James and Celia were married on 16 Feb 1818, in Davidson Co TN. James Guess was the brother of my ancestor, Frances Guess who married Mason Morse. He was b. in Orange Co NC and this parents' line came out of Virginia. Celia was b. in TN and they were married in TN so he must have been traveling through. James and Celia died in KY. My McCain family came out of Virginia or NC and moved to Daviess Co KY and later Caldwell Co KY. The McCains and Guess' could have linked up in NC. The only Robert McCain I know of was born in KY in 1814 and his son is Robert A McCain. I know the siblings of John D. McCain b. 1801 NC but his father was also named John and b. in Ireland. He could have had a brother named Robert. I assume John would have been born 1770 or 1780.
