen G. Horner of Louisville; 1 grandson, Aaron Paul Horner; 1 brother, Charles W. Horner of Anderson, S.C. and 1 sister, Virginia Armstrong of Michigan City, Ind. He had a deceased sister, Sarah Eleanor Buchanan. Horner’s parents were the late Rev. W. W. and Verna Olivia Annatto Horner.
