John Edward Flinn, born March 28, 1842 in County Wexford, Ireland, died February 23, 1917 at the National Military Home near Dayton, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Civil War, being a Pvt/Cpl. in the 18th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, Co. B., USA, and also Regimental Color Escort. After the war he was a farmer, living in the Stewartsville, Heekin and Lusby's Mill areas most of his life. John married Nancy Ann Mitts, daughter of Estill and Sarah Wilson Mitts, February 27, 1866 in Grant County. They had nine children: John Edward Jr., Leonard, Festus, Robert, Charlie, Sallie, Annie, Nettie and Jim. Nancy was born December 3, 1841 and died December 3, 1912. Both are buried in the Grassy Run Cemetery in Grant County, Ky.
