I am also researching a Parson or Parsons name. My grandfather was named Joe Parson or Parsons. He was taken in by a family named Mcallister after something happened with his family. All he remembered was a fire then the orphanage. The McAllisters could not adopt him because his mother was still alive but he changed his name to J. P. McAllister. We have found one brother by the name of Cliff Parsons. This is the information I have now:
MCALLISTER, JOE
426-20-3707
Birth: 21 Sep 1914 Yalobusha County
Death: Mar 1976

Thanks,
Sarah McAllister Ott
I don't know if we can make a connection, but I had Riley family in Bracken County, KY. They were originally from Clermont and Brown County, OH. 1st generation is Jonathan; 2nd is Elijah; 3rd is Edward; 4th is Andrew; 5th is Robert. I believe that one of Edward's sons was in Lewis County.

Hi,

Please can anybody tell me about the STATEN family? Or the different spellings of the name. Where did the family come from. I keep running into the STATON family name? Is this just a different spelling?

My great grandmother Mary E.W. STATEN married my great grandfather Jacob Francis MATTINGLEY. I know some of the MATTINGLYs kept the e and others dropped the e. It depends on the spelling of the name.

Susan Miller

I realize your post was a bit ago but I am hoping to find our some info about Alonzo Estep. I have never seen a picture and my Great Grandpa Clarence Estep Sr (M: Mary Elizabeth Nickerson) never talked about him. I am told that he left GG Griffith with all the kids and I know she remarried a man named Fralix but I cannot find much at all on Grandpa Alonzo. I am the daughter of Clarence Estep, Jr. On another note, your not Cara and Cheryl's mom by any chance are you?

Re: Largent family

Well hmmmm
I am finding a Grafton High Largent in West Va
born 1897, died 1939 in Morgan WV

I am finding confusing census, birth records, marriage records
all related to race.
In the records I am finding Grafton showing as black, then mulatto, then white.
His mother, Amanda Elizabeth Haines Grafton Largent shows white throughout records.
Father of Grafton is showing as a George W.Largent born 1854 of Hampshire WV being white.

I find where Grafton was married early in life to one Lillie/Lillian, then showing one Hazel Va Spencer born 1899

I find where was in the miltary dying at age 39

Now, the delemia is that I am finding two Grafton H. Largent
both in WV, but one dying in WV, the other in Ohio

The earliest finding is in 1900 in Gore WV
Amanda E Haines age 31
Grafton H. Haines 3
Gerald R Haines 1

then in 1910 still in Gore WV
Amanda Largent 50
Grafton H. Haines 13
Gerald R Haines 11
H. Vance Haines 10

I did find a death record for
Amanda Haines Largent
born 3-18-1858, died 11-17-1945
age 87
father: Jacob Haines
mother: Barbara Fultz
spouse: George Largent

there are other records
so, I am first wondering why you listed Bracken KY
when the majority of records are for West Va

is your George black or white?
Not too often to find two names as Grafton showing up
dead at different times in different states
if you could simplify this, it would help if you have info.

Also with Amanda showing her sons as Haines, but finding a marriage record for 1880 to George Largent and she was a Haines, it gets confusing.

Hi. There appear to have been 2 Willis Kablers in the area around the same time, and I believe that your Willis married Rosa M Frederick, sister to my great grandfather, George. The Willis that I'm looking for is NOT the one that married Rosa Puccini, but was originally married to Catherine Phillips. Rosa Puccini's Willis was born in Bracken County, KY 8-1-1880, died in Kenton County, KY 7-19-1957. The one I'm looking for was born in Bracken County, KY 11-25-1851 to Frank Kabler and Nancy Mitchell and died 10-28-1931 in Augusta at the age of 79. I would love to know if you've ever found an obit for your great grandfather, Willis. I believe that Rosa's first marriage would have been around 1891, and I believe that Catherine didn't pass away until 1995. Thanks for your help!

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

DO you have DOB's + birthplaces for Thomas and Isabella
(Hooton) McDowell ????????????????

You will need to prove that either Thomas or a blood relative of Isabella's fought in the Revolutionary War.

I believe most of Richard Grigson's & Sarah Owings children (Grigsons, Watkins, Wilsons) are buried in the old Grigson Cemetery. I traced the cemetery to an old farm now on the site of the old Grigson property. There are a few stone fragments there, but not much help. The cemetery was on the deed to the property left by Richard to his children. The property was eventually purchased by Missouri Grigson Sanders ..dau. of Richard's son James. missouri sold the land to her son -in-law Peter DeLisle. The orig. land is owned today by several smaller farm owners. I started researching this line in 1966. I have the first SAR & DAR applications on Joshua Owings, MD, thru Richards wife ..Sarah Owings. Proof thru Richard also qualifies you for the First families of KY since they marr. before 1792 when KY reached statehood. Looking for VA info on Richard & parents. There was a Thos. & earlier Richard in VA. Also a John & Robt in MD. ???Tom Geimeier

This Thomas Madison I have born abt. 1790 in Virginia, married 12 Jan 1843 in Muscogee Co.Ga.to Mary Treadkill. I can't find out much on this either. Do you have Ginn-Threlkeld's children? Do you have Thomas Madison & Maria Whittington's children? They had 5. I do have their names & marriages. I also have his second marriage to Dorcas Newberry on Jan. 12, 1843. They had only 2 children together. Email me@hossnphat@cableone.net if you want this info. You probably already have it though?
