Thanks for the information. I searched out the Jane Heralds and the only one that would meet the criteria to be Martin
Van Turner's mother is the Jane
Herald married to Thomas
Turner. I have always suspected that he was their son and a brother to Samuel Hige
Turner. I know he doesn't appear in a census with them but that doesn't mean anything. By the time the 1860 census came out he was already 16 years old and may not have been at home. He could have been omitted in a transcription. My mother said the Breathitt
Court House burnt and so did many of the records. Families tended to name their children after their parents and siblings. Martin's children were named after many of Thomas and Jane
Turners children. Not to mention Martin had a Thomas as well. The children of Martin and Jane I have are
Polly 1870 (my grandmother),James 1875,
Bud Harrison, married to
Lizzie Vires, 1877-1952, Manerva 1880,
Lindon B. 1885, Sarah 1887,
Mahala 1889, Samuel, married to Mary Alice
Mcintosh, 1883; plus they had a son named Thomas, I don't know when he was born, but his son was Martin
Turner as well and he lived with
Van and Jane until 1920. He was born in 1905 and married Sally
Turner d/o James
Turner and
Polly Mays.
Sam
Turner and Mary Alice
Mcintosh had a Martin
Turner as well. As for Jane, Martin's wife. I have to believe she was Jane
Bryant. We have to many Jane Heralds popping up. I can't find any outside of Jane
Herald married to Thomas
Turner that would fit the criteria to be Van's wife. Thanks for you time.
