She was still in the hospital a couple of days later when the paper reported Mr. Johnson had died of his injuries. (The wreck was Johnson's fault; he failed to stop at an intersection and hit another car. The other driver was okay).

I did the look up for you in the Colby (Kansas) Free Press-Tribune. The paper did an article with photographs about the accident and their injuries after he was involved in a two-car accident 8 miles east of Colby while en route with his wife to California. No obituary appeared.

Good luck with your search.

Kim Baker
Topeka, KS

I believe his first name was Hugh, but am not sure. I have no info on what happened to him.
He would have had at least 2 children-Patrick, my grandfather, and Annie, both born in Ireland. Somehow Patrick and Annie ended up in Illinois, in the Rock Island County area. Patrick married Margaret Buckley in 1888. They had 2 children, Hugh and Anna, before both parents died in the 1890's. Anna married John Edward Coleman and had a son, Edward.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is not an obituary as such. This book is a collection of stories written by descendants (an update is in the works). Under the story for Thomas Jefferson Taylor (page 175), this information is given on Etta (this story was written by a granddaughter):
Tom (Taylor) was united in marriage [in Frankfort, Marshall co. KS] to Etta Louise Davison 27 Sept 1882. Etta was born in Seneca Falls NY 23 May 1862. The first 20 years of her married life was spent in Marshall Co [Kansas]. In early life she was united with the Methodist Church but later united with the Presbyterian Church. To this union 2 sons were born, Robert W, born 28 July 1885 and Thomas Lee, 10 April 1895. Both boys were born in Frankfort [Marshall co. Kansas]. She took great pride in her home and garden and was amazed how much water the flowers required. She was a beautiful seamstress and sewed for family and friends many times without pay. She was the kind of person that her neighbors look to for guidance in time of trouble and need. Before leaving Marshall Co. they gave land on a farm for a school house.
In 1903 Tom and Etta moved to Colby [Thomas co Ks] and farmed ground in the vicinity of town. However, he was better known as the proprietor and operator of Taylor's Livery and Feed Barn, long the headquarters of farmers coming to Colby with team and wagon. Such an enterprise was then more important than the modern garage. The Livery and Feed Barn was destroyed by a tornado 23 May 1915. In late 1916 they moved to Northern AR because of Etta's ailing health where they lived for 2 years and then moved back to Manhattan [Riley co. KS]. She had wanted to see her youngest son who came home from his war services in France, and this desire was granted as both her sons were permitted to be with her before her death which came 18 June 1919 in Manhattan. [the story continues with Tom moving back to Colby where he died and is buried].

An obituary might be found in Manhattan, Riley co. KS where she died. I believe they have a very active Historical/Genealogy Society.

Hope this helps.
Mary Shackelton
gshackelton@yahoo.com

I have discovered an original autobiography by Roy Day Plott, b. Nov. 7th, 1889. It's typewritten document of 102 pages. He was Arvilla Anderson's aka "Villa Senora's" younger brother and is mentioned along with his father, Clement Virgil Plott b. July 11th, 1863. We're scanning it into a digital file, and will try to turn it into a document soon.

Frances (Francis) Jennings, daughter of John and Grace Eslick Francis, was a sister of my gr-grandmother, Matilda Francis who married William Painter and came to LaFayette County, Wis. in 1853. I have the info on the Jennings/Williams family that was published in the Rexford kansas Centenniel book in 1988, but have had no contact with a family member. I would appreciate any information you would wish to share. I have extensive information on the siblings of Frances Francis Jennings.
There are still Oxnams in the Dodgeville, Wis. area, one of whom married my first cousin (both now deceased).
Marion Howard

George H. Williams was my grandfather, Ivan L Williams was my father. George was married to Birdie Call, and they lived in Rexford until their deaths. My parents had moved away when they were putting in the Atlas base's near Salina, KS, they then moved to FL and eventually moved to Southern Calif., retiring in Northern California. I came out here to Southern California after I got out of the Army, and worked 37 years in aerospace, now retired. Has really been great getting in touch with you. Hard trying to track down some of this family background. Take care.

I have considerable information on Josephine Ethel Shults/Shultz, including two family pictures, one approx 1884 and one approx 1909. Her parents are Oliver S. Shultz(b 1-4-1842, d 1-31-1910) and Sarah Mariah Rodgers Shultz(b 3-14-1846, d 4-3-1847). Oliver had been a Finney County Commisioner. Sarah and her three eldest daughters died of some illness in Thomas County Kansas in 1886-1887. Three of them are buried in Fairview Cemetery. My husband's great grandmother is Josie's younger sister, Estella. Please contact me @ finescomp@aol.com and I will mail you what I have. If you live in the Garden City, Kansas area maybe you can share some research with me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Ann

They originally settled in Smith Center area where the remainder of their children were born, including my maternal grandfather, Marion Francis Logan (1887-1979)

From Smith Center the family moved to Mingo, KS and lived there between 1890 until Mollie's death in AUG1894, when Frank moved with his children into Colby.

With the exception of my grandfather and his brothers Robert and Oren "Jack" Logan, the daughters of Frank and Mollie's married into other families who had settled in Thomas County during the same period between 1880 through 1890.

We would like to hear from anyone who may be related to our LOGAN clan as well as the following Thomas County, Kansas families: BELL, DEAN, PARROTT.

We have been searching for any information about our G-Grandparents James Franklin "Frank" & Mary Harrison "Mollie" OLIVER LOGAN. Their son, Marion Francis LOGAN (1887-1979) was our maternal grandfather, born in Smith County KS. He married our grandmother, Merle E. Griffith (1894-1962)on AUG 28, 1919 in Iowa.

Despite all of our efforts over the years, we cannot find any information about this side of our family. We find this odd because Grandfather Franks elder brother D.E. Logan was the owner and editor of the COLBY FREE PRESS between 1885/86 and 1897.

Both Frank and D.E. Logan are listed by the Kansas State Genealogical & Historical Societies as "Original Pioneers of Thomas County".

Our GG-Grandfather James Alexander LOGAN (1825-1898: KY>KS) is also listed as amoung the "Original Pioneers of Thomas County", along with other families who inter-married with our LOGAN's. Amoung them are Charles V. PARROTT and Frank DEAN, both of GEM, KS and Robert BELL of GEM, later Selden, KS.

Charles V. PARROTT married our G-Aunt Jessie Gay LOGAN @1898 and had only one child, Hilda Parrott who never married. Jessie was Frank and Mollie LOGAN'as eldest surviving child born in Des Moines ,IA in 1878 and died in COLBY, KS in February 1980.

Any help with researching our Kansas family members would be appreciated.

I am interested in the Jennings family. Frances (Jennings) Williams mother, Frances (Francis) Jennings, husb James Jennings, was a sister of my gr-grandmother, Matilda (Francis) Painter, husb Wm. The Jennings, Painter, and another sister, Jerusha (Francis) Harris families came from Gwennap, Cornwall to LaFayette County Wisconsin in 1853. Their widowed mother, Grace (Eslick) Francis, came with them. Their two brothers were already in Mineral Point. James & Frances Jennings moved from Wis. to Kansas in late 1800's. I think Frederick Oxnam williams came from Wisconsin also.

Re: Colby Clark Mystery - Born in Colby, Thomas County, Kansas 1888

I see that this post was from 2001, and I'm wondering if you've been able to solve the mystery since then. I'm the granddaughter of Colby, son of Colby and Geneva. The information I was given was "Enoch Clark" and "Jane Grant Clark" for Colby Sr.'s parents. I was also given a date of 1905 for their wedding. I can't go any further than that in my research. The trail seems to go cold, so your info is intriguing.

I'm curious about 8 children. I'm almost positive that there are 6 children. The only one I hadn't met was Reta, who died before I was born. Perhaps the number 8 includes the infant boys who passed? My grandfather was the only son who lived.

Something that might throw a wrench in your theory is Minnie Crabtree. She's supposed to be Colby Clark's sister. According to her obituary, she was born in NB, Canada in 1883, the daughter of Enoch Clark and Jane Grant Clark, and lived in Dover-Foxcroft, ME all her life.

Curious to know how we might be able to help each other.
