To all whom this concerns...

I came accross HUNDREDS of family papers dating as far back as the late 1700's today buried in a Grandmother's closet.

Just one of these papers has the following information:

The Stone's came from Bedford County, VA to Adair County KY in 1815

Grandfather Patterson's father was Joseph Stone
Grandfather Patterson was John W. Patterson, he married Jane Ramsey and they were the parents of Martha Jane Stone.

The Patterson's were related to the Stotts, Criels, Walkers and Ramsey's.

The Stones were related to the Tate's and Lee's (as in General Lee) of Virginia.

John Stone and Miss Stith had a son
this son's name is Moses Stone and he married Nancy Whittere
Mr. and Mrs. Moses Stone had a Son William Alexander Stone who married Martha Jane Patterson

William A. Stone and the Patterson's came from KY to Illinois in 1830

Sorry for the rough translation at this time. But we spent a better half of a day just sorting through just half of one of 3 boxes of VERY OLD papers. And this was by far the smallest box. There will be much more to come in the future.

Brenda,

We have searched through our records that we have with us right now, and we cannot find any record of any of these Stone's. (Elizabeth Frances, Noah Stone or Admira Stone)

I am thinking they are related to our Stone's some how, but I don't know how yet.

This is what we have that roots in Adair County:

**John Stone
b. ??
d. ??
m. W Stith (sp?)

had a Son (only one we know for sure)
**Moses Stone
b. ??
d. ??
m. Nancy Whitten

had a Son (only one we know for sure)
**William Alexander Stone
b. October 20, 1809 in Botetourt County VA
d. February 03, 1903 OR Jan 22 1897
(we found on a legal document stating that he died 02/03/1903, but someone else says that he died 01/22/1897. We plan on going to his gravesite to see for sure)
m. Martha Jane Patterson
b. November 15, 1814

W.A. Stone & M.J. Patterson had NINE kids:

1.Caleb Tate Stone
b. January 28, 1835

This may very well be a part of the Patterson family that I am tracing. They moved from Sangamon county, IL to Lee county, Iowa about 1837. ( part of the Black Hawk purchase). I have much history of the family but obviously have gaps and holes that need filled in. Please contact me at PATT6906@alltel.net.

This is an old post, but jut in case any one reads this, Moses Stone (married Nancy Whitten) was the son of Micajah Stone not John. I don't doubt that some people in Illinois thought that the relationship was different as Moses and Nancy died shortly after coming to Illinois leaving an extended family who were then cared for by William A Stone as well as other family members living in the area. This could easily lead to confusion as to the Stone lineage. The Stiths were related to the Stones - but not as reported here.

In my message dated December 28,200l I said that
Joseph Patterson b. 1779 might be the son of William
Patterson, I think that has been proven wrong but I still
don't know who his father was and it is 2008!! Realizing
this is an old "post" I am wondering if the gentleman
got through all those boxes and found anything pertaining
to Joseph who was born in Pa. 3/19/1779 and who married
a Sarah Stephens b. 1791 also from Pa. My email has
changed from "dogwalker" to ywatkin@cox.net
Thanks much,

This is very exciting news for me! I have been researching the Stott's family for about a year now. My Great Great Grandfather was Joseph Patterson Stotts. He married my Great Great Grandmother Mary Virginia Grove. I am trying to locate where they are buried and when he died. I have her information as she lived with her daughter, my Great Grandmother (Mary Gertrude Stotts Shotwell) in Greybull, Wyoming when she died. I would love to share family information if you are willing!
