I have seen yhe name Edward Uriah Sullivan mentioned on the Internet. I have no idea where the name "Edward" came from. On census' it is always listed as Uriah. G.W. Sullivan, is probably George W. Sullivan, born 1855 in Missouri to Elijah and Nancy. On the 1880 census, Elijah had a son listed as Jamie (b. 1873) and another named James (b. 1877). Apparently "Jamie" was your John Dan Sullivan.

Per the Internet's World Connect Project, another researcher listed Eijah as Elisha Sullivan, wife Sarah Ellen Goins and daughter Ollie as Orlinda Mary Sullivan. She died 1901. She had married Curry Richard Busckingham.

Sarah Goins parents (per 1860 census of Graves Co.) were John (b. 1821) and Jane (b. about 1830) Goins. They had 8 children, including Sarah (b. 1844) and Susan (b. 1858).

Myself, I grew up in E.St.Louis, Ill. and about 20 years moved from northern Illinois (near Chicago) to Ky. I now live in Paducah, located about 20-25 miles north of Mayfield. I rarely have gone to Mayfield and dont know much about it.. I browse the Internet -- many names, many locations- trying to find some inquiries that maybe I can help. Bob Eddings.

Seeking information on John William Hilton and his wife Virginia Elizabeth (Ware) Hilton. This couple is listed in the 1880 U.S. Census for Ballard County, along with other family members: Andrew, Claud, Lillie Belle, Ingraham and the Ingrahams (sister and brother-in-law). I can account for the children and the Ingrahams after 1880, but can find no more information on John William and Virginia Elizabeth Hilton. Did they die after the 1880 census? Move on? Where are they buried? My grandfather, Thomas Marshall Hilton, was born in 1885 and is listed with his father's sister, Martha E.(Hilton) Graham and her family, in Ballard County KY in 1900.

I am looking for my gggrandmother. She is a widow in the 1920 Census for Blandville, Ballard Co. living with her daughter and son-in-law, James A. Bailey and Minnie Bailey. Her name is listed as Mary Stahl born in KY about 1860. In the 1930 Census of Dist.5, Ballard Co., she is listed as America Stahl and still living with her daughter and son-in-law. They are now listed as James N. and Minnie Baily.
I would like to know who she was married to and what her parents names were.

And just think, everything you just said was exactly what the researcher told me. The only difference is the MO Elijah. Your post refers to an Elijah that moved to MO then to Ballard. This Elijah married a Sarah. Those two had four children. One of those (John Dan) is my gg grandfather. The researcher informed me that Sarah is probably a Goins. Your post mentions that you think that Uriah is Elijah's father.
Is Uriah the same person as Edward Uriah? I found a G.W. Sullivan buried at the Mt.Zion cemetery when I was there this past summer. I will check the dates to see how they compare. Could this G.W. Sullivan be one of Elijah's son's? You haven't confused me yet, but keep trying! I have been looking for any info on this line of Sullivan's for a long, long time. It's been a pleasure. Are you from or living in Ballard?

I have still been looking for the parents of your Elijah Sullivan. I dont know the answer for sure, but here is my "guess", based on some facts and my interpretations.

JOhn Sullivan and Edward Uriah Sullivan were brothers and their parents were Jeremiah and Nancy Humphries Sullivan. Uriah married Martha Campbell 1819 in Williamson Co., Tenn. John married Cynthia Gibson circa 1820-25. (I dont know where or when). Circa 1833-34 both brothers moved to Graves Co., Ky.

On the 1860 census an Elijah Sullivan (born 1822) lived next door to John Sullivan. Elijah's wife was Mary, who I estimate he married circa 1843, probably in Graves Co. It seems all of their children were born in Graves Co. Since John and Elijah lived next door, I am guessing that John was Elijah's father. (This isnot your Elijah).

Here is where the guesswork comes in. Your Elijah, born circa 1825, apparently moved to Missouri sometime between 1834-1853. About 1854 ne married "Nancy" , probably in Mo. They had 2 children born in Mo. -- George W. (b. 1855) and Ellen (b. 1859). Then about 1862 they moved to Ballard Co. and had 2 more children -- James M. (b. 1863) and Daisy (??- b. 1867). I dont know what happened to these children and wife Nancy, but circa 1872 Elijah married Sarah Goins. I feel his father was Uriah.

The one item that can change my whole idea on this , is that your Elijah said his mother was born in Georgia. The only female in this picture who was born in Georgia, was Cynthia Gibson.

I am sure this whole discussion thoroughly confuses you , but maybe it gives you some more ideas about this family.
yes I'm aware of the two Elijah's. No you haven't confused me.
The one thing that is hard to figure out is the headstone that I took a picture of located at the Mt.Zion cemetery just outside of Mayfield. The headstone was that of Elijah Sullivan, born on April 16, 1823. I couldn't dig down far enough to get to the death date. I need to do that but since I live in Kansas City, Mo, it's going to be a while before I get back to Ky. If you check out the 1830 census you will see a number for males in each age group. The listed number for Uriah will work if you include another male (Elijah maybe?). I don't know but will check out the library for more info. I hired a researcher that can only tell me that Elijah's father is either Edward Uriah or John.

Regarding Elijah Sullivan, there seems to have been 2 Elijah Sullivans in Graves or Ballard Co. at the same time. One was born circa 1822 and the other circa 1824-25. The one born circa 1824 said he was born in Tn,, his father in S.C. and his mother in Georgia.(These states may have been incorrectly stated by Elijah on the 1880 census). On the 1850 census of Graves Co. was an Elijah Sullivan, age 28, (born in Tn,)wife Mary 24,(b. in Ky), Cynthia age 6, Francis(a girl - age 5). Uriah Sullivan was born in N.C. and wife was Martha, also born in N.C. It seems your Elijah was the one born circa 1824-25. Do I have you now confused? I dont feel Uriah is the father because of the states he and wife Martha were born in. Good Luck in your search. Bob Eddings, no relation.

I have located them in the 1880 census. I can't find anything about them after 1880. My questions are:
1. Who are Elijah's parents. I visited Mayfield this past summer and located an Elijah Sullivan headstone in the Mt. Zion cemetery (several Sullivan's buried there). The birth date was on the stone was 1823. I couldn't dig down deep enough to find the death date (not sure there is one). Would like to know if this is the same Elijah. The records that I have point to Edward Uriah Sullivan as being his father. I am trying to verify this though.
2. What happen to Sarah Goins Sullivan after 1880?

The children they had were John Dan(not Daniel), Cynthia, Jim and Ollie Mae. I have info on all but Cynthia.
Any, Any, Any, Any help would be appreciated. I plan to go back to Mayfield and visit the library to see if I can find anything but, what a lot of reading to do.

However, if you go to the court house of Ballard County, (I can't think of the town name but it is along the Mississippi river) - when we were there the Genealogical & Historical Society was located in the basement. I got photos of the house and information about the family that lived there. They had a good deal of information.

I know your posting was placed in 1999, but, we're looking at the Andrew Lovelace, Jr. home in Ballard County that's up for sale. I'm enjoying researching the historical background of the home and wondered if I could get a copy of the letter that you mention in your posting?

I am looking for information on my Great Grandmother Dora Cleaborn Pickett. She was the second wife of my Great Grandfather William Dempsey Bulls, and mother to my Grandfather Howard Lessie Bulls. I believe GGma was born in Hastings Nebraska about 1876 or 1877. She died in 1969 in Lamb County Texas. A cousin of mine found a 1900 census that recorded her family residing in Moore Oklahoma. It also lists her father as being William Pickett born in Missouri, and her mother Mary W. (?) who was born in Kentucky. Two siblings where also mentioned, Leroy G. Pickett and Etna Pickett.

I would like to know Mary W.'s maiden name and who her parents where. I also would like to know who William Pickett's parents where.
Hi,
I am also researching the African-American Brooks family
of Ballard County, Kentucky. I am descended from Minor
Brooks(b.1871). He was Frank Brooks'(b.1868) brother. I
think his son Herman(Howard?) Brooks(b.1903) in St. Clair
County, IL. is my Grandfather. He married Viola Freeman
(b.1906) in Illinois in 1921. I know little about her
except that she is descended from Richmond Freeman
(b.1794)in Virginia. Their son(my Father) Delois Brooks
(b.1928) in East St. Louis, IL. is also a mystery to
me. Any help would be appreciated.

God Bless,
KennyB

The Heath line I'm referring to, started with Ryland Heath, in KY. He married Anna M Gilbert in 1804 in Greene County, GA. They were living in Livingston County sometime after the was of 1812.

Their Children;

William D Heath, born 1809 in GA, died in Ballard Co., KY
(my line) he married Eliza Husbands, daughter of Harmon Husbands and Sarah Renshaw.

Ira Heath, born in 1810, Green Co., GA

BMG Heath, aka Sam, born in 1812, Green Co., GA, He married Narcissa Williams.

Robert Heath, born 1815, Livingston Co., KY, married Arcadia Baker

Harrison Heath, born 1817, Livingston Co., KY, married Mariah Berry Hughes. Lived in TN

John Heath, born abt 1823, Livingston Co, KY

Enoch Heath, MD, born in 1832, Livingston Co, KY, married Anna Hughes, lived in Gleason, TN

Daughters;

Emily Melissa Heath, married William Newcom

Nancy Heath, born abt 1821, Livingston Co., KY. Married A B Rankin.

I know I'm forgetting someone.

My Daughter was recently diagnosed with Hereditary Neuropathy. There are varying degrees of the disease, and varying sub or phenotypes, ranging from no symptoms, to severe.

The symptoms are, starts, usually in the hands and feet, with numbness, tingling and sometimes severe pain, depending on which subtype. the pins and needles progress slowly, usually, in my case, the progression has been upward from my feet, now consumes my whole body with constant tingling. I don't have pain, and mine is mostly sensory. My Mother, daughter of William Jackson Heath, born in Graves Co., KY in Sept 1887, died in 1991, her's was severe, sensory and motor, also affecting her breathing. My Daughter, 44 yrs is closer to what my Mom had.

It also has a hold on one Aunt, my Brother, my Niece, my Son. My Mom was the first known case in our family.

The variation in onset is from infants, first decade to 8th decade. Research is on going, knowing the cause and gene of some of the subtypes.

Awareness and educating yourself are key. There isn't any treatment yet, except treating the symptoms. I have 5 Granddaughters, ranging in age from 23 down to 14, all need to be checked.

Jolene

Dear Barbara,

Yes, the cemetery is associated with the church. The entrance to the cemetery is behind the church and has a old gate covering the entrance.

I was unable to actually get to the cemetery.I talked to a lady who owns the property adjacent to the church. She told me that the path beyond the gate was about 200-300 feet and that the cemetery had about 150-200 headstones - most of them in disrepair.

The reason that I could not get to the cemetery is that the path is overgrown with heavy thickets and brush; further, the path has been blocked by fallen trees created by the January 2009 ice storm.

It would take an herculean effort to clear the path. It is rather sad knowing that the cemetery is encapsulated and even more sad that the cemetery would have to be cleared once reaching it.

Unfortunately, the state of the Cane Creek Cemetery is not isolated in nature.

I live in Ohio but do travel to that region in May or June or each year to place flowers on some of my ancestors graves. I will try to see the condition of the cemtery next year but I do not hold out hope for its improvement.

Sincerely,

Lark

In the Ballard County Kentucky Cemeteries, Volume V, published by the Ballard-Carlise Historical-Genealogical Society, there is, indeed, a listing for a McCauley. In the section titled, "Unmarked Graves or Graves Not Located" of the Old Blandville Cemetery, there is a listing for James McCauley, born February, 1780 and died February 9, 1859. There may be others but this is the only one I found listed.
Hopes this helps. Lark

Did you ever get the directions to the Cane Creek Cemetery? I have a letter written in 1961 that mentions Cane Creek Baptist cemetery in/near Wickliffe. Do you think these 2 cemeteries are one and the same? Do you know if the cemetery is part of the church's burial ground/property?

I have Fowler great grandparents buried there, and possibly Kemp, Cook, Frazier, Arrington, Cosby, Rollins/Rollings, Adams and Evans family names. If you haven't gone back, will you be doing that in the future? And if so, would you be willing to take pictures of headstones if I provide you names, and of course fees involved in processing/shipping or whatever is involved?

Thanks so much. The names in it are Caleb and Lydia Cummins, Nancy McGraw, Alberto, and Nora Cummins, and Augustus and Sarah Cummins. These are direct Ancestors of mine. I was just in Kentucky and attempted to look for it, but was unable to find anyone that knew where it was. I'm asking for any information or anybody who may have spotted this cemetery on private property. It was said to be the on the John Curtis farm. I doubt that I will get back down there anytime soon, but, I hope to find someone who may have seen it and could photograph it. Thanks

Phyllis

I am also a direct relative of the Taylor/Ransdell union. My gggrandparents are Ferd Taylor & Cora Effie Ransdell. John William "Will" Taylor was Ferd Taylor's older brother and Cora Effie Ransdell was Fannie Ransdell's younger sister. Two brothers married to two sisters. The parents of John William & Ferd were: John William Taylor & Myra Beck. They had five children: John "Will", Lulu, Mary, Ferdinando "Ferd" and Maude. I know at least the two brothers migrated to AZ. My grandmother (Madge C.Taylor O'Dell) and my mother (Sharon L. O'Dell Hunt Lara) still live there (Tempe, AZ). My mother went to school in Tempe 1955-1959. My mother and I have been trying for quite some time to research the Taylor/Ransdell side of the family. I would love to share info. You can contact me at jami@patrickracingbillet.com
