SESQUINTENNIAL EDITION:
"Kentucky's Historic Farms" describes the following: COY Farm, called TANDY FARM A&;B at COY Ridge, Paint Lick Creek, Madison (Green/Garrard)Co. Ky:
" TANDY FARM A&B. These two adjoining farms that border Paint Lick Creek are located on COY Ridge, one mile north of Roundhill in Madison Co. Ky, and are owned by Dr. & Mrs. Jame Coy Tandy III.
In the 1790's, Christopher Coy & his brother, David William COY both immigrated to Madison Co. Ky, after serving in the Revolutionary War.
Christopher COY ended up living on TANDY Farm A but the 90 acre tract of land wasn't purchased until his son, Samuel COY did so from Zachariah BURNETTE in 1803. Subsequently, Samuel COY purchased the 100 acre TANDY Farm B from John SCHOOLER in 1811.
Christopher COY was a good friend to ( the FOARE/FORD French Huguenot Family) and witness to Peter FORD's Will who also owned a farm on Paint Lick Creek.
PETER FORD had a daughter, Polly FORD, who at about age 8, was captured by the CHICKAMAUGA & SHAWNEE Indians at MCNITT's DEFEAT in Laurel Co. Ky in 1786. She was sold to the MIAMI INDIANS of Ohio.
MCNITT'S DEFEAT was the worst recorded massacre in Kentucky History. POLLY had a son by the MIAMI INDIAN CHIEF, "LITTLE TURTLE" & after eventually escaping after 17 years, she came to Madison Co. Ky with her Indian son to claim her part of her father's inheritance, which is today, part of the COY RIDGE properties.
She married a John PREWITT & her Indian son took the name John F. Prewitt & was called "Indian Jack". Indian Jack married Millie GREEN who was a sister to Polly GREEN that married Samuel's son, Tandy COY in 1827.
Samuel COY sold Tandy Farm A to Pascal BROADDUS (gggGrandmother to Polly GREEN's Brother) in 1828 & Tandy Farm B to Thomas BROADDUS, Pascal's older brother in 1827 & moved to Howard Co. Missouri. Samuels son, Tandy COY subsequently returned (came up Cinncinnati Branch of Paint Lick Creek in an ox cart "with everything I owned" & purchased Tandy Farm A&B from his Broaddus Cousins.
The original COY Cabin is still standing on the farm, but is in poor condition. The farm is still active ; productive today & descendants of Samuel & Tandy COY still live there.
I have a JPEG pic of the original farm...E mail me if you would like it....Sandie Mae
