Maxine R. "Mikie" Batterton ate 78 of Johnson, Kansas died September 24, 1999 at the Stanton county Hospital, Johnson. She was born april 30, 1921 in Mutual, Oklahoma the daughter of Leslie George Wheeler and Lilian Ruth (Henderson) Freeman.
She was a longtime Manter and Johnson, Kansas resident. She worked at the Manter Post Office for 27 years, sold Avon for 20 years and was a homemaker.
She married Bernard Kilgore on January 2, 1938 at Johnson, Kansas, he preceded her in death in 1981. She then married Russell Batterton on April 29, 1986 at Manter. She is survived by her husband Russell Batterton of Johnson; three daughters, Darlene Davis and husband Ronnie of Holly, Colorado; Patty Bernhardt and husband Richard of Okeene, Oklahoma; and Lois Smith and husband Mike of Johnson; four sisters Lorene Chenoweth and Edna Chenoweth both of Springfield, Colorado; Yvonne Olson of Hasty, Colorado; Gail Walters of Ulysses, Kansas; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial was held on Tuesday, September 29, 1999, at the Manter United Church, Manter, Kansas.
