Robin,

I came across this older posting, and to be truthful, I don't remember if either one of us ever followed up on it, so here goes.

You stated in your reply that you "have his first wife as Phoebe Ann McGinnis ( my great-great-great Grandmother)".

I have Nathan and his first wife as possibly Phoebe Ann McGinnis also, my Nathan and his first wife had 5 children together, I will list them here and if any of the names ring a bell, we may have a family connection.

They are as follows:

Mary Jane b. abt.- 1829
William J (Henry) b. abt. - 1831
Phoebe Ann b. abt. - 1833
Lewis W. b. abt. - January 1835
Susan F. b. abt. - 1838

I am assuming because your last name is Martin, if anything it would have to be either William or Lewis that is your Great Grandfather. If so, this would be great, nothing makes me happier than finding "new" family. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Wayne Martin

Does anyone have access to any church records of Clark Co. for the period 1790 - 1840?

I'm looking for any record that might give me any information on Lucretia Duncan, born around 1810. She may have belonged to the Baptist denomination.

Also looking for information on Enoch Hampton, who married Lucretia Duncan in 1831. Not sure what denomination he might have belonged to.

Thanks for your help!

Martin and Anni Boni Judy are my 5th Great Grand Parents. My lineage is posted at ancestry.com. I am considering applying for DAR membership under this paternal line or my maternal Woodward line. I am also interested in information about the David Judy farm and life there prior to the relocation to Audrain County MO. A great aunt passed on her memories of her grandmother, Susan Elizabeth Staples, who retained her Southern loyalties until the end of her years and told granddaughter Frances to always remember shewas Judy from Bourbon County, Kentucky.

John William Dawson married Mary Olds in Clark County, Melissa Jane Dawson married/1 Tinsley Snelson 25 Dec 1832, married/2 William Wess Dawson 24 Nov 1846 born in Woodford County, both marriages in Owen County, Ky, and Merritt Dawson married Emarine Snelson Owen County. John William the bondsman for both of Melissa's marriages. I need parentage and relationships with these 4 Dawsons. All in Owen County by 1841 and died there. Would like to know if these two Dawson families are related. Melissa is my huge brick wall. Will share info. Judy Estes Lawrence

I am also a descendant of Thomas Hooten and have been to Hootentown twice. It's just steep road with one or two residences on it. I asked at the libraries in the vacinity, but no one seemed to have information on it. As you approach the road, there's a very old stone wall leading to it. I thought they might have been built by slaves, but an historian told me they sounded like walls Irish settlers built. When driving up the road, there's a very clear No Trespassing sign. I never had the guts to go past it.

I hope we can solve this mystery someday. Sounds as if very well could have been land owned by Thomas. It's just northeast of Boonesborough. Also, there's an odd barn or out building in the middle of a field that looks as if it used to be part of the property. If you would like pictures, I have a few, but they don't show much

Denise Tanner
djtann10@gmail.com

Bittle/Biddle Family in Clark Co.

I am trying to find any members of the Bittle/Biddle family. First know member was Calep Biddle who married Sarah Cummins Sept. 1, 1814 in Clark Co. They relocated to Bracken Co. by 1840. Looking for ANY family members who may have stayed in Clark Co. Spellings of this name can be: Bittle, Biddle, Bedwell, Bidwell, Beedle, Bedweel (they were very creative!) The oldest child I can find (on 1850 Bracken census) is Thomas who was born in 1830. Since they were married in 1814, it seems logical that they had older children who may have stayed in the Clark Co. area. If anyone can help I would truly appreciate it!!

Lewis Duncan and Harriet Kincaid - Lewis Possibly Son of Joseph Who Settled in Clark About 1792?

Does anyone know if the Lewis Duncan (born abt 1772), who married Harriet Kincaid, was the son of Joseph Duncan and Nancy Stevens, who married in Orange Co., VA in May 1772 and moved to Clark Co., KY around 1792?

Joseph Duncan made his son, Lewis, an executor of his will, along with his brother, Cary K. Duncan, and his mother, Nancy. He also authorized Cary and Lewis to sell his slaves whenever they thought it necessary. Joseph had other sons. You would usually expect the eldest to be made executor. I wonder if the fact that both Cary and Lewis were chosen indicates that they were twins?

If the Lewis who married Harriet Kincaid was not the same person as Lewis, son of Joseph, can someone tell me what became of the Lewis who was the son of Joseph?

There are some deeds of Lewis in Clark Co., but I don't have access to them.

Are there any descendants out there? Any info anyone?

Thanks!

I'm descended from the Stones.

My tree shows Bettie Stone (b. Jul 1877 d ?) daughter of Berry Stone (1850-1920) and Telitha Diantha G. White Stone (1852-1926). Diantha White's parents were William White (1811-1878) and Elizabeth H. Osborne (1817-1896).

Berry's father was also named Berry Stone (1804- ? never returned from taking mules to New Orleans in 1857) and his mother was Sarah Sallie Finnell. Sallie Finnell's parents were John Finnell (1778-1813) listed on Ft. Boonesboro monument and Catherine Catie Surrey (1778-1860).

The senior Berry Stone's father was Thomas Stone and mother unknown.

The only info I have on L.D. Boone is b. 1870 and the marriage to Bettie Stone ca. 1907.

My grandparents were Mary Boone and Ed Crowe. My mother, their daughter, often talked about this Bible. She told me who had it but I can't remember the name. She died in 2002. I would like very much to see it. I look forward to knowing who now has it.

P.S. I believe this connection makes your mother and my mother cousins.

The last time I was in Winchester, April 2006, the small cometary was not in very good shape. I took a video of graves and I think Some photos too. I'll look for them.
Jeni,

Thank you so much for the offer. Right now I only know of 3 people that are related to me in that cemetery. Nancy Brookshire Brock is my 2nd great grandmother. Aaron Adams was one of her husbands, not my direct relation and Catherine Gravett Brookshire was Nancy's mother. Did you by chance see a stone for Hampton Brookshire? I can not find a date of death, death certificate or anything on him. I was hoping that since he was mentioned on the head stone and she is listed as widow on her death certificate that perhaps they were buried close together. All 3 of their headstones are on find a grave ( thanks by the way for taking the time to put them up there)but I do not take them from the site without permission. My email is familyresearch2013@gmail.com. Thanks again for responding.

Hi Jeni!

Oh my gosh, I was so happy to get your message! I have found James' parents and siblings and even his granparents, which I hope is all accurate info. So here is what I have found:

James Madison Hall
b: 2 May 1833 Winchester, Clark, KY
d: 10 Feb 1899 Hoopeston, Vermillion, IL
married Mary Elizabeth Silvers 1859 Koskiusko, IN

Parents:
Caleb Hall
b: 12 Jan 1804 Montgomery Co, KY
d: 28 March 1852 Powell Co, KY
Susan Daniel
b: 4 Nov 1806 Campbell Co, KY
d: 11 Jun 1880 ?

Caleb's Parents:
William Hall
b: 15 Nov 1756 Beford, Bedford, VA
d: 11 Feb 1811 Montgomery, KY
Urcilla Woodward
b: 1 May 1756 Bedford, Bedford, VA
d: 1854 Lombard, Powell, KY
(Wm's father was Leonard Hall born in Maryland, but died
29 Mar 1809 Glasgow, Barren, KY
And his mother was Johanna Polleckfield Letton born in Maryland and died 30 May 1820 in Glasgow, Barren KY)

Susan Daniel's (Caleb Hall's wife) Parents:
Enos Daniel
b: 4 Apr 1779 Campbell Co, KY
d: 6 Jun 1857 Campbell Co, KY
Mary Nelson
b: abt 1785 Campbell Co, KY
d: ?

I hope that's not too confusing. So hard to make sense of who's who without a tree! I'm hoping some of these folks will be known to you. I did read recently that William Hall was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine in the Revolutionary War. I believe he was shot in the knee... yikes! But truly, any tidbits you might have would be SO appreciated. Some of this info I'm sure I gleaned from other people's trees, which you know how shakey those facts can be. I do believe that things fit together pretty well, so am hoping these facts to be accurate.

At any rate, I sure appreciate you contacting me and helping me with this branch of the family tree. My maiden name was Hall, so this branch is particularly close to my heart!

Thank you SO MUCH!
Tricia
Hi there!

There are a LOT of Hall's in Winchester and the name James was extremely common. Do you have any idea what his parents names might have been? I have researched the Hall's in Winchester for nearly 20 years now, so I might be able to come up with something for you with a little more information.

Jeni

Hi there!

Your best bet would be to contact the Clark County Clerk's office in Winchester Kentucky. You should be able to google them for the address and phone number. They do have a LOT of marriage records, but I do not know if they have the one you are looking for. The County Clerk Should be able to tell you how to get a copy if it exists though.

Hope this helps!
Jeni

Hi there!

The Gravett Cemetery on Find A Grave is one that I documented for them a few years ago. It is located in Allansville and is interesting to get to. I no longer live in Clark County, or I would be more than happy to show you around at some point. I have the entire cemetery photographed, but due to photo theft from the users on Find A Grave, I have more or less stopped adding photos to sites. If you are looking for photos of specific graves, I will be more than happy to email them to you though.

Hope this helps,
Jeni

Hi there!

I'm not 100% sure but the only cemetery I know of that comes close to coinciding with Four Mile and Bybee is the Brade Thomas Graveyard. I do not know if these people are buried in that graveyard or not... it has been over 10 years since I visited the cemetery and I am not even sure who owns the property it is currently on anymore, though I believe it did belong to a lady who's name was either Aldridge or that was her maiden name.

Hope this helps!
Jeni

My great grandfather Samuel Thomas Hambrick was married to his first wife Madeline Alice "Mattie" Rohrer and they lived in Ford with their 4 children: Mary Belle, Jessie Lee, John Thomas, and James Dee Hambrick. They lost their son John Thomas about 1892 due to some childhood disease at the age of 4. Suffering great depression from the loss of her son, Mattie murdered her daughter Jessie Lee on 4 Mar. 1893 and attempted to kill herself a few days later. Mattie was committed to an insane aslyum. I am trying to find out where in Ford was Jessie Lee Hambrick (1 Sept. 1885 - 4 Mar. 1893) and her brother John Thomas Hambrick (7 Dec. 1888 - 1892) buried. I haven't found a cemetery in Ford which might lists them. Does anyone know of a cemetery in or near Ford which may have these children?

These obituaries have provided a lot of information that would have taken me a lifetime to find.

Joseph had another daughter named Nancy, or Nannie. It appears that she may have died early in life as she was not mentioned in Joseph or Sarah's obituary. She was probably named after my great-grandmother who was also named Nancy.

Ledford who was the informant on the mother's death certificate-in 1930's Fed Census, George W. and Alene (so I believe the Allen in 1900 census is actually Allene) age 34 living in Kenton, Covington,KY with a son named Joseph Ledford age 6. Have her date of death also, I can check some local (near Lexington obits if you need me too, or if I have caused confusion in the previous post with overwhelming information)please just message me through Ancestry if needed.
