Ann Goodpaster b. abt 1878
James K. Goodpaster abt 1880-1918

There may be others. This is not my line, so I haven't followed most of them past the 1880 census. The 3 males have death certificates available online through Ancestry.

Is this Benjamin Franklin Hasty (born 1830 Bath Co.) the same man who married Julia/Juliana ____________ and died by 1880 in Kansas, possibly in Franklin County, KS?

Benjamin and Julia (b. Nov 1831 IN) lived in Iowa in the 1850's and then moved to Kansas by 1863. By 1870 they were in Franklin Co., KS where Benjamin was a land owner and farmer.

The Benjamin Hasty I am searching for had at least 6 children born between 1855 and 1873. (it appears that Benjamin died between 1873 and 1880. His widow Julia married L.N. Thornbrugh 1886 in Franklin Co., KS)

Were his parents William Hasty and Mary Morgan Carter?

George W Carmichael married Louisa Henry, the 18 April 1876. He was 21 yrs old, born NC, and parents born NC, residence Menifee Co. Louisa Henry, 16 yrs old, residence Bath Co, born Bath Co, parents born Bath Co.

Not only was I able to get their marriage, but also where Louisa Henry's birth was recorded in early Bath Co births.
She was born 11 Dec 1859, Bath Co, father > Simpson Henry, mother > Margaret Sorrell

Marcella is survived by her husband of 49 years, Don; two sons, Don McKinney (Maritza) of Middletown, OH and Doug McKinney (Chris Taylor) of Middletown; three sisters, Brenda Swartz, Gail Stultz, and Jeanette Corson. Darrell Warner's site has Geoge W Carmichael married Lou E Sorrell. I found the death certificate for a daughter of George W Carmichael's and it listed her mother's surname as Sorrell.

When I got the death certificate of George W Carmichael's wife it gave yet another surname. Two other person's have still two other surnames for George W Carmichael's wife.

Now I have four different surnames for who George W Carmichael married.

Thank you. I have Menifee Co, marriages up to 1912, and some of George Carmichael's sibling were married in Menifee Co, but not George W.

I wounder if he could have married in Harrison Co?

I have search page by page 1880 Bath Co, census, George W is not listed, that I found. Nor is he listed in Bath Co in 1900 and 1910.

His daughter Emily J Carmichael married James Warner abt 1900. I am guessing Bath Co, Do you have any info on this?

puts George Carmichael among many others in Olympia in the mid 188o's "As residents with unlisted business connections". Also mentioned on that page is B.A.Carmichael.

Thanks for looking. George W Carmichael, has been a brick wall from 1870 - 1920. I have four differents surnames for his wife. I'm not ever sure of the number of children he had, as I cannot find him from 1870 until he shown up in Bethel, Bath Co, 1920.

Seeking Mason, Fleming, & Bath Co., KY TERHUNEs early-mid 1800s

First of all, Happy New Year to all Terhunes and their kin,

Barb Terhune here...some of you know me...some of you don't.

I've been contacted by a lady seeking to unscramble the Terhunes of Fleming, Mason and Bath Counties, KY. Her primary challenge is to identify the parents of:
Isaac Terhune, born circa 1813 with a wife named Frances and a son, Stephen born May 1845 in Fleming Co., KY. Isaac, a carpenter, and his family are found in the 1850,
1860 and 1870 censuses in Fleming Co., KY.

Isaac's son, Stephen was born in May 1845 and died 09 Feb 1921 (death certificate)
His wife is identified as Isabelle or Lucy Emmons.

It seems probable that said Isaac, father of Stephen, is a grandson of Albert Terhune (1733-c1816) and his wife Maria Selovar, who were married in New Jersey and migrated to KY before 1810. Albert and Maria had at least NINE known sons - so it is a rather daunting challenge to determine which of those nine might have sired Isaac Terhune.

Jim McGlothen, age 74, of Middletown, OH passed away December 5, 2008 at Liberty Retirement Community where he had been a patient for one month. He was born November 23, 1934 in Bath County, KY and lived in Middletown most of his life. He was a member of the Deer Run Camp Ground in Camden and the Sorg Bass Fishing Club. Jim loved to fish, camp, cook and most of all loved his family and friends. Fish Frys and having a good time with everyone was important to him. He was a leader, and above all, if you had a "need", Jim would see that you were taken care of at his cost. His Deer Run friends held a special place in his heart and to him were a necessary part of his campground bickering fun life. He loved life and it is difficult to let him go. He was employed in the shipping department at Sorg Paper Company for 43 years retiring in 1993. Preceding him in death were his parents, William H. and Emma (Griggs) McGlothen and a brother Mark McGlothen. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma; three children, Jim McGlothen, wife Connie of Monroe, OH, Nancy Sue Buchanan, husband Jim of Middletown, OH and Melva McFarland, husband Don of Middletown, OH; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Michael McGlothen, wife Phyllis of Middletown; two sisters, Betty Ginter, husband David of Middletown and Myrna Stacy of Middletown; several nieces and nephews and his close friends at Deer Run. OK, it has been a while since you posted, but they do still have a Toy reunion of the Bath/Nicholas County related Toys. (At least one branch of them)

It typically falls on father's day in June (or the Sunday just before or after). For the past several years it has been at the Fire House in Little Rock (Bourbon County) because it is a free location (there just aren't many left to attend and keep it going, so free is good).

Warren, just read your post. John & Elizabeth Small are my direct ancestors through my paternal grandfather's Small line. John's father was George Small of Bath Co., KY. Elizabeth's name was Hendricks but we have never found her parents. They migrated to Tipton Co., IN with most of George's sons. They are all buried in the Archibald Small cemetery in Ekin, Tipton Co., IN. Tamara Jarvis

See this book for detailed information on Draper Chipman:
John Howland of the Mayflower, Volume 3, by Elizabeth Peterson White.

Draper died in Fleming County, KY in 1830. In his will, dated 20 Sep 1830, he mentioned his wife, Polly (Amos).

Draper Jr. was born 20 Nov 1789.

Thanks for looking. I was looking yesterday at a book titled something like Kentuckians in Missouri, which indexes families that moved from different counties in KY to MO. From Bath County, KY there was no mention of this family.
However, since I wrote last I think I have found married names for the daughters and the mother's maiden name from a posting I did, so I know posting queries helps!

Thank you for your contribution to solving this mystery. I, too, have run across this Hedrick. Perhaps because there was no mother in the household James was indentured to the Kiethley family.

If she was born in KY, one would only need the Co, and a birth date to find her birth index. Ky birth records, should give her mother's given and surname before marriage.

I only have knowledge of her being in Michigan. Obituaries usually have info on family but I'm having a heck of a time finding her obituary, only articles on her horrible death. I don't know her birthday either. All I know is the day she died and that she was 24. It's even possible that I'm spelling McGowan wrong. Hopefully not but I'm not 100%. I'll keep looking. Thank you for your suggestions and wish me luck:)

I've found articles relating to the murder but I haven't been able to find her obit in order to see her parents names or any brothers or sisters she may have had. She was stabbed by the neighbor (15yrs old) on April 14th, 1959 in Flint, MI. She had 3 children (Pam, Terry and Richard) I've found articles but haven't had any luck finding her obituary. It looks like nearly every paper around that time printed something about it but I haven't really found any follow-up articles.

No...I think she had T.B. I know the children's names were Robert & Mattie. I have their birthdates. I have not been able to find a marriage record for Will Tom's second marriage to Arzelia Watson. I know it took place around 1905/06. They lived in Bath Co so I assume it took place there. Thank you, Patsy

Thank you for the info. Dora Angeline "Carrie" was his first wife. He then married her sister Arzelia, both were daus of James & Margaret Guy Watson.
I am looking for a marriage record for Arzelia & Will Tom. They probably married in Bath Co around 1905 or 06.

James W. Crouch, 93, passed away on May 6, 2008 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis, IN. He was born September 4, 1914 in Suddith, KY to Claude and Ida Crouch. He had 4 sisters, Martha Bashaw, Anna Mae Crouch, Ada Ross and Barbara Rhodes. Jim grew up farming in Kentucky, where he married his first wife, Beulah Donithan, with whom he had a daughter, Anna Ruth. Beulah passed away at a young age. Jim and his daughter then moved to Ohio, where Jim worked first for Mose Cohen Trucking and then for Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. He met and married Mona Maxine Rose in 1943, settled in Franklin, OH, and together they had 2 daughters Irene and Betty. Jim worked for the Frigidaire Division of General Motors in Dayton, OH for 30 years. In 1989, Jim and Mona moved to Berea, KY where she passed away in 1999 after 56 years of marriage. After his family, Jim's 3 greatest enjoyments were fishing, pitching horseshoes and bowling. Shortly after moving to Berea, Jim began to volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital several days a week. Not only would he man the hospitality desk, but he became fondly known as the "paper boy" because he delivered the local newspaper and outside mail to the patients. He also bowled annually for the Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser. Jim moved to Westminster Village North in Indianapolis in November 2007. Jim's family and friends will always remember first and foremost, his fabulous smile, which lit his entire face and made everyone else smile at the same time. Although Jim was often shy and quiet, he had a sense of humor that could burst forth at any given moment and when he laughed, he laughed from head to toe. He was the kindest, most caring, most loving and non-judgmental man who believed and instilled in his daughters that they could do anything in life they wanted and that he would always be there for them. Mrs. Crouch Dies At Salt Well
Mrs. Beulah Crouch, 21 years old, wife of James William Crouch, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Donathan, on Salt Well Wednesday, November 16.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sugar Grove church, conducted by the Rev. George C. Frey. Interment was in the Old Virginia graveyard.

James W. Crouch, 93, passed away on May 6, 2008 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis, IN. He was born September 4, 1914 in Suddith, KY to Claude and Ida CROUCH. He had 4 sisters, Martha Bashaw, Anna Mae CROUCH, Ada Ross and Barbara Rhodes. Jim grew up farming in Kentucky, where he married his first wife, Beulah Donithan, with whom he had a daughter, Anna Ruth. Beulah passed away at a young age. Jim and his daughter then moved to Ohio, where Jim worked first for Mose Cohen Trucking and then for Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. He met and married Mona Maxine Rose in 1943, settled in Franklin, OH, and together they had 2 daughters Irene and Betty. Jim worked for the Frigidaire Division of General Motors in Dayton, OH for 30 years. In 1989, Jim and Mona moved to Berea, KY where she passed away in 1999 after 56 years of marriage. After his family, Jim's 3 greatest enjoyments were fishing, pitching horseshoes and bowling. Shortly after moving to Berea, Jim began to volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital several days a week. Not only would he man the hospitality desk, but he became fondly known as the "paper boy" because he delivered the local newspaper and outside mail to the patients. He also bowled annually for the Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser. Jim moved to Westminster Village North in Indianapolis in November 2007. Jim's family and friends will always remember first and foremost, his fabulous smile, which lit his entire face and made everyone else smile at the same time. Although Jim was often shy and quiet, he had a sense of humor that could burst forth at any given moment and when he laughed, he laughed from head to toe. He was the kindest, most caring, most loving and non-judgmental man who believed and instilled in his daughters that they could do anything in life they wanted and that he would always be there for them. Jim is survived by his 3 daughters, Anna Ruth Henderson of Russellville, OH, Dr.Irene Minor-McCallum (Stephen) of Indianapolis, IN and Betty A. Boison of Rorschach, Switzerland; 3 grandsons, Harold Keith Henderson of Warsaw, IN, James Kevin Henderson of Cincinnati, OH, and Jason T. Minor of Austin, TX; 2 great grandchildren, Bryan Henderson and Ashley Henderson of Russellville, OH; and 1 sister, Barbara Rhodes (Dorsey) of Kokomo, IN. Visitation will be at Davis and Powell Funeral Home, 616 Chestnut Street, Berea, KY 40403 on May 11, 2008 from 4-6pm. 11944 has come up with one possible. A Benj arrived in Philadelphia on the Ohio on 1 Nov 1883, est birth 1843.
I understand the 1890 census was lost so finding him is going to be difficult from here.

There is a record of Mary A. Treeby age 56 b. England emigrated in 1919, Widow and living at Ft. Monroe, Elizabeth City County Virginia, with her sister and her husband, Walter Rainey age 40 who emigrated in 1908,
Sister is Clara or Claira age 36 also born in England.

Dora Angeline Watson who married Will Tom in 1889 died about Sept.22 1905 age about 20 leaving two kids. The Owingsville Outlook says in the Jan 25th Ed. that Mrs John Watson who's obit ran last week died leaving 5 Children one of which is Mrs W.T. Hawkins. I did not find a record of that marriage!
But it would have been bwt. Sept 22 05 and the middle of January 1906

I was inquiring in hopes I'd find some of Ebenezer Rothwell's descendants. I wanted to find out where he was buried so a Sons of the Confederate Soldiers member could come and place a government marker on his grave in honor of his service.

Since my inquiry here on the Message Board I have found a Ronnie Rothwell at Olympia, Ky in Bath County who had several Rothwell Family descendants already researched. Then I found where Ebenezer deeded his land to a cousin Effie Collier who lived on Dog Trot in exchange for taking care of him until he died. This Deed was made in 1909 and by 1910 he had died as he no longer was on the 1910 Census.

I found where Effie lived and what cemetery she probably buried him in. She was the daughter of Solomon Rothwell. A stone has been ordered so it will be placed soon I suspect.

But in case you have other info giving Ebenezer's exact date of death and place of burial then please let me know. The stone already ordered will say he died in 1909 and will be placed in the Lewis Cemetery on Dog Trot Road in Menifee County.

I am not related to the Rothwell's but I'm just helping the man in Hazard, Ky find Ebenezer's grave. So really I don't need any info on the Rothwell sisters anymore. But do pass on anything about Ebenezer. Even a picture?

Thank you so very very much for the news about where Samuel Royce is buried. I'm not related but a lady named Jeanette Goodpaster of Day Road in Bath County asked me to please try and locate his grave. He was her great grandfather. Isabelle Royce Knox (a daughter to Samuel) was her grandmother. This news plus the wonderful pictures are going to just be great for Jeanette.

The last I found on Roberta, Sam's wife, was when she lived in the Wyoming area of Bath County with her children both in 1870 and 1880. Nothing found on her after that. In 1870 she was listed as Roberta Rice in Bath and in 1880 she was lsited as Roberta Reise on the Federal Census record.

Roberta's parents were (which you may already have) Robert and JoAnn Vice Bailey. I don't know when Robert died but I found where JoaAnn died Sept. 9, 1882 and is buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery at Bethel, Ky in Bath County. She was born in Bath County on Feb. 22, 1807.

JoAnn's parents were Joseph Mourning Vice and Mary Polly Bracken.

Hopefully some of my info is new to you as yours was to me. Thanks again!!

Thank you. Some of this information is new to me; some of it refers to a different George Stivers.

Lorenah Baker's death certificate gives her mother as Mary but Mary (maiden name Baker)was actually her step-mother: Lorenah's mother was Nancy C. Stivers. Her parents married in 1856 and the George W. Stivers and Mary A. Stivers who married in 1853 were a different couple, not her parents.

Likewise the George W. Stivers who died in 1911 was not her father: her father George W. Stivers was born 22 August 1831 and died in Kenton County 21 April 1913.

There are a lot of George Stivers in Henry County and confusion is easy!

Seeking information on the Mynhier familys of Bath County. If any one could possable tell me where Yale in Bath Co. is I would appreciate it. It seems a good number of them lived there at one time.
I am trying to make a connection to my ggrandfather JOHN MYNHIER that passed away 5 May 1898 on the farm of N. C. Ratliff that he was renting. Doctors operated on him at home for lock bowel but were unsucessful. He left bhind a 3 year old son Russell and 9 month old Daughter Mary and wife Betty.
He had two brothers I know of. First one was Marion Mynhier who married Lucy Sallee of Pomeroyton & eventuly moved to Ohio. The other brother was Edward Mynear, he passed away in 1965, lived in Carlisle and is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Nicholas County.
He was the son of Frank & Servania Mynhier. Frank passed away in 1887. I believe they may be decendents of Dave Mynhier and Cassandra Brown. Any help with this line would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what I have here is correct but in April of 1990 I visited Bath County to research the Staton family -- my grandmother was Pauline Mae Staton born in Salt Lick, Bath County.

I spoke to a daughter of Lillie Mae Staton who gave me some information on her mother's family. She gave me Edmond rather than Edward. The mother's name as Mattie, but she might have been the first wife. He was the son of David Staton and Martha Karr -- Here are the children she gave me, added to what I could find on census and birth records.

Harold Robert Vice, Age 85, passed away 2/11/08 at the Dayton VA Hospice from pancreatic cancer. Harold was born 02/07/23 in Sharpsburg, KY to the late Cliff and Minnie Vice. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Virgil and William, and 1 son, David Michael. He is survived by his wife Hazel (Keates); 1 son, Marvin (Jennifer), and daughters Sharon (Mike) Hoefer, and Tia McGee; 9 grandchildren, Donald (April) Vice, Adam (Trina) Vice, David Michael, Faith, Heather and Kelly Vice, Tanya (Jeff) Munn, Tiffany (Paul) Miller, and Nicholas Vice; 8 great grandchildren, Tyler and Avah Vice, Taylor Vice, Kyle, Megan and Luke Munn, and Emma and Natalie Miller. Also survived by brothers Brooks, Cliff, Charles, Bobby, and Jimmy, and sisters Mary Wolfe, Thelma Hawkins, and Helen (Bob) Shigley and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was a veteran of the army serving in WWII where he met his wife Hazel while stationed in Staffordshire England. He worked for the Dayton Steel Foundry after coming to Dayton from Kentucky. Harold has donated his body to Wright State University. A memorial celebration will be held 2/15/08 at 1:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church on 20 W. First Street, Dayton OH. Contributions may be made in Harold's memory to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Dayton VA Hospice and Staff for all the help and kindness during Harold's illness.

I noticed that on the 1910 census, when she is living with her son-in-law John Myers, her estimated birth year is shown as abt 1831. Based on that, the following may be your Ellen on the 1860 census with a misspelled surname. I wasn't able to find her on any other census years.

I finally located all of the rest of my genealogy books. In looking at Mr Richards book the only thing he has is a 3 age introduction where he thanks individuals for helping him.

One paragraph indicates his thanks to Paul I. Lewis editor of the Bath County News Outlook. He dose not list dates but just the different names for the paper. He dose state if covers 90 years extending back to February 1869.

I don't know exactly but Salt Well Creek, Salt Well School, and Salt Well Road are located in the eastern part of Bath County. Almost exactly east of Kindall Springs, north of Stepstone. Almost to the boundry of Montgomery County.

I could not find the location of the cemetery on the old map I have.

I have a copy of the book but I have just moved and it is not unpacked yet.

Is there anything specific you would like to know. The book dose not have an index so it is sometimes hard to find items in the book.

I've seen where there is a Roberts Smoot cemetery in Bath Co. It says that it is on Bell Rice farm - off US 60 West. The KY Historical society has a listing for some of the graves there. It is by no means a complete list. I've included the web address so you can check it out.

All I found is something that says it is located at Ann Dawson Roberts Farm - Kendall Springs. It does list the Kentucky Historical Society as the oranization that submitted the info. They may be able to give you specifics. Their number is 502-564-1792. You may also want to contact the Bath Co. Library. They're pretty helpful. You may want to also contact a funeral home. There is Richardson Funeral Home that should be familiar with that area. They are in Owingsville. Their number is (606) 674-2922. Good luck with your search.

I found the cemetery listed at TopoZone.com. They give the coordinates of 38.1993°N, 83.7240°W. If you go to Google Maps and put in these coordinates, it will show you where it is. It is between Wyoming Rd (the 111) and Anderson Rd. Let me know if you have trouble getting the map.

She was a homemaker, lifelong member of Towne Blvd. Church of God and sang in the choir for 45 years and also was a member of Helping Hands. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur McCarty Sr. in 1980; son, Wilbur McCarty Jr.; daughter, Peggy J. Berry; brother, Fred Hollan; sister, Clara Benson. Verna is survived by sons, Fred (Lynda) McCarty of West Palm Beach, Florida and Lonnie R. (Donna) McCarty of Hamilton, Ohio; daughters, Jan Akers of Loveland, Ohio and Joy (George) Husman of Chesterfield, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Towne Blvd. Church of God. Celebration of Life services will be Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 11:00AM at Towne Blvd. Church of God with Pastor Frank Curtis officiating. Interment will be at North Monroe Cemetery. I found my own name listed with the wrong birthday, as well as 2 of my siblings with wrong information given about spouses. The older information is great though. I had received a photocopy of the pages related to Moses Sharp, but they did not include any introductory pages which explain where he got the info that went into the book. My posting takes passages from the book and asks anyone who might know the source for any statement to post it.

If the book was taken from old newspapers, the next move would be to identify and locate the papers and to see if I can find the issue(s) which pertain to Moses and to other Sharp family members.

Even if no sources can be found, knowing the earliest date that certain claims were made helps narrow the possible source of a family legend.

When the book re-surfaces, it would help if you could check to see what Mr. Richards said about how he put the book together.

What is the history/background on the book by John A. Richards, published in 1961, on the history of Bath County?

When was it written? Where did the information come from? Did his research papers survive? Although he was connected to Arizona, he appears to have been a resident of Owingsville at the time of his death 15 Jan 1975 at the age of 73.

Specific question posted:

A biography of Moses Sharp is printed in John Adair Richards, A HISTORY OF BATH COUNTY, KENTUCKY, [Yuma, Arizona: Southwest Printers [apparently for the author] (1961), p 529.]

"Moses Sharp was born in 1757, his mother being a daughter of Lord Darby for whom the Kentucky Derby was named."

[What is the earliest reference which can be found to this claim, and what is the full citation to that reference?]

"His father and his brother John served in the Revolutionary War, during the course of which his brother lost his life."

[An application for a pension filed by his widow states the particulars of his service and states also that his brother John died in the first two years of the war. That application makes no mention of Moses's father.]

"At the age of nineteen he also entered the service in which he served three years, being honorably discharged at Valley Forge by General Charles Scott. He was a relative of Captain Thomas Sharp of King's Mountain fame."

[The pension application states that Moses enlisted in 1776 and it is known that he was born in 1757, so the age of 19 is correct. The application makes no mention of General Scott or Valley Forge, but states that Moses "was in the Army in different companys nearly the whole time of the Revolution or at least until after Cornwallis was taken Prisoner." Reference is made to a discharge by "his Captain Charles Allen."]

"He emigrated to Kentucky around 1780 and in 1783 married Elizabeth Walker of Littleton Parish, Cumberland County, Virginia."

[The marriage is recorded in the pension application and includes the first person statements of Elizabeth Sharp, formerly Elizabeth Walker. The timing of the move to Kentucky is doubtful. Cornwallis surrendered in October 1781 and his wife said he was in military service at least until then (and makes reference to documents from his service). Moses also appears in the personal property tax roles in Cumberland county, VA, in 1786 and 1787.]

"When he first came to Kentucky he served as a spy for Colonel Daniel Boone."

[No evidence has been found to support this.]

Would like to see any evidence (which does NOT include WFT or other online databases, the IGI, Ancestry File or other such compilations) that supports any of the claims made in the biography -- especially any which pre-date the 1961 publication of Richards's book.

I have posted some of the information, if not all of the information. She did not get a pension so there wasn't much in the file. I think her name is shown as Etie Riddle. I have been doing research on that line for a few years and I have a lot of info on the Civil war service of a lot of them that I have pulled from the National Archives. I am the granddaughter of Gen Andrew J. Goodpaster, who was the fourth of that name. His gggrandfather was Michael Goodpaster.

Don't be overly reactive about one piece of evidence consider that this info on the death cert. was not given by the son but by someone else and who knows even if the son himself knew for sure about his fathers birth. Also consider the time span...how long after James's birth was this data given? If you insist on proving or disproving this data then you are most likely going to spend some time in the Fleming County Court House!

James Bracken was taxed $ 2.00 in 1811 (a rather hefty amount

In or around October 1811 the court paid Zebulum $ 4.50

This cemetery they said was located on the Carpenter Farm at Salt Well on top of the hill beyond 2 ponds. Do you know exactly where this is located?

Here is what I know about Michael Carpenter. He was the son of Michael and Sarah "Sally" Jones Carpenter. On the 1900 Bath County Ky Census Michael it says was born Sept. 1842 and he is single. He lives with two of his single sisters. They were Hettie Carpenter born March 1844 and Cynthia Carpenter born November 1846. All of these siblings as well as their parents are buried in the Carpenter Cemetery located near the community of Salt Well south of Owingsville in Bath County Ky. Michael was a confederate soldier and he died in Bath County Ky April 27, 1911. I don't have his military record but here is the email address of a man who does. faronsparkman@windstream.net
Faron Sparkman is who asked me to find Michael's gravesite so he could come and place a free military stone at his grave. Faron is not related but he goes all over the state setting civil war stones for confederate vets. A lady in Bath County who records Bath burials for the local library said this cemetery is extremely difficult to get to and is not attended to. It is overgrown with briars etc. To find more info on the Carpenter's I'd get on the Ancestry site and type in Michael's name and birth year and see if anyone else is researching this family who you could get with and find out more.

Was married in Russellville in 1856 to Sarah M. Durham (born in this county June 17, 1837) daughter of Jacob and Hannah Durham. She died June 21, 1869. Married again Jan 22, 1862 to Louise J (born June 17, 1837) daughter of James and Margaret Allen, natives of Ky had twochildren by this union - Allie O, born Feb 23, 1863 and Frank Clay born Jan 6, 1875. Mr. Evans' parents were early settlers of this county and did their share toward its development. His father died Sept 22, 1878 mother March 23, 1867. Both were members of the M.E. Church for about 60 years. A rather curious circumstance connected with the family is that for four generations previous to this the!

He married Sept 2, 1852 a year after coming to this county Amanda, daughter of William and Mary Ann Aldridge by whom he had one child, who died in infancy. His wife dying June 10, 1856 he was again married April 2, 1857 to Lucinda MItchell who bore him one child, it also dy8ing in infancy. Mrs. Glover is the daughte rof Simon and Mahala Henkle and was born Aug 20, 1848; her father was born in Roanoke Co VA Spet 17, 1802; settled in this county 1827 and died March 9, 1877; was a devoted Christian and member of the Christian Church since June 25, 1856; his wife died Jan 8, 1858; his father settle din this county about 1827.

This copy came from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. If you go to www.worldcat.org and search for the title you will see libraries that have a copy. I requested it through King County Library System which is my local library. If you have not used interlibrary loan before it can be very helpful. Basically your local library arranges for the loan. I checked this book out from them the same as any other. I hope this is useful.

Thank you for looking. John B. and James were brothers of my ancestor William Warren.

John M. Warren and Mary Reed were their parents. John B. and William were married to Mary and Elizabeth Kincaid, daughters of Abigail Hirons and Thomas Kincaid. Abigail Hirons' mother was Abigail Unk, widow of Matthew Bracken and Samuel Hirons.

I found a short bio for Joseph Williams, I don't know where because I neglected to copy a citation. I have wondered if Joseph was any relation to Samuel Williams m Sabina Stuart in Augusta Co, VA. Her brother John Stuart had some sort of legal custody of Matthew Bracken's estate in VA. Matthew was James Bracken's father.

I haven't found a family connection between the Williams, Cantralls and Brackens.

I also found some info on Joshua Cantrall. Again, no citation since they are not a part of my known family. Joshua Cantrall b8-8-1748 PA, d9-9-1800 Montgomery Co, KY, m8-18-1772 Ann Graham in Botetourt Co, VA. Ann was b5-3-1751 in Augusta Co, VA and d2-9-1819 in Bath Co, KY. Their son Zeb married Sarah McCollam in 1797, son Joshua m Rachel McCollam.

Did you find the records at the court house, or are they available in book or microfilm form?

I descend from Abigail Hirons, half-sister of James Bracken. I would like to look at the records prior to 1830 for entries for Abigail Hirons Sr, Thomas Kincaid, John and William Warren, William Purvis and Rebecca Gillespie Hawkins.

Would you please see what you can find on JOhn J Brown, I have seen 2 different death dates, 7-30-1904 Elliott Co Ky and also the date 1911-1916. He was born 9-4-1836 Morgan Co Ky if that helps. Wife's name Catherine Virgiana Donahue.

James Payne b.abt. 1810 married unkown and they had these

children: Martha b.abt. 1837 , David b.abt. 1841 , James

b.abt. 1844 , Mary b.abt 1845, Sarah b.abt. 1847. James

married Sarah Eldridge b.abt. 1818 in 1853.

In the 1860 census Sarah Payne 65 is James Payne's mother and Sarah Payne in her 40's his wife.

I haven't much more information.

Do you have information you are willing to share on this James Payne?

Hello, I hope you are still out there since it's been almost four years since your post. I think the James Harrison Traylor you are looking for is the the James who is a brother of my grandfather who was also a son of Phillip Traylor and Susan Purvis. I found your James Harrison Traylor death certificate down in Warren County, Ohio just last month and I also found the birth report for him as reported by Susan and Phillip in Pendleton County Kentucky.
