To answer your questions: I do not know Margarets last name and Carl was unable to unearth it in 40 years of research. Carl believes that they did live in Virginia and that their first two children were born there. Margaret is not on the register of the ship that Jacob arrived on. According to Carl, Ransom Hoots owned a small farm in Cumberland County that, in 1991, was owned by Kentucky Parks. The farm is located just north of Hollow Dam, TN.

I don't know where Jacob came from in Germany but that is my main item of research. Back in November 97 Lian Thomas, whom you may know, asked me if it was Zschnernitzch, Germany. At the time I didn't know but recently located that town near Liepzig. I asked Lian where she got that lead but she never answered, If you know her, please tell her to contact me at rhoots@erols.com.

If there are any left, you can get a copy of Carl's book by sending a check made out to Carl Hoots, to Dan Hoots, 424 E. Lee Ave, Yadkinville, NC 27055, with a note saying you want a copy of "Descendants of Jacob Hoots." Carl is incapacitated but his son, Dan, is handling the book.
