Debra, sorry for the delay in responding. Although it is conjecture, I do believe that a definite connection exists between James Buchanan of Fayette/Bourbon County, Kentucky and my Mary (Polly) Buchanan. First, the old notes I referred to have been correct in every instance where I have been able to find associated records. Second, it specifically names the brother as James Anderson Buchanan which could indicate an association with Pressley Anderson who (if the map of Strodes Station is correct)lived in an adjacent cabin to John Rice with Patrick Donaldson living on the other end. John Rice owned property in Fayette County, Kentucky prior to approx. 1790 and when this property was sold in 1808 to John Rice's son, Mary Polly Rice had to release her dowry. John Rice purchased land in Bourbon County in 1792 which was part of Mary Polly Rice's dowry when he died. John Rice and Mary Polly Buchanan had two children together: James Walker Rice (2/22/1804--5/11/1847) and Harvey W. Rice (5/28/1809--8/3/1871) in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Mary Polly Buchanan Rice (1867--6/3/1852) is in the 1850 census and is buried on the Rice family farm in Bourbon County, Kentucky. The 1850 Census indicates she was born in Virginia. Do you have any Walkers in the Buchanan family as the Rice family has no Walkers that I have found. John Rice had 7 children from a prior marriage--this wife is an enigma to date. It is believed from the birth of the two children to Mary Polly Rice that they were probable married around 1800 give or take a couple of years. I have other information but will leave that to later.
