"ILLNESS FATAL TO MR. C. H. HATCHETT
'Well-Known Attorney Passes Away Follong Long Sickness
"Death came to Mr. Clarence H. Hatchett, one of our leading attorneys, Monday night at 8 o'clock, after a long and lingering illness.
"Mr. Hatchett was born and reared near Hiseville, and in early manhood was appointed Deputy Sheriff. At the conclusion of his term, he was elected Sheriff, at the age of 26 years, and served four years. It was during this term that the law was changed, which provided a sheriff could not succeed himself, and so at the conclusion of his term he studied law and entered active practice, which he kept up until a few months ago, when the condition of his health forbade his further activity and he retired to await the end.
"Mr. Hatchett first married Miss Mansfield, who died childless. His second marriage was to Miss Harlow of the Greenplot country, and to this union the following children survive: Prof. Terry L. Hatchett of Louisville, Messrs. Earl and Paul Hatchett and Mr Hardin Hatchett of California. His third marriage was to Miss McCandless of this place, who survives him.
"His surviving brothers and sisters are: Messrs. Tom Hatchett of Bearwallow, Mr. Edwin Hatchett of Hiseville, Mrs. Charles Hatcher of Smiths Grove.
"Mr. Hatchett was a deacon in the Baptist church for many years, and was Treasurer of Barren County for 32 years. He was an enthusiastic worker, and what he had to do he did with all his might.
"He was a leader of the Democratic party in the county, and active ints councils, but did not seek office. For a time he was County Judge pro tem, during the illness of Judge Bohannon, but aside from this, he confined himself strictly to the practice of law, and financial matters.
"He had accumulated considerable fortune and was considered one of the most successful business men of the county.
"Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church yesterday afternoon, the sermon being preached by Rev. J. A. Gaines, his pastor, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Glasgow cemetery."
