This story is based on facts , not fiction !!
Peggy Hammons married Squire Hollandsworth 1847 ,14, Oct , Age: 37.
This is the first information I can find on her .

They lived together a few years (as found in Pikeville Kentucky Census 1850 ) and Squire brought in Elizabeth Lundsford and her baby to live with them.

Peggy had son Wesley ( Joseph ??) and was pregnant again when she packed up and hired her a wagon to take her to Scott County Virginia . I think she may have had family there ??

She , Wesley and Elizabeth were found in the 1860 Census for Scott County , Virginia .

She and Wesley were together during the Civil War Period . The soldiers would come by and take anything they could use . He told stories of how they hid their food by pulling up boards in the floor and putting it in tin buckets with lids and hanging it on the house joist .

After that there is no more info to be found on her Elizabeth or Wesley until his marriage to Elizabeth Ramey on Dec 25-1886 Blountville Tennessee .

Wesley grew up as Hammonds and never used the Hollandsworth or Hollands name after Squire had his name changed .

On his death certificate he is listed as Squire Hollandsworth and Peggy Hammonds son.

Squire divorced Peggy in 1855 and married Elizabeth Lundsford . So apparently Peggy left for a good reason .

The divorce accused her of adultery but she never had another man in Virginia .

She fed her family by washing for other people . She would go down to the river rain , snow or Summer and build a fire and carry water from the river and heat it and wash all day . Bring the cloths home and hang them on the line and then iron them with coal stove irons as soon as they were dry . I don't know what happened to her after 1860 for I have found no other information .

I'm not sure who her parents were or if she was born in Kentucky or Virginia ??
Wesley stated in 1920 Census for Va. That he and his mom were both born in Ky .

She was 37 when she married Squire so it is possible she was married before ??

I did find where Squire was accused of adultery in Kentucky Court Records .
He had some one pay his fine .
He never even showed up to face them in court ,

Story written by great grand daughter Sarah Collins .

I don't mind you using this story but please do not change the words
and give me credit as writer ??
