It was just a stab in the dark. None of the descendents of Willey Elmey have any hint either. She was sister to my ggp Noble Johnson.

No Jacob in Christian County in my lines. My John T.
is a possibility, but that was not his wife's name.
SORRY!!

Is there a John or Jacob Baker married to Willey Elmey Johnson in Christian Co or any other place before about 1810? She died before her father's estate was probated in 1823 in Cape Girardeau Co MO, but the family did live in CC county around 1808 and 1810 because two of her brothers were married in CC about 1808 and her father (David) was in the 1810 CC census. The brothers were Davis and William.

Based on the ages of the children born to Willey Elmey (could have been Wilhemena?) She was married before about 1804.

As far as I can detect all my Johnsons left Christian County by 1812 or so. At least they all seem to be accounted for in David Johnson's estate papers filed in Cape Girardeau Co MO in 1823 though two or three were or had been in Arkansas. Most were in Cape Girardeau, Perry, Madison, or Bollinger Co MO.

I believe the odds are high that some children were left behind in Christian County cemeteries, and there indeed are a large number of Johnsons especially at the Johnson Baptist Church, but the cemetery book I've seen has no family links.

The Oxley name doesn't fit any Johnson that I know of.

I do know about dead ends, my ggggp David Johnson is my dead end. Two sons were married in Christian Co about 1808 (William and Davis) and that's the earliest I can place the clan's location. They seem to have been counted as one large family in the 1810 Christian Co census even though at least two sons were married.

According to the statistics of the US 1790 census there were 10,600 individuals counted in those 12 states with the surname Johnson, 11,000 named Jones and 21,000 named Smith which does make finding the right Oxley Johnson and Millie E. Jones a lot different than finding Oxley Harbunkle and Millie E. Southerland. When searching for Johnsons we have to accept a lot of information that is not of value in order to sort for our Johnsons. Its like a secondary sort based on the given names where the internet lists are based strictly on surname. I sometimes wish for there to be subdivisions of the Johnson lists by given name. May have to organize something like that sometime.

Well, Gerald...

Thanks for your response and "confirmation" that we are probably not of the same or similar branch of that
Redwood-esque Johnson tree. I am in complete agreement re the need for a means to do subdivision searches for given names and the like in surnames which have so many of us. While various sites have search capabilities for this word and/or that, it never seems to be quite what is needed. Hope you work that one out for us.

Thanks again for your info. I had hoped you would say your Johnsons went to Scott Co. or Harrison Co., MO, where some of mine went. But, that would be too easy. Take care and I appreciate your time and effort.

Hello Margaret,

I will not say that we have no connection, because I cannot tell. But, here are my names and locations in TN & MO:

Oxley Johnson(Sr.) md Catherine/Catey Rogers in Roane Co., TN. Found on a loose piece of paper.

In 1850 Barren Co., KY census they and eight of their nine children are listed at same location.

The other child, John, md Martha J. Clark in 1846. Have not found them anywhere.

Oxley Johnson, Jr mvd to Harrison Co., MO after Civil War. Later mvd to Neodesha, Wilson Co., KS. Died there.

Also after Civil War, son James mvd to Morley, Scott Co., MO. Later mvd to Neodesha also. Died there.

These are the major players that I am aware of.
