I'm seeking information about Daniel MARTIN and Margaret GRAY MARTIN. They were originally from Christian County, KY but had moved to Crawford County, IL by 21 September 1819 because their daughter Abrilla Martin was born there on that date. Thanks for your help.

Could your Margaret Gray Martin have been the daughter of John Gray and Mary Reaburn who married in Greenbrier County VA (WV) in 1791? This line of Grays moved to the Christian/Twigg County area before moving into southern Illinois

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LIVE IN HOPKINSVILLE AND WILL GO TAKE A LOOK AT THE WILL. I AM ALSO RELATED TO THE RAGERS ON BOTH SIDES OF MY FAMILY. FOUR OF MY GREATS WERE CHILDREN OF JOHN U RAGER AND MILBERRY THROES. SO I AM SURE I AM RELATED TO JANE TO. I HAVE A LOT OF THE RAGER HISTORY I AM JUST STARTING THE MARTIN LINE. DRUSCILLA MARRIED JOSEPH PERRY AND THEIR DAUGHTER RUTH JANE MARRIED MY GG-GRANDFATHER JOHN U RAGER JR. I DID FIND AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT THE MARTINS. THEY SUPPOSEDLY CAME FROM FRANCE IN 1728 ON A SHIP THEY SAILED THEMSELVES. THOMAS IS THE SON OF JOHN WHO WAS 105 WHEN HE DIED AND WAS A HERO OF THE REVOLUTION WAR. DO YOU KNOW OF THIS

Jane is the daughter of JOHN U RAGER AND MILBERRY THROES. I suspect that makes us cousins for sure! The part about the Martin's sailing from France in 1728 was not known by me. I found one account that said that John Martin fought in the French & Indian War and was a native of Ireland coming to America in 1755. This info came from a biography of the Martin family in one of Christian County's biography books. John Martin, Jr. could have fought in the Revolutionary War.

I LOVE DOING GENEALOGY. I MEET FAMILY EVERYWHERE. MY MARTIN INFO SUPPOSEDLY CAME FROM A BOOK CALLED"OUR CRAWFORD CO, IL HERITAGE. I FOUND IT AT ROOTSWEB AT THE MARTIN MAILING LISTS. IT SAID JOHN DIED AT 105 IN GA AND HE FOUGHT IN THE CHEROKEE WAR AND WAS HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A TOMAHAWK AND THEN FOUGHT IN THE REV WAR TO. HE DID HAVE A SON JOHN WHO MOVED TO CRAWFORD WITH HIS BROTHER THOMAS. I AM GOING RESEARCHING THE LIBRARY TOMORROW.

John,

I am also descended from Daniel Martin and his first wife through their daughter, Abrilla. Abrilla was my gg grandmother. She married John/Jehu/Jahue Thomas who may have been born in Christian County in 1809. He also ended up in Crawford County, IL. They were married in Jasper County, IL in 1838. Two of her half sisters also married into the Thomas family.

Who do you think the John and Abrilla mentioned in Thomas's will were?

Daniel was one of the first settlers in what became Crawford County and Martin Township is named after him.

Do you know anything about the Thomas family in Christian County?

Diana,

I am descended from Abrilla Martin, daughter of Daniel Martin and his first wife, Margaret Gray/Grey. Abrilla was born in Crawford County, IL.

She married John/Jehu Thomas who I believe was born in 1809 in Christian County, KY. They were married in 1838 in Jasper County, IL.

Do you know anything about the Thomas family in Christian County?

Also, there are a lot of connections with Higgins, Attaway and Dunlap families for the other side of my family - the Coxes. I know that the Cox family left NC in the mid-1830's. But some families from Pitt County, NC came through Indiana or Kentucky first.

I'd love to share information.
