I know that what I have is just the beginning of something close to whom you may be looking for, My grandfather is the G grandson of jacob kessinger and they all lived in Kentucky, but he was also in Chichigo for a while, He was orphaned as a young person and left to raise himself with the Laird family. I know that his mother married a Laird, after she had my grandfather out of wedlock. I cannot tie any of the loose ends to this story though, any help would be helpful, and I would love to see the picture of the kessingers you have. Thanks so much I am trying to do this for peace of mind/

My great grandfather was Leander McGrew (married to Nancy Price, who we have been told was half Cherokee. If anyone has info on this, please let us know as the family would like verification), son of Peter Bruner McGrew, son of Andrew Jackson McGrew (I think)...so it sounds as we come from the same line. I'm new at this and this is about as far as I have gotten, and now I'm going to start looking for and requesting birth, baptism and death certificates.

Family story says William McCauley came to Hardin Co. abt 2840 from Ireland. His attorney was a Haden. John McCauley, with wife Rachel, sons William and Daniel arrived about 1848. John died 31 Dec 1848 about six weeks after arriving. He is buried in St. James Cemetery. William died in 1852 and is buried at St. James. On the other side of John is a Samuel McCauley who is a teen. Would like to know his relationship if any. Rachel remarried a Siebman and moved to Barren Co abt 1854. He was a carriage Maker in Hardin Co. Would like to contact anyone who might have some info on these families. The family Bible says Rachel, Daniel and William (young) were born in Antrim Ireland. Do not know if this was the County or the town.
Archibald and his four sons moved from Green County, Kentucky, to Gasconade County, Missouri, beginning in 1828.

I would very much like to know more about your book and how I could get a copy.

I am trying to help a fellow Wyomingite to find his Kentucky ancestors. He believes he descends from Polly Shacklett (d/o John Shacklett and Barbara Quick Shacklett).
Polly m/1 Thomas Mills in Fayette Co., PA. He died, but not before fathering three children: John Shacklett Mills, Thomas H. Mills and Benjamin Mills. Benjamin Mills m. Harriet B. Lucas on 12 Sept 1833 in Meade County,KY Harriet believed to be d/o Abraham Lucas and Mary Evans. Benjamin Mills appears on Meade Co. Tax lists for Meade County from 1824 through 1835. He has no land, and no deeds are recorded for him. No will is recorded for him. In 1850 LaRue County, Ky census Harriett Mills, age 40 appears in #198 household with two children, Mary A. Mills, aged 16 and Abram Mills, aged 14. It is believed that this family lived for a while in LaClede Co., Missouri, and eventually ended up in Wyoming Territory by 1874 and descendants live today in Ten Sleep, Washakie Co., Wyom. Are there Shacklett or Fulton descendants of Polly Shacklett Mills Fulton who might shed some light on this family? Mary "Polly" Shacklett Mills Fulton m/2 Daniel Fulton and they lived in Meade County, Hill Grove, KY and had 8 children, b. between 1804 and 1822.

Thanks for writing back and Interesting. I actually have Padgett's in two lines on my family tree (one maternal and one paternal). The paternal line is traced back to 1600s in England. That line came into Maryland first, then Kentucky and settled in Hardin and Meade Counties. I have an ancestor named George Washington Padgett, b. April 2, 1825, d. Mar 20, 1880 in Meade County. My ancestor George Washington Padgett was married to a Mary Jane Amanda Mitchell. Those Padgett's did not live in Colesburg from what I understand.

The second, maternal line of Padgett's is the ones I'm trying to learn more about who were living in Colesburg. My ancestor Sarah Ann Padgett, b. abt 1824, d. abt 1882, is the one I'm seeking more information about. I know she was married to a Henry Smith and they had a daughter named Martha Elizabeth Smith (my 2nd great grandmother). I don't know much more.

The other names you mention in your note don't ring a bell.

Somedays I just have to shut this down. It go's in circle's. My mom is 93 and her maiden name was Padgett, so some of the stuff she can help me with other's not so much. Seems they came from Indiana, moved to Kentucky and then into South East Missouri. Mom's dad was Chares Dewey Padgett (his mom was not married when he was born) his mother was Allie Viola Pagett her parents were George Washington Padgett and Susan Catherine Burnett. Their is a book about G.W.Padgett it's called A Robberty on the Iron Mountain Railroad. by Joe Hipp. We grew up hearing stories about bank robberies and being Indian, just thought my grandpa was windy. But it appears that is true. Still searching for their land allotment. Found one yesterday shows a George Padgett with a Dawnes #. And found more family on 1890 Oklahoma Territory census. I'm sure we're related but just how not sure. Families had so many children. I have a Sarah Ann Padgett but it shows she was from Indian and have not worked on it very long. If you live in that area, the church is a great source for that information.
Anyway, locals know more than anyone about these things.
A descendant of William Harrison Dowell (1855-1925) wrote that he was buried on the Jake Cart farm in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Yet, this same person wrote that Jacob S. Cart (1809-1891) was buried in Union Star Cemetery, not the Jake Cart farm.

Just following up on some info I came across for Elizabeth BRYAN/O'BRYAN/O'BRIEN: Sister of Charles:

LORETTO ANNALS OF THE CENTURY BY Anna C. Minogue
NEW YORK THE AMERICA PRESS Copyright, 1912 BY The America Press

Most of the earliest members of the Loretto Society were from families of English descent, who had emigrated from Maryland and Virginia. Celtic names, however, were not wanting, as we find Miss Elizabeth O'Brien among those clothed in the novice's garb, November 27, 1819. She pronounced her vows the following year and proved an efficient and devoted religious until her death at Bethlehem, Kentucky, June 30, 1842. Bishop Flaget esteemed her highly, when during her superiorship, 1832, he wrote of the favor- able impression she had made : "Mother Sabina, it appears, has won all hearts ; she has filled them with holy joy. The neighbors of Bethlehem are enchanted with her manners." To make oneself so acceptable to others in a position of authority, when poverty and complicated trials are the daily portion of the superior, indicate no ordinary degree of vir- tue, therefore we justly ascribe to Mother Sabina a strength of character blended with gentle bearing, which go far to make a perfect ruler. Mother Sabina was the fifth Mother Superior of the Society, governing from 1826 to 1832.

Page 102

For thirty-eight years Loretto had found in Bishop Flaget a kind and loving father. His letters to superiors and others breathed forth his paternal love for the Society which was the first to spring up in the virgin soil of his prolific See; and his many acts of benevolence, coming as they did from one so truly of God, proved his high regard for it and its accomplishments. He kept it in his heart, treasured it as the priceless gift of Father Nerinckx, dying, had bequeathed to him and to his successors forever. "Loretto, my dear Loretto," he calls it in his letters, and again, writing to Mother Sabina O'Brien, on New Year's Day, 1829 : "I open all my episcopal treasures to pour them with both hands on you first, and on all your dear daughters and mine, without exception and without distinction. I truly and sincerely love them all in God and for God, and recommend myself and my diocese earnestly to their fervent prayers."

Page 208

Are you still looking for information on your relatives in the Boonesborough area of Kentucky? I have a copy of names that were listed in minutes of church records that go all the way back to the 1700's. There are many names entered and perhaps your family is on it. I'll be happy to check. Let me know what names you are looking for. My husband's family attending the Providence church when it was on the creek and eventually it was relocated on a hillside.

Sharon Dykes

Hi, Am researching my family lines of Joseph L Burch, Stephen F Durbin, Francis R O'Bryan and Cordelia Greenwell and Margaret Brown from the Rhodelia, Payneville and Mooleyville areas. They were members of St. Theresa's Church and and many are buried there. I am happy to exchange information. Many thanks for reading my query. Linda
