There was a John Davidson on the 1810 Caldwell Co. census (00100-10100-00).

There was an Alexander B. Davidson on the 1820 Caldwell Co. census.

There was a Young Davidson (from VA) and his son
Alexander Davidson (in a separate household) on the 1850 Barren County, VA census. Does anyone have info on these people? Thanks!

I am not familiar with the Davidsons in Caldwell and Barren counties of KY. I do have a Josiah Davidson, b.24 Aug 1802 in either Prince Edward Co. or Buckingham Co. VA. He married Susannah Hughes, daughter of John "Jack" Hughes and Edith Hughes (cousins). Josiah and Susannah were married 31 Dec 1824, PE Co or Buckingham. Appeared on the 1830 Smith County, TN census and lived there until about 1845 when they came to Crittenden County, KY. This Davidson family seems to have been very closely connected to the Powell and Stephen Hughes line. Need info for Josiah.

I am familiar with the Josiah Davidson of whom you speak. Unfortunately, I do not know if he was a member of the Davi(d)son family of Prince Edward Co., VA (PECo) or a member of the Davidson family of Buckingham Co., VA (versus some other family). I have a great deal of information on both of those families. A John Davison and his wife Ann Sons/Soanes headed the "PECo family," and apparent brothers Edward, David and William Davidson headed the "Buckingham family."

There was also an Alexander Davidson on the 1764 tithe list in Buckingham who does not APPEAR to have been related to the other Davidson family that was there (Edward, David and William Davidson were earlier in Goochland Co., VA, per the 1746 tithe list there, but Alexander never appeared in that county). Alexander Davidson moved from Buckingham to Bedford/Campbell Co., VA in the 1770s, and in the 1780s and 1790s, his family was one of at least three potentially unrelated Davidson families Campbell Co., VA. There was even a Stephen Davidson/Davison/Davisson back in Buckingham from at least 1808 (when he married Lucy Neighbours) until about 1824 (when he also moved to Campbell Co., VA) who does not APPEAR to have been related to any of the others in Buckingham (after this Stephen eventually moved to KY, the census there showed him as having been born in Georgia, and there is no known "Georgia connection" to ANY of the other Davidsons in Buckingham).

There was a Josiah Davi(d)son in the PECo family, as well as a Josiah Davidson in the Buckingham family. In addition, Reverend Samuel Davidson of Campbell/Appomattox Co., VA (apparently yet another unrelated Davidson/Davison family) also had a son named Josiah (married a Miss Moore). I have to assume that "your" Josiah Davidson was "blood related" to one of the above families, but your guess is a good as mine as to which one it was.

Note: An apparent desdendant of Reverend Samuel Davidson's overall Davidson/Davison family out of Bedford/Campbell Co., VA submitted his DNA, and he did not match the PECo family. We are still trying to find a male descendant of the Edward/David/William Davidson family in Buckingham who is willing to join the DNA testing program. Do you know any living Davidson males from "your" Josiah Davidson who might be willing to pay for a DNA test?

The Josiah Davidson in the Buckingham family (a son of the above-mentioned David Davidson) was shown on the 1850 census in "next-door" Appomattox Co., VA in his 80s. I have not been able to prove if he had any sons (his wife was supposedly a Rebecca Giles), but if he had a son named Josiah, such a son never appeared in any Buckingham records that I have ever seen (the 1869 courthouse fire, however, makes research in Buckingham a challenge, at best). So far, researchers of the PECo Davi(d)son family don't "claim" "your" Josiah Davidson, but that does not mean that he was definitely not from that family. Like most families, it seems, some branches of that PECo family have been researched much better than other branches.

If you ever determine the parents of "your" Josiah Davidson, please let me know (and I will do the same).

Correction. Reverend Samuel Davidson's son was Leroy, not Josiah (and he also had a son named John). That is what I get for trusting my memory. The PECo Davisons, as well as the Edward/David/William Davidson family in Buckingham DID have Josiah Davidsons, however, so I still think that "your" Josiah PROBABLY came from one of those two families. Sorry for my mistake.
