I'm trying to find out if an obituary notice is available for Nina M. Linn (Mrs. John M. Linn), who died Dec. 4, 1976 in Murray, KY. Would like to get a copy of the obituary notice if available. I have found a little more. Julia Milam married John Robert Clark 1/2/1881 in Henry county, TN. Julia mother was Louise J. Garrison, father was Hiram Milam. Julia was born in Stewart County, TN, 1855, Died Calloway county, KY July 19, 1936.

Most of her life was in Murray Kentucky, but did live in Paducah, for a time. She never married. and worked for the Board of Education.

I have John Robert Clark married Julia C. Milam, January 2nd 1881. They were my grand father's grand parents. I don't have much else on them except their children, most of them I knew.

The Calloway County circuit court records for the 1850's and 1860's were destroyed by fire in 1886. As a result, no official record of this divorce is likely to exist.

Thank you for contacting me about the WATERS family. I have been trying to identify the parents of my grandfather, JOHN McNAMARA, who was born in Lexington KY on 30 Apr 1884.

Our family story is that he was "orphaned at an early age" and raised by "Aunt Laura and Uncle Will" (no surname) in/near Eaton, Preble Co OH.

On Social Security form he completed in 1936, John said his father was "Frank McNamara" and mother was "Mary".

While searching each individual household on the 1900 Preble Co OH census, I found a William Waters living with his sister, Laura Waters Hubbell -- both born in KY.

I tracked back to KY and located the family of John J. Waters -- 1880 Calloway Co KY census lists John's widow Susan with daughter Mary 20 and son Will 9.

It's a LONG shot in the dark, but I am trying to determine if Mary could possibly be the mother of my grandfather, John McNamara.

Please check the file to determine if the son "Will" might have moved from KY and was in Preble Co OH around 1880. The William D. Waters that I located in Eaton was still living there in 1910. Thank you.

I am in search of Cora Alta Lewis, born 1883 in Missouri, who married Charles Emmett Edwards, born 1879 Lee County, VA, died Feb. 1920 Nodaway County, Missouri.
After Emmett's death, Cora Alta and children-Ross L., G. Howard and Virginia P., moved to Des Moines, Iowa.
I have lost track of the family after 1930. While doing an online search I found the following listing for Calloway County, Kentucky:

Cora Alta Edwards death 17 Aug. 1974.

Is there anyone out there who can verify whether or not this is the Cora Alta that I am looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Colonel Crawford was predeceased by two wives, Geraldine of 45 years and Elizabeth of 16 years. He is survived by his son Andrew Crawford (Mary Jo), Stone Mountain, GA, his daughter Phyllis C. Seeking information on the parentage and family of THOMAS MARION JONES (ca. 1809 – 1877), who was County Judge for Calloway County in the 1860-70 period; he was also for a time a senator or representative in the Kentucky legislature. He is in the 1850, 1860, 1870 Calloway, KY censuses in the City of Murray.

I understand that there is a write-up on this family starting on page 62 of the book: “The Joneses of Kentucky’s Calloway and Marshall Counties, 1820-1910,” but, being far removed from Kentucky, I doubt seriously that I will be able to obtain a copy of this scarce book. If someone could do a look-up, I would be most appreciative.

Can someone tell me where I can get an obit or newspaper article on the deaths of my cousins Melvin, Beth and daughter Penny Oliver. They are buried in New Providence Cemetery in Calloway Co. KY. Their deaths was a tragidy. It should have been in the newspapers. They all died on Jun. 11, 1969 during their vacation. Any help would be appreciated

Kelly....Do you still do look-ups? I'm working on proofs for my DAR application, and I need to know the following information:

Marriage date of Samuel Richard Graves and Eliza Paschall -- I believe they married in 1859 in Calloway Co.

I also need their death dates if possible -- They were both listed on the 1870 census in Calloway Co., but I couldn't find them on the 1880 census, either in KY or in Texas where many of their children had moved.

Thanks so much in advance! If you have to go to the courthouse to look these up, do you/can you make "certified" copies? If so, how much per copy?

The information I have is that Ridley Morgan is my GGgrandfather and his son Robert Austin Morgan obviously would be my Ggrandfather and father of my grandfather James Curd Morgan(12/23/1883-4/1/1971) of Benton, Ky. However from the Marshall County, Ky Census of 1850 it reflects Ridley as 42 years of age,therefore being born in 1808 or 1807. He was married to Lucy Morgan. Maybe there is a different Ridley Morgan. Can you shed some more light on this please? By the way James Curd's wife was Safrony Ann Parks from Callaway County, Ky.

I see that you are doing work in the family of Holt. I am interested in Andrew Jackson Holt who married Sarah Dotson. They married in 1849. They had children Euen, Solon, Anna, Ira, Lake, Lucy, Ollie. Then there was a William Tally Holt, son of Narcissus Dotson and Thomas Holt. My mother, MaryFrank Ward Cooper, was the daughter of Winston Otis Ward and Rubye Daily Ward. W.O. Ward was the son of Rufus Ward and Dora Waterfield Ward. Dora Waterfield was the daughter of Winston Monroe Warterfield. W.M. Warterfield was the son of Peter F. Warterfield and Susan Fraser (?) Warterfield. I guess Peter F. Warterfield was the son of Peter Warterfield, the revolutionary war soldier born in 1740. I just began researching my family history last week! Any information you have about the Warterfields and descendants would be appreciated.

William Tally Holt, son of Narcissus Dotson and Thomas Holt, married Mary Floyd Collins, sister to my gr gr grandfather, James Princeton "Tobe" Collins, buried in Dunn Cemetery, Marshall County, KY. .."William Tally had a sister Narcissus Holt who married Thomas Giles. This was in Marshall and Calloway Counties..." I only have names on this line. I see the discrepancy and after researching further, realize these are two Mary Polly Griffiths. I should have known with a name like Mary Polly that there would be more than one in the area. The Mary Polly that married Granville was probably daughter of Alexander Griffith and Rachel Hodge. My Polly (1799-VA) was possibly sister of Alexander, daughter of George Griffith and Nancy Byrd.

It is possible that my Thomas Gibson is brother of Granville. Here are notes lending themselves to that theory:
1) William and Thomas seem to be only Gibsons in Hopkins county near the time of his marriage (1817).

Wm Gibson, 160 acres on Drake Creek, Hopkins Co, Ky, 8/27/1819 - from Ky Land Grants, Book 26, Vol I, Part I, Chap IV Grants south of Green River.

Thomas and Polly married 10 Nov 1817, Hopkins Co, KY

On the 1820 Caldwell Co, Ky US census noted above, next door practically are family members of both Mary Polly Griffiths: George Griffith, Bird Griffith, Gipson Gray [married Rachel Hodge Griffith after Alexander Griffith died], and other Grays.
Further up the page, John Entrekin family. This latter was reportedly William and Nancy's co-in-laws - father-in-law to daughter Elizabeth Gibson,b 1807 (married Asa Entrekin).

So, is that about as clear as mud, or what? Maybe the 1820 Caldwell Co William is the William who died in Marshall Co, Ky 1825. If so, he lived for awhile in Tenn, according to places of birth for the children - up to 1816. Or could be he came directly to Marshall co after 1820. Then, there's a William Gibson in Butler Co, in 1810 which also could fit William of Caldwell Co-1820.
And then we have Cassie/Casey Gibson you mentioned and her possible connection to Cassandra Gibson, sister to the William of Onslow Co, NC.
If you see anything that connects to my Thomas Gibson, ca 1798-NC, please get in touch. Again, he is found most clearly in 1850 US Census, Graves Co, Ky. I have not found Thomas or Polly in the area after that date. Male children are: John (1818), Martin (1835), Thomas, Jr (1838) Female children: Jane (1823), Susan (1829), Rachael (1830), Elizabeth (1842). Related families: Whitis, Griffith. He was active member/Elder of Mt Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Graves Co as of 1834. 1820-Hopkins, 1830-Calloway, 1834, 1840 and 1850- Graves, Ky.

I had previously looked at Elijah Gibson, of Graves Co, Ky, as possible father to Thomas. I am now seriously questioning that. Although he also can be traced back to Onslow co, NC. Do you know anything about Elijah?

Replying to your 2005 post in 2009 - a little late! Found it while searching Gibsons in Graves Co, Ky and surrounding counties. I noticed your question about William Gibson of Marshall Co, Ky, and I have a theory about him. Perhaps you have already solved this by now and can straighten me out if I'm wrong. I've been looking at William as possible father of my Gibson ancestor,Thomas (Granville?) Gibson-1798-NC, and in the process found a William ca 1770? whose sister was Cassandra Gibson, b 1775. William and Cassandra and other siblings (John, Daniel, Lewy, Isaac) were from Onslow Co, NC, children of William (died 1814) and Mary Ann Gibson. Cassandra married John Tallman and settled in Ga or Ala, so she wouldn't be this Cassie, but your mention of the name stood out, and fits in with my theories that William and perhaps brothers came to Ky between 1810-1820. I suspect the Cassie who married Jesse Gatlin could be William's or one of his brother's daughter, named after their sister. A William Gibson is in Caldwell co, Ky 1820 census, then Wm connected with a land purchase in Hopkins co, Ky in 1819. William and Thomas are only Gibsons I find in that area, at one time part of Christian county. Thomas married in Hopkins Co, Ky, 1817, to Mary Polly Griffith, about the same time as Cassie married Jesse Gatlin in Christian county. [A little explanation about the name "Granville": Mary Polly's Griffith family records say she married "Granville Gibson," and marriage record, "Thomas Gibson," thus, Thomas (Granville?) Gibson.] Thomas is found later in Calloway Co, Ky in 1830, and Graves Co 1840 and 1850. My Gibson ancestor is Rachael Gibson, born 1830-prob Calloway, Ky and probably daughter of Thomas (Granville?) Gibson, ca 1798-NC,and Mary Polly Griffith. I don't know if these are related to your Gibsons. However, I suspect this is possibly the William who died later in Marshall Co, Ky 1825. Onslow co, NC, marriage record: William Gibson,Jr, married Nancy Ball, 14 Jan 1794. A head of the family, Nancy Gibson located in Calloway Co, in 1830, along with Thomas. I could go on, but this is getting long enough...

I have been searching for over 10 years for the ancestors of my ggg grandfather, James Mattox Gentry. I believe part of Calloway County was taken to make Hickman County so hope you might can find some info. Per the Hickman Co. Historical Society Mattox married Polly Nichols (Father M.G. Nichols) on 24 Jan 1830. His 2nd marriage was to Mary Carter on 13 Apr 1843. Both were in Hickman County. Mattox and Mary were living in Obion County,TN per 1850 census & subsequent census'. My gg grandfather was James Milton Gentry b. 8 Aug 1836 in KY d. 30 Aug 1888 Obion County.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Do you by chance have a copy of the pension records of his son James Green Waterfield and that of his wife Elizabeth Amanda Waterfield for James' service in the War of 1812 in Capt. James Dunington's Company of Wm. Armisted's Regiment of Cock's Brigade of the Virginia Militia? Do you know if James still has a headstone or if the cemetery still exists where he is buried in the Doores--Waterfield Cemetery in Calloway County?
