John McGaughey b. 1821 Ky. d. 1873 Ill. told his son before he died that the family had originally come to Ky from Virginia on the St., James River (sic.- James River?). Then came to Indiana from Christian Co., Ky. {An Arthur McGaughey enlisted in the military at Christian Co. Ky. and died in 1850s in Putnam Co., In.}, John said he had some sisters and still had a brother named James back in Ky (c. 1872). John's brother, Daniel, died from a mule kick to the groin in the Civil War. His widow in her pension application said under oath that Daniel had been born in Shelby Co., Ky c. 1813. Census show that there was an older Daniel McG. living in Shelby County at that time/ he never appears in Census again but Alfred Thacker(Roseanna's husband) of Anderson Co., Ky shows an elderly man living in his household in 1830. [ the Daniel that was in Anderson Co., Ky on 1830 was Arthur's son. Can you give me some help; because Ancestry experts are saying Daniel of Anderson Co., is my direct ancestor.Sincerely, L. Scott McGaughey
