Don Walton Sewell of Wilmington, NC died Monday, November 24, 2003, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. He was born on April 24, 1937, in Jackson, KY, the son of the late Shelt and Lula McClees Sewell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ollie James Sewell.
Don was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Sunday School Class teacher. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force where he worked in communications and spent time playing League Ball. After retiring from a career in retail sales for Sears and Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse, Don managed the Chick-Fil-A in Independence Mall. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, softball and other sports. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Well known for his outgoing personality, Don enjoyed all people and especially loved kids. He spent much of his retirement time participating in his grandchildren’s activities.
He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife Janice Sewell; one son, Frankie Sewell and wife Tricia; one daughter, Tonia Sewell LeCroy and husband Jim; and five grandchildren, Jill Sewell, Mark Sewell, Mackenzie LeCroy, Madison LeCroy, and Heather LeCroy. Funeral services were held Friday, November 28, 2003, at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church by Dr. Curtis “T” Christian IV. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
