I am trying to research Reverand John Sheppard, my great-great grandfather, and find his parents. The information that I have on him comes from a biography I found at the Scioto County Genealogical Website. It states that he was born August 6, 1844 in Floyd Kentucky. He came to Scioto Ohio when he was 15. He married Eliza Jane Brown on May 10, 1866 and had several children: George Wesley, Lilly D., Sarah June, Emma Lois and William James. My Uncle remembers a story about John, that he was an indentured servant brought over from England and that he swam the Ohio river to escape his master. Now, I don't know if that is true, but if it is then he could have lied about his origins to prevent recapture. Does any of this ring a bell for anyone?
