Lelia Sanders Penick, 85, of Louisville, Ky., died on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at her home in Louisville. Daughter of the late John Paul Sanders and Mary Louise Coffey Sanders, she was born on July 8, 1918 in Taylor County, Ky. She was married to William C. Penick, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Shively Christian Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Judith Penick of Louisville; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha P. and Robert Lamkin of Louisville; four sisters, Marian Acree and her husband Ray of Greensburg, Dorothy Carle of Arkansas, Mary Lucy Slinker and Helen Lyons, both of Louisville; three grandchildren, Lisa Cassell and Robin Lamkin, both of Louisville, and Laura Polson of Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Devin Cassell, Daniel Cassell, Olivia Cassell, Brooke Hager, Morgan Polson, Joshua Polson, Leah Tarter and Rachel Lamkin. Funeral was on Friday, March 19 at the Owen Funeral Home in Louisville. The Rev. Rob Gandi and the Rev. Mark Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens. Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg was in charge of local arrangements.
