DOUGLAS
MERIWETHER was born August 25, 1842, in
Carroll County, Miss., and in 1858 removed to
Ballard County,
Ky., where he remained until 1861,when he enlisted in Company C, Seventh
Kentucky Mounted Infantry, and continued in the service until the end of the war. His father, Robert E. Meriwether, was a native of
Todd County, and died in
Ballard County,
Ky.,1860, aged about fifty years. He was the son of Douglas, Sr., who was born in
Albemarle County, Va., and died in
Carroll County, Miss. Douglas,Sr., was the son of Nicholas
MERIWETHER, also a native of Albermarle [sic] County, Va. Robert E.'s wife was Susan H., daughter of Maj. . and Margaret N. (Meriwether)
Terrell, of
Ballard County,
Ky., and their union was blessed with offspring, as follows: Thomas J., subject, Robert E., Margaret N. (Davis), Mary E. (Bacon), and
Mayo C. Subject's educational advantages were good, having been educated at select schools. On the 8th of October, 1867, he was married to Miss Carrie C., daughter of Rev. John D. and
Nannie M. (Meriwether)
Furguson, of
Todd County,
Ky. ,who was born December 16, 1848, and to them have been born: Robert E. ,January 1, 1870; Lucy E., January 23, 1871;
Nannie M., August 21, 1872;and Margaret D., June 29, 1881. Mr. Meriwether is a farmer by profession, having 320 acres of valuable and productive land, in an excellent state of cultivation. He is a member of the
Knights of
Honor, and his wife is a worthy member of the Reformer's Church.
