Ballard Co.
David
Harp was born on May 1, 1813 in
Fayette County,
Ky. He was a son of
Conrad and Catherine (
Bower)
Harp. The parents were probably natives of
Kentucky, but of
Dutch descent. Subject was reared on a farm and resided in
Fayette County until 1860, when he came to the
Purchase and settled in
Hickman County, near
Columbus. There he resided a short time and then came to
Ballard County, and settled on the farm of about 160 acres, now occupied by his widow, with about 80 acres in cultivation. There he resided until his death July 19, 1881. Mr
Harp was married on November 14, 1837 to Miss Nancy Stone, a daughter of Jacob and Patsy (
Carson) Stone. The father was probably a native of
Maryland and came to
Kentucky in a very early day. Mrs. Harp was born in
Fayette County on May 23, 1817, and bore her husband twelve children, of whom ten are now living, viz: Ellen, wife of Samuel Todd, of
Hickman County; Henry, in Mt. Eden, Ky.; J.W.; Nancy J., wife of John Curtsinger; Charles C.; Elizabeth, wife of Lee Summers;
Addie, wife of James
Wells of
Hickman County; Maggie; Jacob and Mamie, wife of Samuel
Wilson. At present, Mrs. Harp, assisted be her son, is carrying on the home farm. She and her family are members of the Christian Church."
